Don Rutherford(II)
- Make-Up Department
- Special Effects
- Additional Crew
Don Rutherford grew up watching old horror
and science fiction movies, reading monster
magazines & building models. These childhood hobbies eventually lead to the make-up business.
He picked up the guitar at age 10 and was performing in nightclubs by the age of
14, chaperoned by his parents. Rutherford moved to Los Angeles at the
age of 23 after having a career discussion with blues guitarist
Albert Collins. Once in Hollywood he worked at several different set jobs [swing
gang, set construction, art department, production assistant] before finally deciding to enter the make up department. While
learning the craft he paid the bills working as a miniature artist, painting collectible model
kits for Creature Features, a Burbank store that specialized in film
memorabilia. During this time he studied the techniques of famous
make-up and special effects artists as he constantly re-created their work in miniature. 3
years later, Don started working as a free-lance
make-up artist, both on set and in make-up effects shops,
joined the west coast make-up artists union in 2003. To be nearer to his family, Don relocated to Georgia in 2015 and joined the east coast make-up artists union.
