John Murphy is a Canadian-Irish actor, director, writer, composer and producer of film/TV and theatre.
On TV, John has played series regulars on Sabrina and Away, and guest star roles on Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Loudermilk and The Good Doctor. Two of his favorite projects were co-starring with Bradley Whitford on the limited series Valley of the Boom, and guest starring with Uzo Aduba and Matthew Broderick on the limited series Painkiller.
He co-wrote, co-produced and directed the mockumentary, Forgotten Masters, about the greatest guitars you've ever heard... but never heard of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVLcjyTC2O8. It has been nominated for 2 Leo Awards for Best Web Series and was nominated for Best Writing, Music, Actor, Editing, Direction and Web Series at multiple film festivals. It won the Best Actor (Ken Lawson) award at the Minnesota Web Fest.
John directed, co-wrote and co-produced two short films, The Legend of Wilson Spalding and The Box (Winner of Audience Choice Award - Reelfast 48 hour Film Fest). He directed and produced the music video for the song Still Fighting, by China Repair.
In the theatre, John has acted in over a hundred plays, directed twenty-eight and written three. He has worked extensively for Bard on the Beach, Vancouver's celebrated Shakespeare festival, where he played iconic roles like Benedick, Petruchio and Jaques, and adapted/directed Measure for Measure and Much Ado About Nothing. He has been nominated for four Jessie Awards (Vancouver's Tonys) for acting. His directing and composing work has been nominated several times and he won the Jessie for Best New Play for True Story. His one-man play, The Heretic, which he starred in as well, toured across Canada and played at the Edinburgh Fringe ("A tour de Force" - the Scotsman).
John has also performed in 100's of live comedy shows - sketch, stand-up, improv. He co-founded the legendary Vancouver sketch comedy group, Gut-Wrench.
