Many country fans fully believe that there is ongoing bad blood between Hank Williams Jr. and Garth Brooks. This is based on a quote that many believe came from Hank Jr. badmouthing Brooks. So, did Williams Jr. really say what people think he said about Garth Brooks?
Hank Williams Jr. Has Had A Successful Music Career
When your dad is Hank Williams, and considered to be one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century, those are some big boots to fill for anyone. Luckily, Hank Williams Jr. has been up to the task over the years. Despite being pushed to follow in his father’s footsteps early on, Hank Jr. found ways to distinguish himself, and carve out his own niche outside of his father’s large shadow.
When you come from, essentially, the stock of country royalty, it can be a tough thing for some people to live up to.

Back in 2021, Post Malone turned the heads of country-music fans when he covered two songs on the opposite ends of the country spectrum during an online telethon: Brad Paisley’s radio hit “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song)” and Sturgill Simpson’s underground favorite “You Can Have the Crown.” Malone, a pop superstar who has been teasing his country fandom as far back as 2015, delivered the tunes with traditional twang and rough-edged vibes, suggesting a genuine affinity for and deep knowledge of the genre. The year in music already belonged to Post Malone well before he scored the longest-running No. 1 song of the year (so far) with the lead single off his upcoming album, the Morgan Wallen-assisted “I Had Some Help.” In an unlikely coincidence, he had been summoned by the musical gods of contemporary music — Beyoncé and Taylor Swift — to appear on both of their recent albums, which were released three weeks apart in March and April.
You could call Malone the luckiest artist in the world, but getting the call from Bey and Tay only proves he’s got the special sauce that could turn into potential Grammy gold for the rapper/singer/songwriter/guitarist/rising country star who has 10 career nominations with no wins.

There’s no better way to get hype for a basketball game than with a little “Roundball Rock”. Ok, so “Sweet Georgia Brown” is up there, too, but John Tesh’s song helped define pro basketball for a generation, with “Roundball Rock” serving as the anthem for NBA on NBC for over a decade. Now, it is set to take the court yet again, as Tesh has delivered another spin on the instrumental.
John Tesh built up the updated version of “Roundball Rock” during an interview on The Dan Le Batard Show (via The Hollywood Reporter) by saying, “We went back into the studio and got me on Hammond organ and a guitar player named Andrew Synowiec, which was pretty incredible, and the rest of my band…I wrote an extra piece to put on the end of ‘Roundball Rock’, and then we did what’s known as the shredded version.

Rapper Post Malone Takes On Country Music
Post Malone made a name for himself for his rap music. He made a surprise appearance at the 57th annual CMA Awards in November 2023. He joined Morgan Wallen and Hardy in a tribute to the late country singer Joe Diffie, who died in 2020. The rapper joined them for performances of Diffie’s hits, “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man.”
Could Post Malone be among the nominees for the 2024 CMA Awards? It is entirely possible. Fans immediately began begging the rapper to record and release a country music album after his collab with Wallen and Hardy.
Fans asked and Post Malone listened.

Trisha Yearwood will be the inaugural recipient of CMT’s June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award, as well as performing a new song, on the “CMT Music Awards” telecast, airing live April 7 on CBS.
The singer will get the honor for her philanthropic work, which extends across many charities but most visibly includes two decades of involvement with Habitat for Humanity, which she’s long supported alongside husband Garth Brooks. (They were jointly given the org’s Habitat Humanitarians honor in 2016.)
Yearwood will use her first appearance on the annual awards show in five years to premiere “Put It in a Song,” the first preview of a forthcoming album that will be a first in her career, in that it’ll be the first collection in which she co-wrote all the songs.

His wife, Amy Carmen, posted the news on the singer’s website. He apparently died in his sleep during the weekend, but no other details were given.

ESPN has switched up its soundtrack for Monday Night Football with a new opening theme in which Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg, and Cindy Blackman Santana perform a “reimagining” of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.” Check it out below.
If you really nit-pick this, the unlikely cover actually makes a decent amount of sense: Stapleton and Snoop have both performed at recent Super Bowls, with Stapleton performing the National Anthem this year and Snoop a part of the Halftime Show in 202. “In the Air Tonight” obviously needs a powerful drummer like Santana, who’s performed with legends including Pharoah Sanders, Lenny Kravitz, and — you guessed it! — Santana.
Why Collins’ 1981 smash hit was chosen as ESPN’s new hype anthem, however, is a bit of a head-scratcher. In a statement, the network said “In the Air Tonight” has a “deep relationship” with football, “having been cited in the past and present...

Right-wing influencers are losing their minds over a new country song that just appeared on streaming services today. “Rich Men North of Richmond” is a passionate screed against the state of the country sung by Oliver Anthony, who identifies as a farmer living off the grid with his three dogs in Farmville, Virginia. In a video Anthony posted to YouTube earlier this month, he says he started writing songs in 2021 after he “wasted a lot of nights getting high and getting drunk.”

