The London-born Leicester-bred son of Barbadian parents who came to Britain in the 1950s, actor, writer, poet and storyteller Victor Richards has been perfectly positioned throughout his life to observe and commentate on the trials and tribulations, joys and sorrows of British West Indian culture for seven decades.
After his experiences of being a model and choreographer, Victor attended Next Stage Adult Education Sandfield Drama College in Nottingham in the early 90s. It was through this experience that his acting and writing talents really found their wings and a hard-earned break enabled him to perform his first one-man production Streets Paved with Gold at the Nottingham Playhouse.
The play Streets Paved with Gold has been touring to delighted audiences in the UK and international venues for 25 years. This theatre play is now transformed into a feature film entitled Streets Paved With Gold which will be released early 2022. Victor is one of executive producers, co-writer and lead actor for the film.
Victor has also written and performed two further plays 'Return to the Caribbean' and 'Children of the First Generation'. His book 'Poetry Trilogy' published in 2008 (Windrush 60th Anniversary), based on all three plays, is a powerful historical and educational tool. Also Victor produced an unique poetry production 'I Spy through the World's Eye' which focuses on global issues. His drama/poetry workshop for children and adults is very unique and highly in demand.
His spoken word with reggae music album illusion - Streets Paved with Gold was released to celebrate Windrush 70th Anniversary 2018, the music video of the title track 'Streets Paved with Gold' was nominated for the British Urban Film Festival Awards 2017. In October 2018, Victor received BEFFTA Awards (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts Award) Legend Honour for his long time outstanding contribution in the entertainment industry.
