As the Thessaloniki Film Festival kicks off its 63rd edition, this year’s industry section features the pilot edition of a dedicated television strand and the launch of a Think Tank series calling on European film markets to chart a common course for industry confabs in the future.
Such initiatives are part of newly appointed industry head Angeliki Vergou’s mandate to steer the annual event through uncertain times for the global film industry even as the growing Greek business continues to surge, thanks in part to a 40 cash rebate that has lured international productions such as Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winner “Triangle of Sadness” and Rian Johnson’s Netflix blockbuster “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
With its Agora Series section, Thessaloniki will hope to capitalize on a raft of new high-end TV productions looking to put Greek drama on the map.

In keeping with animation tradition, “Big Mouth” co-creator Andrew Goldberg assumed that — like “The Simpsons” or “South Park” before it — the adult-geared series would remain stagnant in time. So much for Charles Bradley’s “Changes” theme song.
Thankfully, though, no one else agreed: The crux of the in-your-face, earnest and raunchy Netflix show about puberty is just that — the rapid changes that occur in adolescence, from the pesky zits to the growing emotional maturity that stops everything in its tracks.
“Puberty is a defined time of life, and our kids are getting older in the show,” fellow co-creator Mark Levin told TheWrap in an interview. “Bart Simpson has been the same age for 30 years or whatever, but for our show, we really want to progress them through time, and they’re moving through eighth grade now. We want to be able to tell the story of puberty as a time of life,...

In a bid to adapt to the ever-changing content market, Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s industry component, Agora, is unveiling a slew of new initiatives as it gears up for its 63rd edition.
This year, it’s launching its newly-established Agora Series section, where it will dedicate an entire day (November 10) to shining a spotlight on the TV sector. Representatives from Greek broadcasters and international execs from places such as Netflix Italy, Sky Studios and Germany’s Nadcon Production, will touch down for the event, which will also feature networking events, discussion panels and a masterclass from Big Mouth and Glow scriptwriter and producer Victor Quinaz.
“We wanted to introduce this to the Agora line-up to reflect what is happening right now in Greece and how we’re working with TV series,” says Angeliki Vergou, head of Agora. “There has been a boom of production in Greece right now from abroad and that,...

Last year Netflix’s “Glow” reaped eight Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Supporting Actress for Betty Gilpin, winning prizes for its production design and stunts. Yet stars Alison Brie and Marc Maron were nowhere to be found in the respective lead and supporting categories, despite bids at the Golden Globes (Brie) and SAG (Brie and Maron). With the second season garnering even better reviews than the first, voters should make up for their shocking snubs.

Year two of the ’80s set comedy about lady wrestlers provides Brie with some primo material to work with. Ruth Wilder, the aspiring actress who hits her stride while in the ring, gets her ankle broken by her scorned best friend (Gilpin), fights off the advances of a leering network executive, explores new creative outlets by directing the show-within-a-show, and finds new love with a sweet-natured...

Through the first pair of seasons on the Netflix show “Glow,” most of the characters have been in search of something. Even as Season 3 transplants the series’ central group of wrestlers to the bright lights of Las Vegas, it sure seems like that’s one thing that won’t be changing any time soon.
The show’s three main characters are all still holding on to a tenuous grasp on cooperation. Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) are navigating their complicated relationship inside and outside the ring.
Sam (Marc Maron) made the trip out to Vegas with the rest of the Glow team, but it seems like he and Ruth haven’t quite gotten over last season’s brush with something a little more than friendship. Ruth’s boyfriend Russell (Victor Quinaz) is also in tow, giving her plenty to juggle when she’s not headlining nightly Vegas shows...

