Eli Nilsen grew up in Stavanger, Norway and after pursuing Media Studies at University of Bergen went to Chicago to study Film and Television at Columbia College. It was at Columbia she fell in love with editing and decided to apply to the editing program at the American Film Institute, where her love for editing got firmly cemented by mentors Farrel Levy and Howard Smith. In 1998 she received A Women in Film Scholarship and after graduation continued her editing education by working at the Roger Corman "Film School". She received her first big break editing NYPD Blue and from there on she spent the next 7 years editing The Closer. She also took some time off to go to Norway where she edited two feature films, including Morten Tyldum's directorial debut film BUDDY as well as the pilot episode of the series FRIKJENT (Acquitted). Her latest venture has been working on the musical drama Empire and the comedy Get Shorty. Eli is fluent in Norwegian and English. She is member of local 700 and ACE.
