A topical historical drama depicting the creation of IVF; a paranoid thriller series starring Colman Domingo; a bracingly original crime musical, and awards contender, from Jacques Audiard; the second part of the final season of Cobra Kai; and a reverential big-screen adaptation of a Pulitzer-winning August Wilson play are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in November.
On Nov. 7, action and mystery drama Outer Banks returns to Netflix. The first half of season four ended with several cliff-hangers for the Pogues, many of which should be resolved, to some degree, in the second half of the season. Over on Kildare Island, Rudy Pankow’s JJ probably gets the biggest bomb dropped on him when he learns that he’s not the son of his alcoholic and abusive father, Luke. The cast have promised “craziness” so expect some more jaw-dropping revelations.

Colman Domingo plays a media pundit who stumbles on a murder he fears he’s being framed for in the trailer for The Madness, the upcoming conspiracy thriller from Netflix, that dropped on Monday.
“I got a bull’s eye on my back,” a paranoid Domingo, in the role of Muncie Daniels, says at one point in the fast-paced teaser after he visits a murder scene deep in the woods of the Poconos and finds he’s the only witness to a crime.
As the walls close in and he fears a set-up to make him take the fall, Daniels strives to reconnect with his estranged family — and his lost ideals — in order to clear his name. The eight-episode thriller, with the Emmy winner in the starring role, is set to bow on Netflix Nov. 28.
The ensemble cast for The Madness includes Marsha Stephanie Blake, Gabrielle Graham, John Ortiz, Tamsin Topolski and Thaddeus J.

As Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo heads toward his second consecutive Best Actor Oscar nomination, the “Sing Sing” star will likely dominate the holiday season Netflix charts with “The Madness.” The drama series with a juicy premise debuted its first teaser on Monday, one month before its streaming debut.
Domingo, an Oscar nominee this year for Netflix’s “Rustin” and an expected contender in 2025 for the A24 prison drama, stars as Mncie Daniels on the series “a political consultant-turned-tv pundit who may have lost his way in life.”
But wanderlust is the least of Muncie’s issues, as the Netflix plot description reveals: “While on a work sabbatical in the Poconos to write the great American novel, Muncie finds himself the only witness to the murder of a well-known white supremacist, and now he’s being framed for the crime. John Wick’s Creator Set to Deliver Highly Anticipated Sequel to ‘Nobody’ ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Back in 2021, Nobody was a huge hit; honestly, nobody saw that coming! Made on a modest $16 million budget, it raked in almost $60 million at the box office. It followed in the footsteps of John Wick, which surprised everyone in 2014 by becoming a cultural phenomenon. Fun fact: Derek Kolstad wrote both films’ scripts.
Since Nobody’s success, we have eagerly awaited the sequel, and the wait is nearly over. ‘Nobody 2’ is on the way, but Derek Kolstad didn’t write it alone this time. He received help from Aaron Rabin, Umair Aleem, and, of course, the star himself, Bob Odenkirk—who has showcased his acting abilities not only in Nobody but also through his outstanding roles in ‘Breaking Bad’ and its spin-off, Better Call Saul.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episode 10 of Apple TV+’s Bad Monkey.
Season 1 of Bill Lawrence’s Apple TV+ crime series Bad Monkey, based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel, wrapped its run with a jam-packed finale that saw the demise of three main characters. Gracie, aka the Dragon Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith), died at the hands of Eve (Meredith Hagner), who also pushed her wheelchair-bound husband Nick (Rob Delaney) into the ocean. As the show continued to weave magic into reality, the Dragon Queen’s dying wish to Eve, “I hope you choke … on your lies,” basically came true as Eve choked on a baby carrot and then was pulled by an invisible force to the edge as she jumped off a building to her death after escaping to Portugal.

THR reports that John Ortiz, best known for his roles in Fast & Furious, American Gangster, Kong: Skull Island, Mayans Mc, and many others, has joined the cast of Nobody 2, which is currently in production in Winnipeg.
The sequel will see Bob Odenkirk return as Hutch Mansell, the mild-manner family man who keeps his past as a government assassin under wraps. Connie Nielsen is also returning as Hutch’s wife, Becca, as well as Christopher Lloyd as Hutch’s father, a retired FBI agent. It was announced earlier this year that Sharon Stone would be playing the main villain of the sequel. Colin Hanks is also onboard as a “corrupt sheriff with none-too-nice ambitions.” It’s not yet known who John Ortiz will play in Nobody 2, but I always love seeing him pop up in projects.