If you really want to understand where Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” comes from, you have to go all the way back to Richard Nixon — and before that, George Wallace. Wallace, a former Alabama governor and segregationist independent candidate for president in 1968, got significant support from the country world, even holding fundraisers at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. After defeating Wallace that fall, Nixon saw the right-wing potential of country music, and invited Johnny Cash to the White House a couple of years later for a concert,...

Jason Aldean’s debut single, 2005’s “Hicktown,” arrived on country radio like a kick in the teeth, blending hard rock with country music and lyrics that unabashedly celebrated a certain type of rural life: “You can see the neighbor’s butt crack nailing on his shingles/and his woman’s smokin’ Pall Mall’s, watchin’ Laura Ingalls,” he sang.
“Hicktown” was an overnight success, a Top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot Country chart and a crossover pop hit on the Hot 100. And the singles that followed were also mostly radio smashes,...

Gordon Lightfoot, often called Canada’s greatest songwriter and known worldwide as one of the founding fathers of folk-rock, has died at age 84, a representative for his family said Monday.
The musician recently cancelled all of his 2023 tour dates, citing “health-related issues.” His representatives did not elaborate further at the time.
An iconic figure in the ‘60s and ‘70s, Lightfoot wrote many songs that transcended borders and music tastes, including The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald, Ribbon of Darkness and If You Could Read My Mind, among many, many others.

Bob Dylan is an influence for many other musicians. His introspective songwriting and combination of folk and rock led to many artists trying to imitate his style. However, the “Blowin’ in the Wind” singer still learned a thing or two from other musicians, and he considered one folk artist to be a “mentor” of his.

Bob and I started spending more time in Detroit, his hometown. We had our big family wedding there, where Bob Seger and Hank Williams Jr. sang for us. Our life in Detroit was full of music. ‘Yellowstone‘ Star Luke Grimes Drops Debut Country Song, Will Perform at Under the Big Sky Fest 2023
Last January, Luke Grimes told Rolling Stone that he was plotting a solo music career. Today, the Yellowstone star makes good on that goal, dropping “No Horse to Ride,” his debut country single.
A bit of campfire country, it’s a gently strummed acoustic number with notes of pedal steel and Grimes’ easygoing voice high in the mix. Turns out Kayce Dutton can really sing, without any hint of put-on twang. “I’d be spinning my wheels going nowhere fast, pocket full of sorries and an empty glass,” he croons,...

Toby Keith performed what many believed would be his last live show after being diagnosed with stomach cancer last year.
Keith canceled the remainder of his 2022 shows during treatment, but despite the toll the disease has taken on his body, he couldn’t miss performing in Kentucky for the Breeders’ Cup horse races this week.
Fans were shocked by his appearance at his hour-long set in Lexington, Kentucky, noting that he was gaunt and slouching.
The 61-year-old country singer has been undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgery for the last year. Earlier this month, Keith said on social media the treatments were “pretty debilitating” and that he was taking time to “breathe, heal and rest.”
Friends said he wanted to prove to himself that he could still go out on stage.
Following the impromptu show, Keith accepted the BMI Icon Award in Nashville, joining the ranks of other legendary award-winners such as Dolly Parton,...

Country singer-songwriter Luke Bell, whose throwback style blended strains of Texas, Nashville and Bakersfield, has died aged 32, according to his friend and collaborator Matt Kinman. Bell, who battled severe bipolar disorder, had traveled Arizona with Kinman to work, but went missing on August 20 (Saturday) in Tucson, reports ‘Deadline’.
He was found dead about a week later, according to SavingCountryMusic.com: “not far from where he disappeared, and in a manner we all feared he would be when we first heard the news.” His cause of death is still pending an autopsy.
Kinman, who had played with Bell for the past six years, told the outlet: “We came down here to Arizona, to work down here, play some music, and he just took off. He was in the back of the truck. I went in to get something to eat. I came out, and he’d got out of the truck and left.

Rod Wave is an unabashed romantic, deploying a voice that blends airy pop melodies, emo yelps and guttural country rap idioms. On his fourth album, Beautiful Mind, the 22-year-old St. Petersburg, Florida vocalist gushes about love in a way that seems unusual for someone so closely identified with rap. “I don’t wanna be alone…don’t leave me alone,” he pleads anxiously on “Leave Me Alone.” He’s a complicated man, teetering between career ambition, melancholy introspection, macho aggression, and heartbroken sensitivity. And while he carefully avoids suicidal ideation,...

The Academy of Country Music’s annual “ACM Honors” special will air on the Fox network in September, putting the show back on a major broadcast network for the first time in four years. The return to a major network comes as, ironically, its parent show, the ACM Awards, made the switch from broadcast TV to being an exclusive Amazon Prime Video webcast this past spring.

When Hank Williams Jr. began his music career in the Sixties, he did little to distance himself from the shadow cast by his monumental father. He released albums with titles like Songs My Father Left Me, sang “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “Hey Good Lookin’” in the same lonesome style, and appeared onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, the very institution that fired his dad in 1952. The pressure to imitate Hank Williams and fill the void left by his untimely death at 29 was great, and it nearly swallowed him whole.
