Ben Stiller starred as the museum’s night watchmen in the three Night at the Museum films: 2006’s Night at the Museum, 2009’s Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and 2014’s Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Honora Production’s Hits, the David Cross dark comedy that premiered in Sundance one year ago, will be released via BitTorrent Bundle.
The film will open on February 13 in what Honora founder Giles Andrew described as an unprecedented distribution agreement.
Viewers will also be able set their own pricing in theatres at pay-what-you-want screenings throughout the Us and Canada and on Vhx.
This will coincide with a traditional theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles as well as digital launch on iTunes, Google Play, Vimeo and other platforms.
Hits takes place in a small town in upstate New York populated by people who trade in unrealistic expectations.
“With the release of Hits, we’re giving audiences what they want, when they want it, in the form they want it in and at a price that they choose,” said Andrew.

In many ways, the "Night At The Museum" movies represent a near-perfect distillation of what Hollywood wants from its franchises. That is not a compliment. The three films in the series are interchangeable because none of the films seem to advance the characters or the premise beyond "Magical tablets bring things alive in a museum at night," and for the audience that keeps turning out to see these films, that seems like all they want or need from them. This one opens in Egypt, decades ago, as the magical tablet is discovered for the first time and a dire warning of a curse is ignored completely. We then flash forward to find that Larry (Ben Stiller) is still a security guard, but he is also somehow in charge of all the "special effects" for a major fundraiser that is being held. I'm not sure many major metropolitan museums put their...

Five years after Battle of the Smithsonian (and eight years after the first Night at the Museum), Ben Stiller will be stepping back into the role of night security guard Larry Daley this December for Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, the third and final installment in the series. Today, we’ve got the first images for the threequel, which Fox has released ahead of the film’s first trailer debut later this week.
As the images show, Larry is rejoined in this third installment by living museum exhibits Sacajawea (Mizuo Peck), Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek) and Attila the Hun (Patrick Gallagher), among others (expect big roles for Crystal the monkey, Owen Wilson’s Jedediah and Steve Coogan’s Octavius, as per usual). Additionally, Larry’s now-teenaged son Nick (Skyler Gisondo, replacing Jake Cherry) gets wrapped up in the action.

In Martin Scorsese’s exceptional The King of Comedy, we explore one man’s lust for fame and desperation to be given his full 15 minutes of the stuff. Had the fictional Rupert Pupkin been around today, achieving celebrity status is more attainable given the rise in social media and sites such as YouTube. So this is where Hits comes in, as director David Cross presents a contemporary, satirical comedy about a group of people, each with deep-rooted Rupert Pupkin ambitions, yet with far more simplistic (and somewhat dangerous) means of achieving them.
Set in upstate New York, we follow a group of youngsters who crave fame, from reality TV hopeful Katelyn (Meredith Hagner), to aspiring rapper Cory (Jake Cherry) to hipster political activist Donovan (James Adomian). However it seems the one person who is achieving the fame they all desire, is Kate’s beleaguered father Dave (Matt Walsh), who has...

Title: Hits Director: David Cross Starring: Meredith Hagner, Matt Walsh, James Adomian, Jake Cherry, Derek Waters, Wyatt Cenac David Cross is an established comedian whose fan base includes devotees of his 1990s sketch comedy show Mr. Show and his most recent revived series, Arrested Development. It’s understandable that the news of Cross stepping behind the camera to direct his first feature film would be met with widespread enthusiasm. Hits is an ambitious indictment of modern-day society and the importance we place on fame. It starts out as a searing, clever parody and then devolves into something far less intelligent, entertaining but hardly as impressive as its creator might like to [ Read More ]

The line-up of films premiering at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival has been released, and there are a lot of good movies, one of which includes The Raid 2, which I am incredibly excited to see! It's easily my most anticipated film at the festival.
The Sundance Film Festival takes place from January 16th to the 26th in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah. From the press release:
John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, said, “The Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival feature new work from many established independent filmmakers who began their careers at our Festival years ago, which allows us to reflect on the impact, legacy and growth of the independent film movement over the past 30 years.”
Trevor Groth, Director of Programming for the Sundance Film Festival, said, “In many of the films selected for our 2014 Sundance Film Festival, we see fascinating characters and subjects throughout.

