Born in Echo Park. Raised in the Northern California towns of Berkeley
and Sonoma. Joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1983. Trained as an Aviation
Electrician and an Emergency Medical Technician. He was stationed in
New Orleans, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles where his duties were search
and rescue, flight mechanic instructor, and managing helicopter
maintenance crews. Honorably discharged in 1992. Studied Poetry at UCLA
Extension and with Jack Grapes. Nominated for a Pushcart Prize in
1999.