In this corner: An August 9 premiere date for Season 3 of Glow, Netflix’s female-wrestling comedy inspired by the 1980s show. Check out the first-look photos from the new season above and below.
Glow tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin ), a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture-perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

Anyone who expected “Big Mouth” to offer up a familiar, mushy Valentine’s Day special either has never seen an episode before or is about to be extremely disappointed. Either way, the double episode “My Furry Valentine” picks right up where the show’s fabulous Season 2 left off, giving a pretty good overview of what this animated treasure can do with the freedom it’s earned.
At the risk of recapping the entire premise of this love-themed two-parter, it’s fair to say that each of the show’s core beloved characters gets a helpful refresh in their respective anxieties. Brian Shoaf‘s directorial debut might have found its second wind. After a failed Kickstarter attempt to drum up some coin with Adrien Grenier and Mamie Gummer toplining, now Variety reports that Jenny Slate is in negotiations to join Zachary Quinto on Aardvark. Susan Leber (Hello I Must Be Going), Neal Dodson (A Most Violent Year) and Quinto are producing. Filming is expected to begin this December in New York with supporting cast announcements likely in the works.

If "Interstellar" has taught us anything, it's that there are certain human behaviors — love, relationships, the desire to connect — that span generations and galaxies, and if you're looking for a less lugubrious, more mirthful take on that notion, than the comedy "Periods" may be what you're looking for. Co-written and directed by Victor Quinaz, and starring Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Willie Garson, and Grace Helbig, "Periods" jumps through past and future, from the big bang to the end times, from the bliss of the garden of Eden to the greatest wedding nightmare in Long Island’s long nightmarish history, to show how through the ages men and women have managed to get along, get by and get it on. Sometimes it works out, and other times, well, as you'll see, it doesn't. "Periods" is now available on all your favorite digital platforms. Watch below.

Breakup at a Wedding shows Vic (actually director Victor Quinaz) as he captures the events that happen around the wedding between Phil Havemeyer (Philip Quinaz) and Alison Jones (Alison Fyhrie). Being the type of videographer that goes super in depth, Vic captures everything, including Alison having a massive panic attack and telling Phil in supposed privacy that she wanted out; she couldn’t go through with the wedding. Together, they decide to have the wedding anyway but not sign the marriage contract, so that everyone thinks they’re married why legally they’re not. However, Phil is more than reluctant about this, and hatches a plan to end up married.

Those who believe weddings to be exorbitant, empty spectacles have a fair-weather friend in writer-director Victor Quinaz, whose inventive debut, Breakup at a Wedding, attempts an aloof, smirking pose but surrenders to sentimentality in the end. The setup is rom com meets reality TV: Over 28-some hours, a cynical wedding videographer (Quinaz) narrates and records the disintegrating nuptials of aspiring yuppies Alison (Alison Fyhrie) and Phil (Philip Quinaz). The resulting mockumentary is suitably ugly, with the jerky rhythms, awkward close-ups, and palm-rubbing schadenfreude so common to TLC programming. Thankfully, no Bridezillas abound; instead, the pair believably break up during the rehearsal dinner, with the bride-to-be confessing she's just been going through the motions i...

We've heard some pretty terrible wedding disaster stories here at HuffPost Weddings, but those featured in a new video by Periods. Films may take the cake.
Periods. recently released a feature-length film, "Breakup at a Wedding," that centers around an utterly disastrous fictional wedding. Filmmaker Victor Quinaz took a web survey asking fans to submit their own wedding disaster stories in conjunction with the release of film; in the video above, actor Zachary Quinto reads three of the most harrowing tales. In one story, a former bride remembers the nude portraits of her and her husband drawn in their guestbook, and in another, a guest recalls the time a bridesmaid threw up on the bride and all over the couple's cake. Yikes.
Quinaz also interviewed real-life couples, wedding guests, wedding vendors and others about the most jaw-dropping events they'd ever witnessed at weddings. Click through the slideshow below to take a look at those interviews,...

Pretty much everything which could go wrong at a wedding does so in the new movie Breakup at a Wedding — and every hiccup is diligently captured through the videographers’ lenses in this found footage comedy. The film was directed by Victor Quinaz and stars his brother Philip and Alison Fyhrie as the unfortunate betrothed couple. The movie’s producers, meanwhile, include Zachary Quinto. Yes, that Zachary Quinto (although, to be honest, I’ve yet to hear of another one).

