In 2001 his family organized a surprise party for his 80 birthday in Doré theatre in Madrid (present Spanish film library). His actor friends Juan Luis Galiardo and Paco Rabal (who recite a poem) were there too. His wife said she received so many telephone calls preparing the secret party he thought she was having an affair.

Withdrawn a while from the cinema due to a back injury, he invests in hospitality and starts a business in Marbella.
