Norman Macdonnell and John Meston's "Gunsmoke" drama series aired on CBS for 20 uninterrupted seasons (!), a feat that feels even more impressive due to the consistent quality maintained throughout its run. Initially a radio series that broadcast between 1952 and 1961, "Gunsmoke" gained steady enough popularity to warrant a television adaptation in 1955, whose half to one-hour episodes culminate to form an epic Western saga for the ages. The nexus of "Gunsmoke" is one lawman Marshal Matt Dillon (James Arness) tasked to maintain order in Dodge City, Kansas, and his exploits underline the brutality of the Old West, challenging stereotypes attached to similar figures molded as unambiguously heroic. Although the show did employ archetypal characters — such as the loyal sidekick Chester Goode (Dennis Weaver) and the trustworthy town physician Doc Adams (Milburn Stone) — an appropriate amount of nuance grounds "Gunsmoke," which works best when rooted in morally grey vignettes.

Gunsmoke actor James Arness brought joy to audiences around the world with his portrayal of U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon. However, he was also a bright beam of light for the cast and crew that worked with him for many hours. In fact, many of them became like a family away from home. Arness made a point of making the same familiar faces feel special while filming the made-for-tv Gunsmoke movies.

Actor James Arness played U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke for many years. However, he once admitted that it took some time for him to settle into the role, seeking out an acting coach to get over his anxiety. Arness still managed to make the role his own, putting a spin on the character that delighted Western television fans. Arness had a simple way of transforming into Matt on the set.

Gunsmoke aired on the television network CBS for 20 seasons between 1955 and 1975. However, the cancelation surprised the cast and crew, who didn’t see it coming. An entire 12 years later, Gunsmoke returned in the form of movies made for television. This decision revived the beloved Western series for five films. Here’s a look at the IMDb ratings from worst to best.
5. ‘Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge’ (1987) L-r: James Arness as Matt Dillon and Amanda Blake as Kitty Russell | CBS
Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge was the first of the made-for-tv movies, but it’s also the worst-rated with a 6.9 audience score.
It saw James Arness and Amanda Blake reprise their roles of U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon and Miss Kitty Russell. Return to Dodge is a continuation of season 14 episode 17 – “Mannon.” It isn’t the fans’ favorite, but they still enjoyed it as a reunion film after so many years. Unfortunately, it...

Three decades have now passed since Bill S Preston Esquire and Ted 'Theodore' Logan first embarked on an Excellent Adventure to find historical figures so that they could pass their history exam and take the first steps in their great destiny. It has been at least a decade since Keanu Reeves started talking about making a film in which they had grown older but were living in exactly the same way, having made no progress at all. Now, in 2020, Bill and Ted are historical figures. They're no closer to their destiny. The same future historians who filled their heads with dreams are beginning to panic. If the chosen ones can't create the song that unites the world, the structure of time and space itself could collapse.

Weezer’s latest music video sees them auditioning to be the opening act for none other than Wyld Stallyns, the band fronted by Bill S. Preston and Ted Theodore Logan in “Bill & Ted Face the Music.”
Their new song “Beginning of the End” is just one track on a soundtrack album in support of the film, which also features songs by Cold War Kids, Mastodon, Fidlar, Lamb of God and a few originals by Wyld Stallyns themselves.
Weezer’s track, which you can hear above, is about overcoming insecurity and taking the stage even though you’re “so scared,” and it fits well with the themes of “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” which grapples with the two heroes still working to fulfill their rock and roll destiny even decades after they went on their excellent adventure and bogus journey.

During a most excellent panel discussion of Bill & Ted Face the Music on Saturday (July 25) at Comic-Con@Home, it came to light that actors Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving, who play the daughters of the title dudes, had never seen the first two movies in the series before.
While Lundy-Paine did not delve too deeply into why they had never checked out the original Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) or Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the Australian-born Weaving — who broke out last year with American audiences in the horror comedy Ready or Not — chalked this heinous gap in her cinematic knowledge up to when and where she was born.
“I unfortunately was born in 1992, so it was before my time,” she said during the Kevin Smith-moderated talk (see below), which also featured Keanu Reeves (Ted), Alex Winter (Bill), William Sadler (Death), director Dean Parisot plus writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.

It’s a tough time for high school graduates, whose traditional cap and gown ceremonies have turned mostly virtual because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But San Dimas High School’s virtual ceremony was brightened by an appearance from the school’s most famous alumni: Bill Preston and Ted Logan, aka Keanu Reeves (Ted) and Alex Winter (Bill), who showed up on Zoom to offer some brief inspiration to the Class of 2020.
The time travelers and air guitar experts, who appeared in the 1989 film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and its sequels, appeared in character for their cameo.
“We know that it’s a tough time right now and that you’re having to do this virtual graduation,” Winter said. “We wanna wish you the best of luck moving forward.”
“Well done,” added Reeves.
“Most importantly, we wanted to tell you to be excellent to each other,” Winter said.

I love that Sadler is back as Death. I have no idea how he’s going to play into the story, but I hope that he has a decent sized role in the film.

Legendary comedian George Carlin played a big role in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. He took on the role of Rufus, a dude who traveled back in time in order to make sure that Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) succeeded in changing the world through their music.
Well, George’s daughter, Kelly Carlin, has been cast in the upcoming sequel, Bill & Ted Face The Music as a way to honor her dad and the character Rufus. Creator and screenwriter told MovieWeb:
"There's also a character in the movie named Kelly, which is George's daughter's name, who has a very significant role in the journey, so George is a deep, deep part of it.”
There’s no word on who she will be playing in the film, but she could very well end up playing Rufus’s daughter. That would be cool if...

Death has apparently aged very well over the years. William Sadler, who played the Grim Reaper in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey and will now reprise his role in the upcoming Bill & Ted Face the Music, confirmed this on Twitter recently by tweeting out a picture of him all decked out in costume. Despite the last film occurring nearly twenty years ago, the 69-year-old looks as spry as ever.
This picture of Sadler in character has plenty of fans pumped for the long-awaited completion of the trilogy. In fact, one of the many people who are excited by it is fellow actor Colin Hanks, who responded to the photo with “Yes!!!!” The simple yet fitting sentiment was echoed with gifs and messages of support by nearly everyone in Sadler’s replies.