The Sundance Film Festival made their final feature film line-ups with the Premieres category announcements. Sixteen films with huge name talent, returnee filmmakers and plenty of buyer interest/and future all night wheeling, and dealing.
After breaking out in Park City with The Guard, John Michael McDonagh returns (alongside actor Brendan Gleeson) the much anticipated Calvary. Mike Cahill (alongside actress Brit Marling) returns with more sci-fi terrain with, I Origins. Jake Paltrow who managed to sink instead of swim with The Good Night, was again surfaces with Young Ones. And this was unexpected, but Jordan Vogt-Roberts makes it back to back years with Toy’s House (The Kings of Summer) re-teams with Nick Offerman for Nick Offerman: American Ham (which is more concert-comedy film than narrative feature).
Not surprisingly, as predicted in 4 out of the 5, Park City veterans Gregg Araki, Michael Winterbottom, Ira Sachs and Lynn Shelton all return with their latest product,...

The Sundance Film Festival announced the titles selected to screen in its out-of-competition Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections. Last year, the movies that were launched in these categories — which typically highlight filmmakers who’ve appeared at Sundance before — included Before Midnight, Don Jon, and The Way Way Back; this year appears to be just as promising. In Lynn Shelton’s Laggies, a young woman stuck in arrested-development (Keira Knightley) has her life upended by an unexpected marriage proposal. In David Wain’s They Came Together — surely, a naughty pun, yes? — Wet Hot American Summer alums Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd...

In the grand tradition of The Twilight Zone, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps, and Eerie, Indiana, comes R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour which reminds us that you don’t have to sacrifice writing for production values and recognizable faces. If you do it right, you can have it all, and for the first season, The Haunting Hour managed to do just that. Even if the stories aren’t all that original and reuse twists fans of the horror genre have likely seen before, for their intended adolescent audience they’ll likely feel fresh and even a little creepy when the right episode comes along. To help sweeten the deal, each episode has an appearance from a young up-and-coming star from another series like Modern Family’s Ariel Winter or Nolan Gould, The Twilight Saga’s Booboo Stewart, Diary of a Wimpy Kid’s Robert Capron, Night at the Museum’s Jake Cherry,...

J. Edgar (Warner Bros.) Director Clint Eastwood provides a rock-solid, albeit rather flat portrait of polarizing FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, covering his life from late teens to his death. Leonardo DiCaprio does an impressive turn as Hoover, never crossing the line into caricature, and creating a Hoover that is all too human, making for an all the more unsettling look at absolute power run amuck. Where the film stumbles is the love story at its core: Hoover’s relationship with longtime aide Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer). In the hands of an openly-gay director like Gus Van Sant, this could have been a heartbreaking, tender story of forbidden (unrequited?) love, but Eastwood seems to tiptoe around their romance, with far too much delicacy and deference. The film works well when recreating the famous crimes and investigations which Hoover made his name on (the Lindbergh kidnapping,...

Chicago – With the right role and the right director, Channing Tatum manages to convince me that he is in fact a decent actor. He’s delivered enough solid work to illustrate that he’s more than just empty eye candy (in other words, he’s no Taylor Lautner). So why does Tatum continue to forge collaborations with Dito Montiel, a director who has a knack for making him look like an amateur?
There’s nothing remotely compelling or magnetic about Tatum’s work in “The Son of No One,” a star-studded dud that marks the third directorial effort of Montiel. After his hyper-stylized debut effort, “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” and forgettable sports drama, “Fighting,” Montiel has hit a new low with this dull and predictable crime drama. The level of misused talent in the ensemble is as staggering as it is depressing.

Dito Montiel's The Son of No One arrives on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack February 21 from Anchor Bay. Channing Tatum, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, Juliette Binoche, Tracy Morgan, and Ray Liotta star in this gritty drama that premiered at Sundance in 2011. I am a fan of cop dramas that show how messed up our society is and enjoyed this film to an extent. The film's ensemble cast and concept are solid, but the story and script fell flat.
The story follows a rookie cop named Jonathan White (Tatum) who gets transferred to a precinct in Queens in the neighborhood he grew up in. White's father was a cop, who worked and died on duty at the same precinct. As a result of his father's death, his childhood was horrible. Jonathan has beaten the odds, and his life is actually as normal as possible. He has a wife (Holmes) and a daughter,...

