“Squid Game” doesn’t return for its long-awaited second season until December 26, but on September 30 the series released a new teaser highlighting Gong Yoo‘s character who recruits unsuspecting players to the deadly game. We watch him get ready in the morning. Then he gets off the train, checks his watch, and holds up those red and blue cards, asking directly to the camera, “Sir. Would you like to play a game with me?” Watch the sinister teaser above.
Gong Yoo is indeed back for the new season of the series. Lee Jung-jae is also returning to his lead role as Seong Gi-hun. Lee Byung-hun is back as the overseer of the game, and Wi Ha-jun reprises his role as police officer Hwang Jun-ho. Oh my goodness! The Squid Game season 2 teaser is only one minute long, but it has me so hyped to get back into this nail-biting world and begin the game once again. And Player 456, aka Seong Gi-hun, is back in the game as well. What are his motives? We'll get into some theories, but first check out the video released by Netflix.
As revealed above, Gi-hun suits up once again to get back into the game. Now where we left off at the end of season 1, he had vowed to get revenge on those controlling the game. So I'm assuming he wants to find a way to shut it down. Though according to the synopsis, it's been three years since his bittersweet victory. So are those still his motives?
Plus, we see the Front Man himself show up at Gi-hun's door. Why does he want Player 456 back in the game?...

Squid Game shattered all expectations when it premiered on Netflix back in 2021, quickly becoming the most-watched season of television in the streamer's history. The Korean-language drama told the story of Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a desperate man who entered into a competition where he and other contestants competed in children's games for a life-changing amount of money—the snag being that if they lost, they died.
The show was a phenomenon, resonating with viewers around the globe. Even though the first season wrapped up neatly, it was always a foregone conclusion we were going to get more. Netflix has even launched a gameshow, Squid Game: The Challenge, based on the series. Whether that's missing the point of the show or not, I leave to you to decide.
Now, at long last, we have a new teaser for Squid Game season 2. Seong Gi-hun is back in the game:

Netflix recently announced a return date - and end date - for mega-popular dystopian drama series, Squid Game, and the streamer finally debuted a proper teaser trailer (though it's still only a minute long) for the second season during Geeked Week.
The promo begins with a clearly on-edge (and who wouldn't be?) Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) pulling a gun on a masked figure at his door, as we cut to the winner of the first game joining a new group of participants for another life-or-death contest. This time, though, Gi-hun has a very different objective: Revenge.
When we last saw Seong Gi-hun, he had emerged as the only survivor of the lethal games, which saw 456 contestants in various degrees of severe financial trouble put their lives on the line for the chance of winning a ₩45.6 billion (roughly €30m) prize.
In the final episode, Gi-hun decides not to travel to America to reunite with his family,...

To be frank, the extremely brief (and very vague) teaser trailer for "Squid Game" season 2 wasn't enough to get us jazzed about the long-awaited return of Netflix's most popular show of all time — especially since it's been three dang years since the show originally premiered. Everyone who watched it back then has moved on with their lives, so while Netflix can obviously promote the heck out of this by using its algorithm to plop it back on every subscriber's home screen the day the new season drops, you have to wonder if anyone at the streamer is nervous about a majority of viewers straight up forgetting the finer points of the show after all this time.
Thankfully, a new trailer has finally arrived, providing a more in-depth look at the return to the candy-colored, late-stage capitalist hellscape we all visited in 2021. Here's the official synopsis for season 2:

Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk's Netflix series about hard-up people competing in deadly games in hopes of winning a grand prize, was an absolute smash hit when the first season dropped on Netflix in 2021. With 1.65 billion views in the first month after release, it's officially the most popular series in the history of the streamer.
It's taken a while to get to season 2, but it's finally happening. A bunch of new episodes will drop on December 26, with a third and final season to follow in 2025. We have had to wait a few years for the follow-up (with that strange Squid Game reality show to entertain us in the meantime), but Netflix is making up for it by giving us a one-two punch of Squid Game goodness this year and next.

Netflix has finally announced a return date - and end date - for Squid Game.
The first season proved to be very popular (it's actually gone on to become the streamer's most successful show of all time), so it didn't exactly come as a major surprise when creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that a second season of the harrowing South Korean dystopic drama was in development.
Now, we have an official premiere date - along with word that the series will return for a third and final run.
The announcement comes via a brief teaser, which shows a new group of contestants taking part in one of the lethal games on an Olympics-style track. As players begin to fall, the camera zooms in to reveal the sinister sight of the game's Front Man and his masked guards, or "Pink Soldiers," looking on.

The Summer Olympics may be well underway in Paris, but the real games — Squid Game that is — are heading our way this winter. In a surprise drop teaser for the second season of writer-director-producer Hwang Dong-hyuk satirical Netflix K-Drama, the streaming giant confirmed that the Lee Jung-jae starring death-match gameshow series will return on Boxing Day this year, 26 December. But whilst the return of the global phenomenon after three long years off our screens is incredibly exciting, the new release date announcement also brought with it the bittersweet news that though a third season of the show has been greenlit and confirmed to land on Netflix in 2025, it will also be the Hunger Games-meets-Takeshi's Castle style saga's final chapter. Check out the teaser below:

Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway.
But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.

On your marks ... get ready ... "Squid Game" season 2 has officially gotten a release date, and thanks to Netflix (via their Tudum site), we know that the games begin again on December 26, 2024. A very interesting date, you might think; sure, people home for the holidays will all be looking for something to watch, but I'm not sure if this show qualifies as feel-good family entertainment. It seems Netflix is being a little canny with this choice, but hey, if David Fincher can make "The Feel-Bad Movie of Christmas" for cinemas, can't director Hwang Dong-hyuk do the same for TV?
The first season of "Squid Game" was a massive hit upon its premiere in September of 2021, becoming the service's most-watched show ever, and that popularity has only made the long wait for this second season that much more difficult.
