It's been five months since the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy released on Netflix. The streaming channel made all twenty episodes available, allowing fans an epic binge, but things have been silent since then. Netflix has made no mention of a season three renewal, despite outspoken fans who have undertaken yet another campaign.
Now, the creators of Prodigy, Kevin and Dan Hageman, are writing a live-action Lego Ninjago movie for Universal. [via Screenrant] This isn't a surprise to fans of the Ninjago television series as the brothers were the executive producers and writers for the first nine seasons. So why wouldn't they jump at the chance to write the script for a live-action movie? And it really is good news for them. For Prodigy fans? Not so much.

Star Trek: Prodigy is an exceptional animated series. Not only is it Star Trek-centric with episodic storylines interwoven with season long arcs, it's a masterful way of teaching new viewers about the franchise. A non-Star Trek viewer could start watching season one of Prodigy, and, by the end of the season two, they'd have a strong knowledge of the Federation and Starfleet, which are key to understanding Star Trek.
But some people don't like animation no matter how good it is. Some fans hesitate to give it a chance because they don't feel it's canon even though they've been assured that it is. They want to see it in live-action. They want to see actual actors and not just hear their voices. That's understandable. You like what you like.
Right now, Prodigy has been successful at Netflix with all forty episodes available for viewing, but we don't have...

Exclusive: Beverly Hills-based management and production company, Underground, has bolstered its team with the addition of Aaron Folbe as Manager, Deadline has learned.
Folbe joins after a little over two years at Industry Entertainment, where he served as Lit Coordinator. In his new role, he will continue to focus on supporting and developing the careers of writers, directors, and performers.
Folbe’s new role comes shortly following a major win for his clients Adam and Daniel Cooper, who in June sold their short story “I Used To Eat Brains, Now I Eat Kale” to Amazon MGM Studios for feature development, with Ryan Gosling and his production company General Admission attached to produce. Folbe took on the Cooper twins as clients before his time at Industry Entertainment — while serving as an assistant at Artists First — and closed the deal in between his exit from that company and his Underground hire. “Star Trek: Prodigy” dropped its second season on Netflix on July 1, and series star Kate Mulgrew is holding out hope the animated series will be renewed for Season 3.
Fresh off her appearance at the “Prodigy” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Mulgrew said the energy in the panel’s ballroom was “electric.”
“I had a full auditorium on Sunday morning for the panel,” she said. “They were thrilled. They were delighted! They’re desperate for this kind of television. I don’t think there’s anything quite like it on television now, because it’s teaching ‘Star Trek’ to a new generation to young children in an entirely novel way.”

This Star Trek: Prodigy article contains spoilers.
Even though it got seven full seasons, Star Trek: Voyager still has a reputation as lesser Trek. However, in the decades since Captain Janeway brought her crew back home from the Delta Quadrant in 2001, Voyager has become a fan-favorite. So beloved is Voyager that Trekkies have thrilled to see the return of some of the cast, including Seven of Nine and Tuvok on Picard.
More than Picard or Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy has functioned as a Voyager sequel series. The story begins with a bunch of kids in the Delta Quadrant finding a ship once captained by Chakotay; Janeway (as both an Admiral and a hologram) plays a major role in the series; and the Doctor joined the main crew in the latest season.
Yet, despite all of these connections, Prodigy creators Kevin and Dan Hageman don’t want to limit themselves to just Voyager.

More than four years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books. Last year, Øvredal confirmed that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 was still in the works and a script has been written, the project had just been slowed down by the pandemic, the making of his Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and the Hollywood strikes. We heard in December that writers/producers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman were fighting to get the sequel made… but now they have given a disappointing update to the folks at Collider: the sequel has stalled.

