MICHAEL HAMISH BUDD is an Award-winning Australian film Actor, Director, and Producer. Michael has directed and acted alongside actors who hold PRIMETIME EMMY, GOLDEN-GLOBE & ACCTA AWARDS.
In 2023, Eliza Godman painted Michael Budd in a portrait named "Remembering" for entry to the Archibald Prize. In the portrait, Budd is in a director's chair with his grandmother looking over his shoulder. Eliza Godman has been the winner of AFI Best Costume Design for her work on Baz Luhrmann's film Australia, Michael met Eliza on the set of a commercial, and they connected and decided to work together.
Michael is best known for playing Esmael alongside Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Sigourney Weaver in The Cold Light of Day, A film that also starred Bruce Willis. His first break on a motion picture came when he was asked to body double and stand-in for Laurence Fishburne on Matrix 2/3- for over 200 shoot days, the directors known as Lilly Wachowski, Lana Wachowski saw something in Michael and cast him as Zion Controller.
Michael received nationwide coverage and international press as the Director/Producer of Ruby's Choice, which starred two-time Golden Globe winner Jane Seymour O.B.E. and Jacqueline McKenzie.
On September 24, 2023, at the Burbank International Film Festival (BIFF), Michael Budd triumphed in two significant categories, winning Best Foreign Film and Best Feature Film with Ruby's Choice. The prestigious event, attended by a star-studded audience, coincided with the honoring of the legendary filmmaker Tim Burton. "Ruby's Choice" overcame massive logistics deviations, production cuts, and an entire state change for filming, all in the middle of the pandemic. Michael Budd demonstrated incredible strength, fearless leadership, and overwhelming resilience to see the film's completion during the whole project.
On the 7th of March 2022, Ruby's Choice premiered in Santa Barbara, California, at the 37th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it was Nominee for Best International Feature Film.
Michael originally grew up in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Michael became fascinated with acting and filmmaking styles. After travelling the world for years, he landed and studied in London. Michael looked at the Impulse Company and Actors Centre in the prestigious West End of London. He was mentored by a second-generation Meisner tutor (Scott Williams). The teachings of William Ball after graduating from the Meisner technique in 2010, Michael played on stage in the works of Chekhov, Shakespeare, and Mamet.
Other notable films In 2012/13, he directed, produced and Starred in "Love of My Life", a Horror/ Thriller alongside Logie winner Peter O'Brien and Diarmid Heidenreich. On November 9, it premiered at the 2013 second annual Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival in Oregon, U.S.A. The film went on to win Best Horror/Thriller at the festival.
The "Love of my Life" was sold on April 29, 2014, V.O.D. Release with Gravitas Ventures to 100 million homes across the U.S.A. And has sold to many countries throughout Europe.
Michael completed "Life of the Party", which had its American premiere on September 24, 2018, at the Arena Cinelounge, Hollywood, CA "Life of the Party" the screenplay was picked up by the Oscars Foundation to display in the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for the permanent Core Collection. and in May 2017. Michael again directs, produces and stars in "Enter Sanctum", a Sci-Fi due to release in 2023;
