Freda Hu
- Actress
- Writer
- Producer
Freda Hu is a first-generation Chinese-American actor known for her portrayal of sassy, smart, and mischievous characters. She loves fashion and birds.
As a child, she wanted to act and write more than anything else. Dismissed as childhood fantasy, she didn't pursue either, at least not openly. Although she would learn in time that "what do you want to be when you grow up?" was a trick question, she found refuge in telling stories and putting on plays for imaginary audiences.
After graduating with a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 2019, Freda was fully intent on continuing with grad school. But then the pandemic hit, and along with it, an opportunity to reevaluate her life. Quarantined in her 200 sq. ft. apartment with her cockroach roommates for company, she finally gathered the courage to leave her old life behind and reconnected with the simplicity and joy of creativity she had loved as a child.
Not limiting her creativity to acting, Freda has recently ventured into screenwriting. She's excited to be in pre-production for an offbeat and surreal comedy/thriller short she co-wrote with her friend Cinthya Rey. More details coming soon...
"Growing up with immigrant parents, I believed there was only one path to success. It led me to question a lot about who I was and what I wanted and it was through film/TV where I was able to see so much more was possible. I love telling stories about self-discovery that empower us to own what makes us unique. That's why I'm an actor." ~Freda Hu
