Dust has created a lot of short film and video content over the years. We've shared a lot of them with you. Now they've produced a series that I think a lot of you might be interested in checking out. It's a sci-fi noir series called Automation that set in an alternate 1930s universe where robots, known as automatons, have been integrated into society. The lead robot character, Carl, is also played by Doug Jones. Here's the synopsis:
In an alternate 1930's Prohibition-era New York City, it's not liquor that is outlawed but the future production of highly sentient robots known as automatons. Automata follows former NYPD detective turned private eye Sam Regal and his incredibly smart automaton partner, Carl Swangee. Together, they work to solve the case and understand each other in this dystopian America.Putting a science fiction twist on the classic hard-boiled detective drama, Automata explores a...

Van Alan's sci-fi noir series Automata has been a labor of love for the filmmaker. Based on the popular Penny Arcade web-comic characters, Automata follows private detective Sam Regal (Basil Harris from NBC's Grimm) and his automaton partner Carl Swangee (Doug Jones from Star Trek: Discovery, Hellboy) after they're hired to spy on a prominent businessman's spouse. The setting is New York City, in an alternate Prohibition America. In Van Alan's alternate reality, rather than liquor being outlawed the production of highly sentient robots, known as "automatons", becomes increasingly prohibited. It's a nifty concept. The series pilot is having its world premiere tonight, Thursday, June 29, at the 2017 Seriesfest with a second public screening on Saturday, July 1st....

Rarely do campy films actually deliver on the promise of being genuinely entertaining; often times it seems like they’re composed primarily of obscure inside-jokes or sweeping generalizations that seem trite and bland by the time they reach their audience via the film itself. With this said, Chris Diani’s film Creatures from the Pink Lagoon manages to both amuse and entertain in a genuine way that both pokes fun at gay cultural stereotypes while also having a very affectionate wink-wink-nudge-nudge attitude of someone who appreciates the clichés for what they are...