What’s summer without a breezy, paradise-set murder-mystery? Enter Bad Monkey, an adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s bestselling cult novel and the latest effort from Ted Lasso and Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence. With a similarly quirky blend of eccentrics as those shows, this ten-episode dark comedy joins the swelling roster of murder-mystery shows on Apple TV+.
Channelling the likes of Dexter and Death In Paradise, this is a solidly entertaining crime-solving caper which trades heavily in nicely gripping twists and turns, as it delves deep into the greed and corruption in both the Florida Keys and The Bahamas. What begins as a local case involving a severed limb discovered on a fishing trip quickly balloons into an increasingly absurd investigation, complete with cons, Russian mobs, crooked cops and voodoo magic. Some viewers, it’s fair to say, may need to suspend a fair bit of disbelief as that ridiculousness escalates.

For Bill Lawrence and Vince Vaughn, “Bad Monkey” was more than just another show. It was a passion project fueled by an author they both love, Carl Hiaasen.
“Without being a dork, he was so influential for me as a storyteller. I started reading his books when I was a teenager,” Bill Lawrence, the developer and executive producer behind the Apple TV+ original, told TheWrap.
Lawrence has a long history with Florida, the setting behind Hiaasen’s quip-filled and twisted literary thrillers. His parents currently live there, and his aunts and uncles are all fishing guides along the St. Johns River. Given that background and Lawrence’s own sense of humor, it’s only natural he would connect with one of the bestselling novelists in Florida, an author who’s known for his dark comedy as much as his grisly murder mysteries.

The first two episodes of Bad Monkey are now streaming on Apple TV+ and give audiences much to unpack. Let’s recap by highlighting the key events. Spoilers ahead!
Bad Monkey’s premiere episode gets right down to business. The severed arm is found by an immature fisher and the authorities at Key West, Florida, want to keep this as underwraps to avoid media attention and panic from tourists. The arm is handed over to Detective Ro (John Ortiz), who takes it to Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), a suspended detective down on his luck. You see, Yancy had an affair with Bonnie (Michelle Monaghan) and things didn’t go well when Bonnie’s husband caught them together.
An angry Yancy decided the best thing to do is push Bonnie’s husband, who was minding his own business sitting in his golf cart, into the ocean…in front of dozens of witnesses.

Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn) is your dad’s ideal protagonist. His happy place is his front yard, with his butt wearing a groove in an Adirondack chair and a local beer keeping his hand from overheating. That his lawn faces the ocean is a nice bonus, and that his endless blue view is being impeded by a monstrous yellow mansion next door, well, that’s his primary complaint. You see, Yancy doesn’t need much. A view, a drink, and a comfy spot to appreciate them both — that’s bliss. But, aside from the hideous remodel going on next door, Yancy’s stress stems from a love/hate relationship with his job. On the one hand, being a detective feeds his ingrained need for justice — he just wants things to be fair, for everyone to get along, and for those who get in the way of the world’s good...

This Bad Monkey review contains no spoilers.
There’s a lot going on in Apple TV+’s new comedy Bad Monkey, and the titular monkey is the least of it. In the first episode alone, we’re introduced to a severed arm in a cooler, an acrimonious real-estate feud, a boho-chic chick with a questionable past, a heaping dose of witchcraft, and gorgeous views as far as the eye can see. Based on the cult classic novel Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen, the show splits its time between Miami, Key West, and the island of Andros in the Bahamas. The relaxed beach atmosphere, combined with an audaciously quirky cast of characters and ongoing cat-and-mouse detective game, makes for an irresistible end-of-summer escape.
Vince Vaughn is at the center of the controlled insanity. He plays Andrew Yancy, a Hiaasen fan-favorite character. As the series opens, Yancy is on mandatory leave from...

The hero wanders through his scenes, casually purposeful. His shirts fit like they were tailored for him, even though nothing about his particular kind of attractiveness suggests that he’s fussed over it. He keeps up a steady, teasing patter; the characters who aren’t his friends reveal themselves in their inability to keep up with him. When he finds himself in mortal danger, he quickly shakes it off. When a sexy lady crosses his path, he flirts exactly enough to intrigue her. What makes him cool, above all, is that we can tell coolness isn’t something he’s ever bothered to think about: his every move seems effortless. But if leading a show like Bad Monkey really were as easy as Vince Vaughn makes it look, everyone would do it.

