1968's "Planet of the Apes" is one of the most legendary sci-fi movies in cinematic history. Co-written by Rod Serling of "The Twilight Zone" fame and directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, it spawned a franchise that is still going strong to this day.

It all started, however, with the story of astronauts landing on a mysterious planet filled with intelligent apes, only to discover that they were actually on Earth in the distant future. Led by Charlton Heston, the film boasted an incredible cast — not to mention some legendary practical makeup effects that helped bring the apes to life. Unfortunately, when a film is more than 50 years old, not many people from the cast are going to be around any longer. Luckily, a couple of key cast members are indeed still here to help keep the legacy alive.

Miami Vice aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989. The main stars of the show are Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. The TV series takes place in Miami, Florida, and follows the lives of undercover detectives James “Sonny” Crockett (played by Johnson) and Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs (played by Thomas). The partners work in the vice division of the Miami-Dade Police Department and investigate cases involving drug trafficking, organized crime, and more.

Sometimes we hear negative stories about famous actors on set. Egos get in the way of common courtesy, political leanings can color conversations, and working conditions can bring out the worst in people. Here's an actually lovely one instead. Prosthetic makeup is a tricky thing, and I say this as someone who has worn them in productions and been a makeup artist who applied them. They are not comfortable and can be very hot, itchy, and claustrophobic. Effects makeup has come a long way since the late 1960s when "Planet of the Apes" was shooting, and even now, it's not easy to wear. Back then, it must have been awful.

Mary Willard, playwright, TV writer and wife of four-time Emmy nominee Fred Willard, has died at the age of 71.

Willard died on July 13, but news of her death was recently made public.

This Friday sees the release of the first "Planet of the Apes" film in a decade, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" starring James Franco. We'll have our review of the film up on Friday, but to help set the mood, here is a revised and updated version of a feature we first brought you in 2008 on the 40th anniversary of the original "Planet of the Apes." Below you'll find a guide to all six previous movies, with synopses, spoilers, continuity errors, and a celebration of all the high-minded social commentary and low-brow schlocky ape masks that make the "Apes" films one of the most satisfying of all sci-fi franchises.

Please note: Most "Planet of the Apes" films have a "shocking" twist that everyone at this point already knows. However, if you have somehow extricated yourself from forty years of pop culture references, by all means be wary of Spoilers ahead.

Maw Maw becomes obsessed with hunting vicious Kenyan pygmy mongooses after seeing them on TV. When she puts a hole in the wall with a gunshot, Jimmy questions the wisdom of keeping a gun in the house. It's ancient wisdom. for 2012 when Virginia thinks the world is going to end. She promises to get a gun safe, but they are going to need a gun against rioting angry hordes (not whores like Jimmy and Burt think).

Jimmy should not worried about the 2012 apocalypse. Sabrina tells him there are many everyday things can kill him. He should make a will to arrange for someone to take care of Hope when he is gone.

They go to Wally Phipps (Lou Wagner), the lawyer from "Blue Dots", who also charges with a meter thingy. The family has to decide who will be the backup guardian when they all die. $40 later, Burt can't think think think think of anyone.

Raising Hope is another of those breakout successes of this season. It's about a young man who brings home a baby girl he just found out he fathered, to his family who don't want anything to do with raising her.

Having just watched Episode 1.08 Blue Dots, it has proven to me how funny this show really is. Lou Wagner as the Chance family's new lawyer Wally Phipps was great casting. I remembered him from CHiPs, but he's also famous for playing a Ferengi in Star Trek The Next Generation and an ape in Planet of the Apes.

Here is my recap of the episodes I have watched so far.

1.01 Pilot

Jimmy Chance (Lucas Neff) lives at home with his carefree parents, Burt (Garrett Dillahunt) and Virginia (Martha Plimpton), Jimmy's great grandmother Maw Maw (Cloris Leachman). He didn't know he got a girl pregnant and that girl ended up on death row.

Now that the new Hawaii Five-0 is one of the most anticipated new series of the 2010-11 season, it looks like another cop show of that era might be remade. Deadline is reporting that a new CHiPs series is in the works.

The original CHiPs began in 1977 and revolves around motorcycles cops of the California Highway Patrol. The series made household names of Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox and also featured the talents of Robert Pine, Paul Linke, Brodie Greer, Randi Oakes, Lew Saunders, Lou Wagner, and Michael Dorn.

The series went off the air in 1983 after six seasons and 139 episodes. A TV movie, CHiPs '99, reunited some of the cast for TNT in 1998.