In a surprising turn of events for Star Trek fans, the animated series “Star Trek: Prodigy” has found a new home on Netflix following its cancellation by Paramount+. This move marks a significant shift in the streaming landscape for the beloved sci-fi franchise.
The global streaming giant Netflix has acquired the rights to “Star Trek: Prodigy” for the United States and most international territories, as part of a deal with CBS Studios. This acquisition comes after Paramount+’s decision in June to remove several original series, including “Prodigy,” from its platform as part of a cost-cutting measure.
“Star Trek: Prodigy” follows a group of young aliens who must learn to work together while navigating the galaxy in a commandeered starship. The series, which targets a younger audience, represents a departure from the typical Star Trek demographic and was initially developed for Nickelodeon before moving to Paramount+.

The second season of "Star Trek: Prodigy" is still awaiting a release date in North America, although French readers should be able to view it right now on the region-specific France.TV. The story of the cancelation of "Prodigy" is sad for Trekkies, as the kid-centric animated series, created by Kevin and Dan Hageman, was just growing into its own and emerging as a proper "Star Trek" series.
The premise was fun: in an unknown and distant part of the galaxy, a group of teenage aliens -- fleeing slavery in a mine -- discover an abandoned Starfleet vessel called the U.S.S. Protostar. On board, they meet a holographic version of Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), who assumes the teens are Starfleet cadets and require tutelage. The teens are hotheaded, feisty, and brooding in the way that teens tend to be, but Janeway teaches them to operate as a crew and mature as individuals.

After gathering 33,000 signatures in a petition on Change.org and raising money via GoFundMe, the fans contracted a plane to fly a “Save Star Trek Prodigy” banner over the Los Angeles offices Amazon, Hulu and Apple — including circling for 10 minutes over the Netflix offices on Sunset Boulevard.
Co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to praise the effort: “This is incredible. We owe these Trek fans a pint and our lifetime devotion. Blessed to have people like all of you in our stratosphere.” Fans also joined co-executive producer Aaron Waltke and voice actress Bonnie Gordon outside of the Netflix building.

Six seasons and a movie! Before Community made that phrase its mantra, it belonged to Star Trek… sorta. The release of The Motion Picture vindicated fans of The Original Series, who only grew in number after the show’s cancellation after three seasons in 1969. So successful were those films that the Star Trek: The Next Generation films were a foregone conclusion, with Star Trek: Generations going into production before the seventh and final season finished airing.
Outside of Tos and Tng, no other Trek series has gone onto the big screen, and Star Trek: Prodigy seems the least likely to break that streak. After all, the series was reportedly canceled and was ignominiously removed from Paramount+, the so-called “Home of Star Trek.” And yet, the show’s producers told attendees at Star Trek: Las Vegas that hope is not gone for the plucky animated series.

Nearly three and a half years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books… but don’t let the extended silence stir up any fears that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been cancelled. While speaking with IGN, Øvredal – whose Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter reaches theatres on August 11th – confirmed that the sequel is still in development!
Øvredal said, “We have a story. We have a script. We’ve been working on the script as late as last year and even slightly into this year. The process obviously stopped with the strike – but it’s alive, for sure. Covid and then [The Last Voyage of the Demeter] eating up two years of...

It’s now been four years since the release of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the long awaited feature film adaptation of the ’80s/’90s books written by Alvin Schwartz. The film was a success at the box office for Lionsgate, scaring up $104 million worldwide, so why haven’t we gotten a sequel yet? A follow-up was announced, but to date hasn’t come to fruition.
Speaking with IGN this week, André Øvredal (The Last Voyage of the Demeter) confirms that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 is still in active development at this time.

"Star Trek: Prodigy," which just wrapped its first season on Paramount+, takes place in a distant corner of the "Stat Trek" universe that hasn't yet been explored by the Federation. A group of teenagers, fleeing the man who has enslaved them in a mine, discover a derelict Starfleet vessel called the U.S.S. Protostar. On board, they are instructed by a hologram of Capt. Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) on how to operate the ship, but also how to work together as a Starfleet crew might. The teens have to work through their anxieties and inexperience, but find that they do work well as a team. Their goal is to return to Federation space, while solving the mystery of their abandoned vessel.

