Before being accepted into the American Film Institute Conservatory graduate program in Los Angeles, Steve worked as a journalist (Washington Asia Times), VO artist (Library of Congress) and an educator in Washington DC.
After graduating from the American Film Institute (with an MFA in Screenwriting), he was recruited by Sony Pictures Entertainment to work as a Story Editor & Junior Acquisitions Executive for the Worldwide Acquisitions team where he received invaluable experience in story & business development, feature film packaging, domestic & international distribution, theatrical marketing & product acquisition. He helped with the development of film titles including Terminator: Salvation, The Book of Eli, Faster, Django Unchained, War Room, Don't Breathe, the Insidious horror movie franchise, Manchester by The Sea, Robot & Frank, The Grudge (reboot), Whiplash, The Call, Attack the Block, and many others (including TV releases - The Tudors & House of Cards).
His tenure at Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions was followed with a promotion to Story Analyst & Creative Executive at Screen Gems where he was involved in the development and release of theatrical titles like Sam Raimi's adaptation of James Herbert's novel - The Unholy. Before these he helped develop Possession of Hannah Grace, Brightburn, Searching & Slender Man, while being heavily involved in generating content strategies that attracted financiers & talent to specific projects for the studio.
Apart from his corporate life in which he worked on content that garnered well over $1.5B in profit, Steve is also a professional screenwriter having worked as a freelance staff writer for the hit CBS TV series Hawaii Five-O over a number of seasons and has a pilot, a number of feature films and a creature feature going out through his literary managers in Los Angeles.
Over the many years inside the film and TV industry, Steve's forged valuable, lasting professional and personal relationships while honing business development and creative skills. His extensive Rolodex includes studio execs, executive producers, filmmakers, sales agents, talent managers, film financiers & agents.
Although perhaps his proudest achievements have been his Professorial work in the Film Department at American University's School of Communications in Washington DC, and his years of mentoring work he provided for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles Program. Being able to guide underrepresented kids toward a life-changing decision on whether to attend college or not has been paramount in his growth as a professional.
