AC/DC wrapped up their 2024 Power Up tour Saturday night in front of 82,000 screaming fans at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. It was a typically bombastic show that concluded with the title track to their 1981 LP For Those About to Rock We Salute You. Check out fan-shot video of the grand finale.

The current incarnation of the band includes classic members Brian Johnson (vocals) and Angus Young (lead guitar) alongside rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug, and bassist Chris Chaney.
Stevie, the nephew of Angus, has been with the band for several years, filling in when Malcolm Young was diagnosed with dementia and remaining with the band following Malcolm’s passing in 2017.
Laug made his debut with AC/DC at their comeback gig at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California, this past October after it was revealed that classic drummer Phil Rudd would not be performing with the band.

Legendary hard-rock band AC/DC has paid tribute to their founding member Colin Burgess, following his death aged 77.
Burgess, an Australian drummer, was recruited to form the band in 1973, along with Malcolm Young on rhythm guitar, his brother Angus on lead guitar, Dave Evans on vocals and Larry Van Kriedt on bass.
Burgess was fired from the band the following year, after his colleagues accused him of being drunk on stage; he later said his drink had been spiked. Although he left the band, he returned to fill drumming duties in 1975.
AC/DC said on their social media pages:

No cause of death has yet been reported.

His death was confirmed by the band in a statement on Facebook. “Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess,” the statement said. “He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin.”

Burgess, an Australia native, teamed with other members of the first lineup of AC/DC, which also included lead vocalist Dave Evans, Malcolm Young, Angus Young and Larry Van Kriedt. After starting with the group in 1973, he left the following year. Phil Rudd would go on to become the best-known drummer of AC/DC across three separate stints with the band, which has continued to tour in its sixth decade. Classic members Brian Johnson (vocals), Cliff Williams (bass), and Phil Rudd (drums) all rejoined AC/DC for their 2020 album Power Up. However, Rudd won’t be behind the kit when the band performs its first show in seven years on October 7th at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California.
On Saturday (September 9th), AC/DC posted rehearsal audio on their social pages (see below), with the caption: “Pwr Up for Power Trip! Listen to the rehearsal of the boys powering up with Cliff Williams, who’s coming out of retirement for the festival and Matt Laug on drums.”
Laug is a veteran drummer who has played with Alanis Morissette, Alice Cooper, and Slash’s Snakepit, among other acts. Most notably, he performed on several tracks on Morissette’s multiplatinum album Jagged Little Pill.
No reason was given for Rudd’s absence. The drummer had previously been replaced by Chris Slade...

AC/DC fans hoping to see the group back on tour sometime soon were given an encouraging sign on May 2nd when Brian Johnson came out midway through the Foo Fighters’ set to rip through “Back in Black” at Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World, which was held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Johnson’s presence wasn’t advertised, but it was proof that he’s ready to return to the stage after a long hiatus that began in 2016 when hearing problems forced to him leave an AC/DC tour prematurely.

On AC/DC’s most recent tour, in 2016, the band seemed to be falling apart. Frontman Brian Johnson’s hearing was failing, and Axl Rose wound up replacing him for part of the run; rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young — the bedrock of the band — had developed dementia and could no longer play; bassist Cliff Williams was planning his exit; and drummer Phil Rudd had been placed under house arrest for threatening to kill a man.

Over 40 years after “Highway to Hell,” AC/DC take another “deadly trip” in their new animated video for “Demon Fire,” the latest single off the rockers’ Power Up.
The “Demon Fire” visual first premiered within the game Fortnite, an appropriate venue as the clip itself is modeled after video games, with a tricked-out car racing down a desolate highway to hell, squaring off against biker gangs and swarms of police cars while leaving a trail of pyrotechnics in its wake. (AC/DC themselves appear in billboards briefly seen as the car tears down the road.

For decades, AC/DC have defended their devil-horned crown as rock’s most stubborn band. They’ve survived deaths (singer Bon Scott in 1980, guitarist Malcolm Young in 2017) and dirty deeds (drummer Phil Rudd was placed on house arrest after threatening to kill a man). Yet, they remain eternally committed to their core values: rocking out, hailing Satan, and never going within an outback mile of a ballad. Hell, their most transgressive move ever was using the bagpipes on “It’s a Long Way to the Top,” and that was in...

Two days before AC/DC release their latest LP Power Up, the band has unleashed the album’s opening salvo “Realize.”
As with first single “Shot in the Dark,” “Realize” proves that the six-year hiatus, health woes, lineup changes, and deaths haven’t diluted AC/DC’s trademark sound, with Power Up’s opening track a foot-stomping rocker propelled by Angus Young’s unmistakeable riffs.

The team behind Coachella surrendered to the inevitable this week and canceled the 2020 edition of the festival. It was originally booked for early April, weeks after the Covid-19 lockdown began, and they initially pushed it back to October in the hopes that the world would return to normal by then. As the months ticked by, however, they realized that was an overly optimistic projection and they pulled the plug until next year.

Half a year before Bon Scott’s death, he was riding high with his AC/DC bandmates on the North American leg of their If You Want Blood Tour. On July 21st, 1979, that trek brought them to Oakland for an appearance at the megafestival Day on the Green, where they played the same day as Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, and Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, among others. Judging by video of AC/DC’s appearance, though, Bon Scott had enough energy for the whole day.

AC/DC played a steamy rendition of “The Jack,” singer Bon Scott’s ode to STDs, when the band appeared on the Dutch TV show Countdown on July 13th, 1979. Timothy Showalter is ready to put away childish things, or at least sing about it. Over the past decade, the singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist has made his mark as the mastermind auteur behind the blissed out jams and shaggy rock mythmaking of Strand of Oaks. “I was lonely,” he sang on the cautious nostalgia trip of his 2014 breakthrough “Goshen 97,” “but I was having fun!”
Five years later, Showalter spends the majority of his new album meditating on what to do when that fun grows stale and creating your own rock and roll legend starts feeling tired.

AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams will no longer be back in black as the 66-year old confirmed his retirement on Tuesday. The news of Williams hanging up his bass comes during a tumultuous time for the group. During the last couple of years, AC/DC has seen the ousting (or medical leave, depending on who you ask) of lead singer Brian Johnson, Malcolm Young’s departure due to dementia, and Phil Rudd’s legal problems. “It's time for me to step out, that's all. Many in the hard rock world were shook all night long when word came out that AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson was told by doctors to stop touring immediately because he faces major hearing problems. But just days removed from this announcement, Johnson is changing his tune, and it's starting to look like he was booted from the band. According to Johnson’s friend, comedian and broadcaster Jim Breuer, the singer “feels like he just kind of got kicked to the curb.” Breuer broke the news during an interview on The Metal In Me podcast. Breuer added, “He was depressed. I’ve never seen him down before. He’s really depressed.” This is the second departure from the legendary band in recent years. In 2014, founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young had to retire due to dementia. Johnson joined AC/DC in 1980 following the death of the band’s then lead singer Bon Scott.