Star Trek has endured since 1966 largely in part to the creators refusing to speak down to their audiences. Whereas “The Cage”, the first pilot shot in 1964, was deemed “too cerebral” by NBC execs, the show that made it on air rarely stopped being thought-provoking. When the three season mission ended, its next iteration was on Saturday morning television, where, once again, the writers and production team refused to dumb things down.

"Star Trek: Prodigy" returns to complete its first season on October 27, 2022, and the teenage crew of the U.S.S. Protostar has already been through a lot. After having escaped the evil Diviner (John Noble) and freed hundreds of teen slaves, the main characters have all donned Starfleet uniforms and have set about their mission to return to Federation space. They have learned, however, that the Protostar has been armed with a weapon that would wipe out the Federation if returned, forcing them to enact a few benevolent Starfleet-like missions while also avoiding Starfleet pursuers. They receive the bulk of their guidance from a hologram of Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), who has become an empathetic mentor/parent for them. In a twist, their primary pursuer is the real-life Vice Admiral Janeway (also Mulgrew), who would rather see them apprehended.
"Prodigy" bears a lot of resemblances to the 1995 series "Star Trek: Voyager.

As the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Prodigy boldly goes where no Star Trek show has gone before — children’s television — its first season still has plenty of rewards in store for older Trekkers. For starters, the midseason trailer — which executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman unveiled today, Saturday, October 8, at New York Comic Con — shows the real Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway (voiced by Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek: Voyager) pursuing the young Starfleet wannabes who’ve taken the U.S.S. Protostar. “The real me is hunting us?” the Janeway hologram asks Dal (Brett Gray) in the trailer. “Good luck with that.” But attendees at the Nycc panel — which featured Mulgrew, Gray, and costar Jameela Jamil as special guests — also learned that Ronny Cox will reprise his Star Trek: The Next Generation role with a recurring part on Prodigy, with his character, Edward Jellico, now an admiral. However, showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman excitedly tease that the next batch of ten episodes are going to take the show in a whole new direction.

Janeway and Chakotay. Captain and Commander. Starfleet and ex-Maquis. One of the biggest “could have been” romances in Star Trek history. The early seasons of Star Trek Voyager certainly toyed with the idea, the two getting stranded on an alien world and having to live together for three months in the episode ‘Resolutions.’ However the romance never came to fruition and Chakotay was oddly paired with Seven of Nine just before the end of Voyager’s run.
A little thing like canon has never stopped fans and even the Voyager relaunch novels in the mid 2000s quickly broke Chakotay and Seven of Nine up. Sure that isn’t canon anymore but it just proves that fans weren’t satisfied with the romance Voyager proper gave us for Chakotay. There are still people out there, hoping beyond hope,...

The Star Trek franchise is among the most venerable of all 20th century entertainment properties. Having already birthed nine TV series and 13 feature films since its initially short-lived debut run in the 1960s, the thinking person’s space opera has mapped out the furthest reaches of the galaxy and all points in between. But now, it is prepared to boldly breach a demographic that it has not specifically attempted to tap before: kids.
Driven by showrunners Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman, as well as director Ben Hibon, Nickelodeon’s animated “Star Trek: Prodigy” will introduce a fresh cast of protagonists, as well as animated versions of legacy characters, in particular the “Star Trek: Voyager” fan favorite Kathryn Janeway, voiced by returning actor Kate Mulgrew. “Star Trek: Prodigy” will first roll out on Paramount Plus later this month, before heading into Nickelodeon’s regular programming.

To introduce the world of Star Trek to a new generation of Trekkies, Star Trek: Prodigy enlisted the help of 24th century Starfleet officer Kathryn Janeway and original actress Kate Mulgrew.

Today, Paramount released the opening credits for the upcoming series (complete with a score from Star Trek 2009‘s Michael Giacchino), and it is Voyager through and through. Check it out…