Over the past few years, Zachary Quinto has established his acting rep by playing Sylar in Heroes, a couple of memorable roles on American Horror Story, and, of course, Spock in the last two Star Trek movies. So you could describe his transition into producing as, well, “logical.” Certainly it has gotten off to an encouraging start. Quinto produced director J.C. Chandor’s financial crisis movie Margin Call through the actor’s Before the Door company — the production outfit he runs with partners Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson — and exec produced Chandor’s Robert Redford-starring All Is Lost, which just screened at Cannes.

True Blood's Michael McMillan is having a good week. Variety reports that Warner Bros. is developing Lucid, the comic book mini-series from Archaia Entertainment. Akiva Goldsman is on board to develop and produce the project. The book was created by Zachary Quinto’s production banner Before the Door, which is on board to adapt it for the big screen.
Lucid was first introduced at Comic-Con in 2009, and was described as "a tale of what would happen to Harry Potter if he grew up and joined the CIA." WB is looking for every possible replacement for the Harry Potter franchise, so this deal makes a lot of sense.
McMillian wrote the story, which was illustrated by Anna Wieszczyk. The four-book series "takes place in a parallel universe where magic is real and world leaders have secret agents working to fight off supernatural threats. Main character is a young agent, recently appointed 'Protector of the Realm,...

Last month’s Margin Call felt like a good start point for the recently-launched banner, Before the Door, and the first signs of how the film payed off are now coming to light. Deadline reports that Door’s Zachary Quinto, Neal Dodson, and Corey Moosa will produce the romantic drama Imperial Palace with Killer Films, the company recently behind Cracks and HBO’s Mildred Pierce.
Victor Quinaz wrote (and plans to direct) the film, which “takes place six hours after Hurricane Katrina hits the gulf, as the jaded manager of a Biloxi casino tries to juggle the chaos when Fema sets up headquarters at his establishment.” Our main conflict comes into play when, as a result of the influx of people in his establishment, an “old flame” and he cross paths. To me, that almost sounds like Casablanca in New Orleans — minus the Nazis. Quinto himself referred to the writer...

Our heads have been spinning lately with all of the newly-announced projects presented at Cannes. It's hard to keep up. But, here is a glimpse at a few interesting and/or noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of development titles this week:
Sweat Tea – Sissy Spacek doesn’t have time to worry about a planned Carrie remake, the erstwhile prom queen is set to make her directorial debut with this family drama set in the deep south during the Great Depression. Get Low scribe C. Gaby Mitchell will adapt the screenplay from a novel written by Julia Oliver.
Father Daughter Time – Matt Damon’s set to step behind the camera, too, in this Warner Bros. project written by Matthew Aldrich. Damon also stars as a dad who drags his daughter along a crime spree that spans across three state lines.
The Idolmaker – Completing the trifecta of first time thesps-turned-directors is Ryan Gosling. Directing his first feature—a remake of Taylor Hackford’s 1980 biopic of early rock ‘n’ roll era producer Bob Marcucci, Gosling is also set to star in the film for MGM.
Blind – Uma Thurman and Clive Owen team up in this romantic drama written by Norman Mailer’s son, John Buffalo Mailer. Mark Damon produces the film about a blind writer who hooks up with a married woman.
Mr. Murder Is Dead – Zachary Quinto and Neal Dodson will produce this crime thriller based on Victor Quinaz’s graphic novel via their Before the Door Pictures. Film centers on a retired cop investigating the death of his former nemesis.
Go the F--k to Sleep – We could hardly believe the children’s book that inspired this pic was for real. But topping Amazon’s bestsellers list (before its publication date!) is no joke. If the movie lives up to the hype and wins over parents with a dark sense of humor, then Fox 2000 will have the last laugh. Just, please don’t change the title.

The series is set in a pulp noir world and centres around an elderly police officer, named Gould Kane, who gets caught up in a murder mystery. "It's totally noir. People get punched and shot, and maybe in the middle of it, they'll solve who killed Mr. Murder," said writer Victor Quinaz. "I really feel like, at the core of all noir, is this really cool philosophy. If you're familiar with the Philip Marlowe or Sam Spade characters, they become the moral arbitrator.