Chicago – Director Dito Montiel and star Channing Tatum were once tagged with the label of the hot new debut artistic partnership. 2006’s great “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” introduced both men to the world and it felt like it could be the calling card for a creative team to someday rival Scorsese & De Niro. Tatum reunited with Montiel on the disappointing “Fighting” and their latest venture, “The Son of No One,” while an improvement on Montiel’s sophomore slump, is nonetheless another misfire.
Of course, many readers will recognize Tatum from his more mainstream fare like “The Dilemma” and “G.I. Today’s Videos of the Week are three new clips for Channing Tatum’s crime thriller ‘The Son of No One‘, a searing police thriller where Jonathan “Milk” White (Channing Tatum) is a second-generation cop who gets in over his head when he’s assigned to re-open a double homicide cold case in his Queens neighborhood.
An anonymous source feeding new information on the long-unsolved murders to a local reporter (Juliette Binoche) leads to evidence suggesting a possible cover-up by the former lead detective (Academy Award® winner Al Pacino), who was on the investigation. As Jonathan digs deeper into the assignment, a dark secret about the case emerges, which threatens to destroy his life and his family.
Written and directed by Dito Montiel, the stellar cast includes Academy Award® winner Al Pacino, Ray Liotta, Katie Holmes, Academy Award® winner Juliette Binoche, “30 Rock” funnyman Tracy Morgan and James Ransone, in addition to Channing Tatum.

It’s hard to say what’s more absurd, the plot of “The Son of No One” or director Dito Montiel’s storytelling choices. The film relies on a ridiculous premise that would be distracting in a finely crafted work. Add that to this jumbled mess, and it makes for a cinematic disaster.
Presumably Montiel’s material looks better on paper, because he assembled a pretty impressive cast.
Channing Tatum plays Jonathan White, a cop who has returned to the force in the same Queensborough precinct where his father worked before he was killed in the line of duty. The story takes place in 2002, in a New York still recovering from 9/11, and flashes...

The Son of No One Written and directed by Dito Montiel Starring Al Pacino, Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, Katie Holmes, Tracy Morgan, Juliette Binoche, James Ransone, Jake Cherry Rating: 4.5/10 Dito Montiel, director of "Fighting" and "The Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," returns to Sundance with his attempt at a police drama, using the same type of dual timeline storytelling he's used in his earlier films. Any hopes that three movies may have improved him as a filmmaker probably should have been left at the door of the Eccles Theater. When Jonathan was a kid, he lived in the violent and dangerous Queensboro projects and he shot a junkie who was attacking him, then later was involved in the accidental death of another resident. 16 years later,...

Writer-director Dito Montiel and his go-to leading man Channing Tatum return to Sundance with the underwhelming crime drama "The Son of No One," a narrative mess predicated on a fairly predictable central mystery. Like Montiel's excellent 2006 debut, "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," the story flashes back and forth -- in this case, between 1986 and 2002. Tatum stars as Jonathan White, aka Milk, who as a young boy (Jake Cherry) growing up in the Queensboro Projects kills two people in tense situations that almost qualify (but not quite) as self-defense.

I actually almost enjoyed a movie that starred Channing Tatum... almost, and you know how much I don’t enjoy Tatum’s work. The film is called The Son of No One, and it had the makings of being a pretty great movie. It was directed by Dito Montiel, and had a great cast of actors around Tatum that included Al Pacino, Katie Holmes, Tracy Morgan and Ray Liotta. This is definitely the best performance that Tatum has given in a movie. It also had a very thrilling and engaging cop story that sucked me in from the very beginning of the film.
As I sat and watched The Son of No One, the film was shaping up to be one of my favorite movies at the Sundance Film Festival. I was loving it! But, it completely lost me during the last ten minutes of the movie. Everything was great until that ending.

People have been adapting works of art since time immemorial adjusting the details for the era and culture. There appear to be countless versions of what happens when a sorcerer leaves his apprentice alone to complete his chores. This led to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 1797 ballad, which was adapted into a symphonic poem by Paul Dukas in 1890. In the 1940s Walt Disney used both as an inspiration for the most beloved sequence in Fantasia, as Mickey Mouse plays he Sorcerer’s Apprentice. These days, with everything from the Disney vaults ripe for reinterpretation, it was inevitable that someone would turn this enchanting sequence into an over-the-top spectacle.
Actor Nicholas Cage is credited with the notion for this retelling of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which reunites him with director Jon Turteltaub, with Disney hoping for some National treasure magic to be sprinkled over this warmed-up rehash of the familiar. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,...