Despite its familiar trope of a dismissed police detective trying to solve a crime he shouldn’t be anywhere near, “Bad Monkey” on Apple TV+ hits its marks and largely nails its comedic tone. Vince Vaughn, staring as Andrew Yancy, drew me in initially but it’s the show’s supporting cast that manages to keep the show afloat for its 10-episode run. The show — based on Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 novel of the same name — is witty and good for at least a few laugh-out-loud moments. Fans of “Shrinking” and “Ted Lasso,” also on Apple TV+, shouldn’t hesitate to jump into the warm Florida Keys’ water with “Bad Monkey” when the series premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Review: The last time Vince Vaughn starred in a mystery series for television, the result was the divisive second season of True Detective. Playing a fully dramatic role was nothing new for the versatile Vaughn, but the mixed reception pushed the actor back to the big screen. Aside from a recurring role in the final seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Vince Vaughn has stayed away from television until now. It’s been nearly 30 years since Vince Vaughn first exploded onto movie screens as Trent, the slick, confident best friend to Jon Favreau’s Mikey in Swingers, who was forever convinced that a trip to Las Vegas could solve any emotional problem. In the decades since, Vaughn has never lost that irrepressible presence, though some projects have taken better advantage of those gifts than others. Age comes for all of us, so it seems appropriate that in his latest role, as Florida cop Andrew Yancy in Apple’s Bad Monkey,...

To lift a title from kids’ novelist Wilson Rawls, this has become the Summer of the Monkeys.
Before we get to HBO’s Chimp Crazy and Netflix’s Secret Lives of Orangutans, devotees of the simian arts will be treated to Apple TV+’s Bad Monkey, a Carl Hiaasen adaptation from the streamer’s comedy patron saint, Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking).
Contrary to the show and novel’s name, the eponymous monkey is not, in fact, bad. Played by veteran animal thespian Crystal — you know her from Community, The Fabelmans and more — she is, in fact, quite good, reliable for reactive cutaways or wild, furry hijinks. She (actually, Crystal is playing a character who seems to identify as male, but we are not going down the path of monkey pronouns here) doesn’t always feel particularly connected to the plot of Bad Monkey, but it’s charming and fun just to have her around.

Eddie Vedder has released a cover of Tom Petty’s song “Room at the Top.”
Originally released on Petty’s 1999 album Echo, “Room at the Top” has been in rotation at Vedder’s solo shows for some time. In 2018, he even performed it during the “In Memoriam” tribute to Petty at the Academy Awards. Now, his studio version arrives as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Apple TV+ show, Bad Monkey, set to premiere on August 14th.

Beginning with a ballad arrangement led by simple electric guitar strumming, Vedder’s rendition of “Room at the Top” blossoms into a full-fledged rock anthem, with a climatic organ solo to boot. Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel’s Shrinking returns for season 2 on Apple TV in October, and here are the details.
According to Deadline, Apple has confirmed that the Shrinking season 2 will begin on the 15th October.
Bill Lawrence is probably best known for creating Scrubs, the wonderful hospital sitcom which ran for nine seasons from 2002 to 2009. It showcased Lawrence’s skill in weaving incredible pathos through a show crammed with jokes – My Lunch from season 5 may just be one of the best examples of this in any sitcom – and he has only gone from strength to strengh.
After six seasons of Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox, he co-created Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, which soon became a global phenomenon due to its mix of hope, kindness and uncynical humour.
That brings us to Shrinking, which he co-created with Jason Segel and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein.

Bad Monkey, Bill Lawrence’s adaptation of the Carl Hiaasen 2013 novel of the same thing and a longtime passion project for the power producer, is finally set to premiere. Having firmed up plans for its Aug. 14 release, Apple TV+ dropped the first trailer for the project on Wednesday.
The Florida-set dramedy mystery tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), a former Miami P.D. detective whose transfer to the Keys quickly resulted in him getting bounced from the force entirely to work as a health inspector. When a privileged tourist hooks a human arm on a fishing trip, Yancy is drawn into a murder mystery whose resolution he thinks might earn back his badge.
Filling out the comically large ensemble of oddball characters related to the case are L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat , Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet and a capuchin playing the titular primate.
