British actor Jamie Thomas King is adapting James Titcombe’s memoir Joshua’s Story: Uncovering the Morecambe Bay Maternity Scandal for the big screen.

King, best known for star turns in Mad Men and The Tudors, is penning a screenplay for Trust, a movie to be produced along with wife and Canadian actress Tamara Podemski as part of their newly-launched Blackbird Productions banner.

“Right now, I do not have intention to act in or direct the project. But yes, I became interested in the subject following Benjamin’s death and subsequent lawsuit,” King told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.

Reservation Dogs is finally back with its third and final season and so far it has been one of the wildest experiences of my life. Created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, the comedy-drama series follows the lives of four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma who are willing to steal and rob people in order to achieve their goal of moving to California.

The FX series consists of some of the best TV writing, I have seen in years and the cast of the series seems to be doing it justice. There are many dark and depressing moments in Reservation Dogs and all of them are handled beautifully. The only bad thing in the series is that it is ending too soon.

Many of the reductive cliches surrounding Indian culture often revolve around spirits. Concepts like spirit guides, spirit quests, and spirit animals are often memetic touchstones for crunchy white Americans looking for a way to make a psychedelic mushroom trip on a Tuesday sound more profound than it really is.

One of the best aspects of Reservation Dogs, FX’s brilliant dramedy about an indigenous community in Oklahoma, is how it both reclaims and refines the pop cultural depiction of Native American spirits. There are several ghosts, apparitions, and wayward souls wandering around Rez Dogs version of the American West. Sometimes the show satirizes the notion of spirit guides – mostly through the use of Bear’s ethereal companion William Knifeman, who is supposed to be teaching the boy worthwhile lessons but who really just seems to want a young friend.

Writer and creator Sterlin Harjo promised that the Season 3 finale of “Reservation Dogs” would serve as the perfect ending to the FX series on Hulu. It’s a bold claim in a culture that often sees fans ripping finales and their writers apart. But if the first few episodes of Season 3 are any indication, it’s more than likely our beloved Rez Dogs will get as close to perfect as possible.

From the first four episodes of the final season available for review, it’s clear the writers know exactly what the viewers want: Surreal spirits and quirky side characters guiding and challenging the young crew. When Season 3 returns Wednesday, Aug. 2 on Hulu, the Rez Dogs find themselves stranded in Cali and have to figure out their way back home. “After making it back to Okern, Elora (Devery Jacobs) considers the idea of college, Bear (D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai) comes across a conspiracy theorist named Maximus (Graham Greene), Willie Jack (Paulina Alexis) grows more invested in healing her community and Cheese (Lane Factor), well, he still lives with his grandmother who’s not his grandmother,” reads the official description.

FX has released its first look at the final season of “Reservation Dogs.” Season 3’s trailer may mark the end of an era for Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi’s dry comedy, but based on the video, this last season also marks the start of something new for its central characters.

Since its premiere in 2021, “Reservation Dogs” has always been about the liminal space between childhood and adulthood. The series started with Bear (D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai) forgoing his friends’ plan to ditch the reservation after his persistent Spirit (Dallas Goldtooth) persuaded him to improve his home rather than abandon it. This first trailer hints that the ending of that personal growth is right around the corner.

“The path to healing is often found in opportunities to help others,” Spirit cryptically tells Bear.

Last season ended with these friends stranded in California. Season 3 will pick up as they figure out a way back home.

The need and desire to see Black, Brown, Asian and Indigenous people on screen has yet to be completely fulfilled by Hollywood, but there has been a recent uptick in Aapi and Bipoc representation on screen. According to a 2021 Nielsen study titled “Being Seen on Screen,” data from the 2021 to 2021 television season showed 78 of the top 1,500 shows had some racial, ethnic or sexual orientation diversity.

And people want more representation, because not only does it increase the self-esteem for people of marginalized groups, reduce stereotypes and support the wants of viewers of color, it helps accurately portray the world and the people in it.

The Sentinel Awards returned on Tuesday night at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theater for its first in-person ceremony in three years, honoring 12 shows whose storytelling tackled powerful and timely topics.

The event, hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown, recognized Reservation Dogs, Abbott Elementary, Dopesick, Hacks, The White Lotus, A Million Little Things, Upload, The First Lady, Resident Alien, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, Never Have I Ever and Harlem for their handling of topics including racism, mental health and abortion.

FX has officially confirmed its critically acclaimed half-hour comedy Reservation Dogs has been renewed for season three. The renewal announcement arrives just days ahead of the premiere of season two’s finale.

The award-winning – and groundbreaking – series was created by executive producers Sterlin Harjo (Love and Fury) and Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows).

“Reservation Dogs continues its remarkable run with critics, fans, and awards all recognizing the singular brilliance of the series created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi,” said Nick Grad, President, Original Programming, FX. “FX is proud to join with our partners at Hulu to order a third season featuring the amazing cast and all of the artists who deliver one of the most original, engaging, and funny shows on television.”