The Flick:
Loosely based on Walt Disney’s Fantasia, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a standard issue, lets please everyone weekend blockbuster. By standard issue I mean that it is mildly entertaining, at times funny, littered with cool visual effects, and almost instantly forgettable.
The plot is pretty simple. Balthazar (Nicolas Cage) is a sorcerer that trained under Merlin himself. All was right with the world except for an evil sorceress named Morgana Le Fay (Alice Krige), who of course wants to take over the world or something equally as dubious. One of Balthazar’s allies, Horvath (Alfred Molina) betrays him, so Balthazar is forced to trap Horvath along with Morgana in a nesting doll for all eternity. Fast forward 1300 or so years and we meet a young Dave (Jake Cherry), who has a creepy encounter with Balthazar. Balthazar gives Dave a ring and tells him he is very special...

Alright, I'll be honest, I've never heard of this film until right now, but its cast and premise have me interested. I'm a fan of "under the radar" actors like Jim Caviezel, and it's been a while since I can remember seeing him in anything, so it's good to see him back. Here's what Transit is all about: Caviezel plays Nate, a father on a road trip with his family, played by Elizabeth Rohm, Sterling Knight and Jake Cherry. At a rest stop, Frain leads a group of criminals, played by...

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is the latest movie between long-standing collaborators, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer films. This is the 2nd movie to be released by the two power-houses in 2010 with the first being Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Where as Prince of Persia was based on a computer game, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice got its inspiration from a sequence in Disney’s Fantasia which was created back in 1940 – but does a short sequence lend itself to becoming a full length feature film?

Nicolas Cage in an action-packed fantasy epic that's not just for kids.
Nicolas Cage in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"

Kid flicks have ruled this summer, with movies like "Toy Story 3," "The Karate Kid" and "Despicable Me" racking up box-office grosses far beyond industry predictions. Now comes "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," which looks likely to repeat that money-minting feat. Like all great kid flicks, though, it's too good — too fast and too funny — to be confined within the "family film" ghetto.
It's a Disney picture, of course, derived from a segment of the studio's 1940 animated classic, "Fantasia," in which apprentice sorcerer Mickey Mouse did battle with a platoon of out-of-control buckets and mops. For this live-action version of the tale, that eight-minute episode has been much-enlarged (although thanks to some of the year's tightest editing, the movie still runs well under two hours). Now the story begins in 740 A.D.

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" has spread its charm in New York City. On Tuesday, July 6, the film has had its world premiere which took place at the New Amsterdam Theatre in Times Square and had Disney's iconic character, Mickey Mouse, greeting the guests.
Nicolas Cage who takes a lead role in the film was spotted coming hand in hand with wife Alice Kim. His co-star Jay Baruchel, in the meantime, opted to make a solo appearance. Together with Alfred Molina who portrays the film's villain, they later posed on the red carpet.
As usual, producer Jerry Bruckheimer did not miss the premiere for his film. This time, he took wife Linda Bruckheimer as his companion. Director Jon Turteltaub and the likes of Teresa Palmer, Jake Cherry and Manish Dayal who land roles in the movie also supported the event.

After The Last Airbender we’re in need of a good CGI-infused fantasy film and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is really looking like it could be just that. Between the trailers, clips and behind the scenes featurettes, there’s a nice chunk of material available on the web and it’s all quite impressive. Now we’re adding another clip to the batch and a five-minute one at that. The footage shows a young Dave Stutler’s (Jake Cherry) first encounter with the sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage). When an unusual ring takes a liking to the boy, Balthazar knows Dave has the power to grow up to be a great sorcerer himself. The problem is, when [...]...

On Monday we got to see four minutes of footage from the upcoming The Sorcerer's Apprentice. One of the videos featured was the first meeting between Balthazar (Nicolas Cage) and a young Dave (Jake Cherry), where Balthazar confirms that young kid is destined to become a great sorcerer. Now, thanks to Yahoo!, we have now have that entire scene. While I still maintain high-hopes for this film, the clip starts off too creepy for words. You have a dirty Nic Cage who is doing his best to calm down an obviously nervous kid. So what does he do? He magically closes the doors and stops Dave dead in his tracks. There are multiple stories just like this popping up in the news everyday, only they involve a different and much worse definition of "magic tricks." We can only hope that Cage doesn't give off the same vibe throughout the film,...
