A few weeks ago on the newsletter, I pondered the evolution of the “25 New Faces,” and posited the idea that it’s more than just a list that is published annually. I wrote that the list takes on a life of its own, that “it does not stop after the Filmmaker Summer issue hits newsstands. When Scott and I spend nights and weekends watching screeners and reading scripts through all of April, May and June, we’re looking for exciting creative voices that we think are the future of independent film. Once the list is done, that excitement has not dissipated; it prevails. As do many of the friendships with filmmakers we establish along the way.”

Diamond Jubilee celebrations kicked off with a 21-gun salute in Portsmouth, Southern England. A four day series of events to celebrate 60 years of Britain's Queen Elizabeth being on the throne started with warship Hms Diamond firing into Portsmouth harbour, in Southern England yesterday (01.06.12). The display was accompanied by a diamond formation flypast of four naval helicopters. It's times like this when we here in the States couldn't be more jealous of our friends across the pond. One of the best damned horror film festivals in the world, The Film4 FrightFest, has announced its full slate of films, and all we can say is ... wow.

From Thursday 25 August to Monday 29 August, the UK’s premiere event for horror fans will be at the Empire Cinema in London’s Leicester Square to present 37 films on two screens. Empire 1 will house the main event while the Discovery strand will play in Empire 4. There are eleven countries represented, with seven world premieres and a record-equalling twenty UK or European premieres.
