Netflix’s beloved fantasy action comedy-drama series One Piece has officially wrapped production on Season 2, with an important casting of Rigo Sanchez as Luffy’s father, Dragon, revealed.

Based on the popular Japanese manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, the Netflix series follows Monkey D. Luffy as he goes on a perilous adventure to become the King of the Pirates. He is joined by his crew, which includes master swordsman Roronoa Zora, expert thief and cartographer Nami, chef Sanji, and storyteller Usopp.

Most of the cast from Season 1, including Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, Taz Skylar, Ilia Isorelys Paulino, Jeff Ward, and Michael Dorman, will be returning to reprise their roles.

The Straw Hats are coming back to Netflix! Fairly or not, Michael Scott's (Steve Carell) departure from "The Office" in Season 7 marks the dividing line between what many fans deem "Good Office" and "Bad Office." The casting for Netflix’s One Piece live-action Season 2 has been met with controversy, with certain sections of the fanbase expressing dissatisfaction over the choices for key characters.

Criticism arose when it was revealed that Sendhil Ramamurthy and Charitra Chandran, both Indian-origin actors, would portray King Cobra, ruler of Alabasta, a kingdom inspired by ancient Egypt, and his daughter Nefertari Vivi.

This led to accusations of “Arab erasure” from some fans online.

Similarly, Lera Abova’s casting as Miss All Sunday also faced backlash due to her Russian heritage, with fans questioning the accuracy of her portrayal.

However, the latest message from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, which came out on Nov 26, 2024, may quell these concerns.

After visiting the production set in Cape Town, South Africa, Oda shared his impressions of the cast and crew, offering his full endorsement of the casting decisions.

Channel 4 has renewed the psychological drama for a second season after the first became the UK network’s biggest scripted streaming launch on record, with episode one garnering more than a million views in its first seven days.

Channel 4 co-produced Season 1 of The Couple Next Door with Starz, but the Lionsgate brand was not mentioned in the press release for Season 2. Deadline has asked about Starz’s involvement.

The One Piece live-action has been exceptional with its casting. From the first season to now the second, not a single cast member has disappointed so far. From Iñaki Godoy and Mackenyu as Luffy and Zoro to the recently announced Charithra Chandran and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Vivi and Nefertari Cobra, there has been not a moment’s worth of disappointment.

While for some the announcements at first may seem doubtful and skeptical, it is best not to judge talent before it can be perfectly executed. The main cast of the series has showcased exactly that and it would be unfair not to let the new cast members have a chance either. However, there is one character that will appear in future seasons whose perfect live-action counterpart already exists.

Nearly 11 years after wrapping their run as hosts of TLC’s 10-season What Not to Wear — and almost a year after publicly ending an off-camera feud — Stacy London and Clinton Kelly are reuniting for the new makeover series Wear Whatever the F You Want.

On the third day of live-action One Piece castings, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the series dusted off one last crew member — fan-favorite character Nefertari Vivi. The series announced that Charithra Chandran will play Baroque Works agent Miss Wednesday while Chandran confirmed that she will be playing Vivi, the Princess of Alabasta who begins her role in the story as Miss Wednesday. Charithra Chandran is a Scottish actor best known for her roles as Sabina Pleasance in Alex Rider and Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton . Charithra Chandran — who broke out playing Edwina Sharma in the regal Bridgerton drama — is set to board the second season of One Piece, Netflix’s live-action pirate adventure series about a young, superpowered pirate captain who dreams of finding the ultimate treasure.

Chandran becomes a series regular in the role of Miss Wednesday, appearing along previously announced new castmembers Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra and Brendan Sean Murray as Brogy.

Netflix’s One Piece series is a live-action manga adaptation of a series by Eiichiro Oda about Monkey D. Luffy, a young adventurer who sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, One Piece, and become King of the Pirates while outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.

One Piece season 2 just added two more actors to the cast, and the latest announcement includes the biggest stars yet. Katey Sagal and Mark Harelik are joining the cast of the live-action adaptation of the anime.

Deadline shared the addition of the two actors. Fans of the anime are sure to be excited about this casting. After all, they will play two characters fans have been excited to see in the live-action from the start.

Who will Katey Sagal play in One Piece season 2?

Sagal will take on the role of Dr. Kureha, one of the most anticipated additions to season 2. At one point, Jamie Lee Curtis was potentially going to take on the role, but her schedule didn’t work out. The series films in South Africa, and Curtis is a sought-after actress in Hollywood.

That’s okay, because the series has an outstanding actress to take on the role instead.

Netflix is paging Katey Sagal (Married… With Children, Sons of Anarchy) for a key role in the upcoming second season of One Piece.

The Golden Globe Award-winning actress is set to portray Dr. Kureha, an eccentric medical professional who crosses paths with Monkey D.
