Michael Novotny is a photographer, painter and production designer. He has worked in features, and television for close to four decades. Between projects he enjoys fly fishing rivers in remote locations as well as painting in oil and watercolors.
While in high school in 1965 he traveled to Jackson Mississippi to work for the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party by canvasing for voter registration and protesting civil rights violations.
He attended Goddard College, Allegheny College, and the University of Pittsburgh. In 1971 he landed in Cornwall, UK to help establish Footsbarn Theater as a regional theater which is currently based in France and tours world wide. Novotny was designing large scale sculptures used in several Footsbarn productions.
After four years touring Cornwall with company written plays he left to join Friends Roadshow
as a designer, director, and performer touring extensively throughout Western Europe, North Africa, Scandinavia, and the USA.
His initial film work in Los Angeles was as a sculptor and visual effects model maker with extensive experience in blue and green screen composites using motion control systems and foreground miniature techniques.
