The Dwelling is also known as Bed of the Dead, and the poster is a loving homage to the Evil Dead. Promising stuff from Uncork’d Entertainment, which harks back to that “so bad it is almost good but isn’t” review I did of The Demonologist (sadly it is nothing like the Evil Dead).
Here we kick off with an old-timey satanic lynching before coming back to the present for a police controller casually explaining there has been a fire at a sex club. Jesus, some days it is tough being a cop. It is the ruffled hair, the leather jacket, the hip flask and an old photo of a girl that gets me through...

It was Shed of the Dead earlier this week. Now, it is director Jeff Maher's directorial debut Bed of the Dead. This film, according to Black Fawn Distribution, is a strong entry in the haunted furniture sub-genre. When two couples find themselves on this antique, they will see visions of death! Bed of the Dead stars: Colin Price (The Heretics), Alyssa King (Berkshire Country), Gwenlyn Cumyn, Dennis Andre and George Krissa. This title just release on Digital platforms this week, with another Bluray/DVD combo coming out this June. A preview of the film's latest releases are hosted here. Maher has spoken about Bed of the Dead, recently. He says of his first film and its recent home entertainment release: "it took a few years but, finally this weird little flick we made is available for your viewing pleasure." Part crime thriller and part ghost story, I’ll Take Your Dead is like a Joe Lansdale novel that’s occasionally interrupted by Lucio Fulci. It’s the latest Shout! Studios release from producer/director Chad Archibald, whose list of credits include The Drownsman and Bite, and it’s his most confident and assured feature to date.
Aidan Devine plays William, a reclusive farmer known among the criminal community as The Candy Butcher because he moonlights as a disposer of bodies, cutting them up into pieces and dissolving them in an acid bath. His young daughter, Gloria (Ava Preston), having grown up around death her entire life, sees the ghosts of her father’s “work” around the house. When a group of killers drop off a body that isn’t what they think it is, William and Gloria have their quiet life turned upside down, possibly for good.

Director Chad Archibald first came to my attention with the slasher that isn’t half as popular as it should be, The Drownsman (it could easily be an ongoing franchise). He followed that up with the intriguing Ejecta and then the gross-out body horror of Bite. The Heretics is the latest offering from a director that is not afraid to shake things up.
The Heretics takes what is a simple story of a woman being kidnapped and turns it completely on its head. What we also get are cults, suicides, crazy girlfriends and some sort of demon. That’s quite a lot to pack into an hour and twenty five minutes. But pack it in it does and the time flies by… Pretty much jumping straight into...

Bed of the Dead begins with a fun premise; two young couples spend the night in a sex club to indulge in some four-way shenanigans. Before anyone can barely get a shirt off, however, they find themselves stuck on a haunted antique bed where getting off now means a horrible, and delightfully gruesome, death.
Director Jeff Maher’s script does something I wouldn’t have expected, and that’s make these characters interesting. Maybe it’s because this is a Canadian movie, but our four bedridden victims are actually likable. Many horror movies confuse unpleasantness for dramatic. If the characters shout at each other enough then that must be interesting, right? But Bed of the Dead attempts to make the characters real people with fears and faults and even a little humor.

Until now the list of movies about killer beds could be counted on one one-fingered hand, but while 1977’s Death Bed: The Bed That Eats has dominated the sub-sub-subgenre for decades it has finally gotten some company. Happily for those who’ve seen that earlier film and wished it was more focused on wetting the bed with blood, Jeff Maher’s Bed of the Dead is here to give you just that.
Virgil (Colin Price) is a cop with baggage. He’s just returned from a leave of absence after being cleared of a shooting incident, but while he’s legally off the hook he suspects he’s guilty all the same. His first case back immediately takes his mind off his own problems as it presents him with numerous issues of its own. Five dead bodies have been discovered in a local sex club, specifically...

No, this is not a remake of 1977’s Death Bed: The Bed That Eats. Yes, this is a Wholly new horror story about mysterious deaths that occur because of a deadly connection to bedroom furniture. Bed Of The Dead is a real, 100% serious thriller produced by the same team responsible for Bite, so that should clue you in on the expected amount of zaniness here. Yet, I guarantee it’ll be infinitely straighter than you’re expecting, as writers Cody Calahan and Jeff Maher spend zero time fucking around with generics. This is a uniquely twisted slice of freakishly-fresh horror that makes its bed and kills in it too, never abandoning sinister chills for anything cheap, cheesy or gimmicky. This is “Wtf” horror, even with such a ridiculous premise.

A new trailer has been released for Bed of the Dead. A co-production between Black Fawn Films and Breakthrough Entertainment, Bed of the Dead will have its World Premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, in Montreal. In the film, a group of friends find themselves trapped on an antique bed. They are plagued by hallucinations, which bring horrifying visions. Written by Cody Calahan (Antisocial 2) and Jeff Maher, the film stars: Colin Price, Alysa King, Gwenlyn Cumyn and more. The film's first trailer is available here. The trailer shows a few dire situations. One character meets a bloody end, in an early scene. Another character is burnt to death. Meanwhile, the four friends fall asleep in the haunted bed. And quickly, they experience strange visions. While the film requires a much better movie poster, the trailer shows bright settings and interesting, bloody scenarios. A bloodbath on the Bed of the Dead.

Director: Cody Calahan. Writers: Cody Calahan, Chad Archibald, Jeff Maher. Cast: Michelle Mylett, Josette Halpert, Stephen Bogaert. Cody Calahan and Chad Archibald of Black Fawn Films reunite in the sequel to 2013's Antisocial. This viewer is not a fan of the first film, so we already got off on the wrong foot but, having enjoyed Black Fawn's recent release, Bite, there was still hope for redemption. Unfortunately, even with some great atmospheric shots and some decent gore, Antisocial 2, much like the first, is simply uninteresting. While the message that social media turns people into zombies has potential, the concept is overthought and under-executed thus rendering it powerless. Michelle Mylett as Sam in Antisocial's final scene. The plot in the second film is driven by an update being installed on the social media site, The Social Redroom. Director Cody Calahan and writing partner Chad Archibald return with the next chapter in Sam's fight against the Redroom Virus. Spawned from a mysterious social-networking website, it has infected most of the populace, turning them into mindless killers; the few survivors are divided between the uninfected and those who have been freed of the virus' influence via impromptu brain surgery....

Fantasia Film Festival 2013: Antisocial Tackles our Complex Relationship with Technology (Interview)
Antisocial is the feature length debut for directing and writing team Cody Calahan and Chad Archibald. In spite of their youthful appearances, they are not new to the Canadian film industry or Fantasia, having produced over ten short and feature length films – including Fantasia fan favourite Monster Brawl which screened at the fest in 2011. Working with Black Fawn Distribution and Breakthrough Entertainment, they have pulled together their resources and talent in order to bring Antisocial to the screen. For them, nothing was more important than having this project ready in time for Fantasia, and they are thrilled that their film will be making its world debut at their favourite festival. They are even more thrilled because both of the film’s screenings quickly sold out.
