One of the great jazz drummers. He started with the Gene Kardos society orchestra in 1933, then gigged and recorded with many of the top big bands of the period, including Benny Goodman (1934), Tommy Dorsey (1935) and Artie Shaw (1936). In the 1940's, he concentrated on free-lance recording (notably with Louis Armstrong and Johnny Guarnieri) and eventually led his own highly popular dance band in some of the top hotels and dance halls around Los Angeles.