The news comes as the critically-acclaimed series is still airing its second season. Season 2 will conclude on Sept. 28. The third season is expected to debut in 2023.

"Reservation Dogs" isn't a show that can be put in a box. There's no ceiling to the creativity. It can go to many places and explore many emotions, but actor Sarah Podemski sums it up rather well when she says co-creator Sterlin Harjo's work is a "conversation." He's making a show people not only want to watch, but also talk about, which is a hard TV series to find in a world of "content."

Harjo and all involved aren't making "content," though. They're telling stories that need to be told. One of Podemski and Harjo's previous collaborations, "Mekko," even tackles similar themes and questions found in the riveting FX series. The freshman season set a high bar, but Podemski believes season 2 surpasses it.

FX’s “Reservation Dogs” continues to be one of the funniest shows on TV, breaking storytelling ground with its largely Indigenous cast and crew.

It is representation that both Native Americans and non-Natives alike have been craving to see on TV — multi-dimensional roles within the Indigenous community.

This week’s episode, “Wide Net,” is written and directed by Indigenous director Tazbah Rose Chavez. It follows Sarah Podemski’s Rita, who takes a girls’ trip with Bev (Jana Schmieding), Teenie (Tamara Podemski) and Natalie (Nathalie Standingcloud) to the Indian Health Services Conference, and their attempts to snag men and bust moves at the conference dance floor.

Exclusive: Sarah Podemski (Reservation Dogs) and Rosa Blasi (The Thundermans) have signed on to star alongside Andrew Dice Clay and Jordan Johnson-Hinds in Quiver Distribution’s basketball drama Warrior Strong, which Shane Belcourt (Red Rover) is directing from Dan Gordon’s (Wyatt Earp) script.

The film currently in production in Canada centers on basketball protege and egocentric Bilal Irving (Johnson-Hinds), who is asked by school principal Jules (Podemski) to serve as the assistant coach of his former high school team, the Dumont Warriors, alongside Coach Avery Schmidt (Clay). Bilal subsequently learns that true coaching involves far more than simply teaching the game. The question is, will this rag-tag team of misfits have what it takes to put aside their differences and become Warrior Strong?

Blasi will play Vicki, who runs the local diner and slowly helps Coach Schmidt out of grieving for his deceased wife, prompting him to move on with a new relationship.

Jumping right in. Hopefully, I'm not being too presumptuous here, but it feels like a much-needed surge of mainstream Indigenous representation on screen right now, which is awesome. How does it feel for you to be at the forefront of that?

Yeah, I think that's what it's proven to be.

Over the last 30 or 40 years, there have been some incredibly successful Indigenous-led projects. But it seems that we haven't been able to sustain that energy.

The best thing about FX’s Reservation Dogs is that depending on the episode, any of the show’s four stars — Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai, Lane Factor, Paulina Alexis — could be front and center, as each of the young, previously unknown actors has already proven their ability to anchor installments with creators Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi’s distinctive blend of quirky humor and earnest heart.

The worst thing about FX’s Reservation Dogs, at least when approaching the show through an awards-obsessed prism, is that it’s a pure ensemble, one uninterested in inviting easy “lead”/”supporting” classifications and one without a single breakout performance; there are four.

There comes a moment in the pilot of FX’s new comedy series, “Reservation Dogs,” when you realize something special is happening. It’s while series lead Bear (D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai) is talking to a dream representation of his indigenous ancestors, who tell about him staring down General Custer… kinda. From far away. The entire story culminates in hilarity when one speaker mentions that he didn’t die in battle, but because his horse stepped in a gopher hole and squashed him. The scene, both surreal and rooted in history, feels like something co-creator Taika Waititi would create, and yet it could only come to fruition in a world crafted by Sterlin Harjo, who based the series around his own experiences.

“Reservation Dogs” follows the lives of four Native teens living in Oklahoma. After their best friend’s suicide, the quartet is determined to leave home and reestablish the group in California.

Bear Smallhill writhes on the ground, the victim of a shooting. His vision blurs, he floats up into the sky, and when he descends, the Rural Oklahoma teen is looking at the ghost of a Native American warrior named William Knife-Man, who died in the Battle of Little Bighorn. “Looks as though you’ve tasted the white man’s lead,” William suggests, before dispensing various bits of wisdom, telling Bear, “We died for our people. We died for our land. What are you gonna do? What are you gonna fight for?...

It’s rare to see a series that conjures up a sense of place quite as well as does FX’s new “Reservation Dogs.” The series, set in and shot in Oklahoma with a cast, set of directors and writers’ room made up entirely of Indigenous people, lets us into a world television too rarely goes. The title reservation, a rural place where the only fun is what one makes for oneself, is a place our characters are keen to escape. But it’s also a community where the incidental magic of connection lies around every corner. This show’s ambitions in its first four episodes are narrower than those of FX’s great “Atlanta,” but there’s a similar willingness to push into the crannies of the American landscape and find moments of character worth exploring.
