In 2007, Bryan Kocis, gay pornography director and founder of Cobra Films, was murdered in his home by Joseph Kerekes and Harlow Cuadra over a contractual dispute involving porn actor Sean Paul Lockhart, aka Brent Corrigan. Now, that story has been turned into the feature film “King Cobra,” starring Garrett Clayton (“The Fosters”) as Lockhart and Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”) as “Stephen,” a pseudonym for Kocis.

King Cobra is an erotic, venomous thriller loaded with cheesy porn-actor charm and equally perverse darkness. Only a true story could be this twisted, and only in the world of sleaziness and fame could egos rationalize murder as a way to beat the competition. In fact, writer/director Justin Kelly creates more believable motivations for Joe Kerekes and Harlow Cuadra than their real accounts detail. Kelly’s sinful slice of “twink” exploitation somehow creates a more believable scenario than reality by under-exaggerating where cinema typically exploits. The Viper cars, trademarked names, predatory advances – welcome to the flashy, ferocious underworld of sex, lies and videotapes.
Garrett Clayton stars as Sean Paul Lockhart Aka Brent Corrigan, a young phenom pornstar who becomes an overnight sensation thanks to Cobra Video. He lives with “King Cobra” himself – Stephen (Christian Slater) – who writes and directs twink-centric videos from his suburban abode. On the other side...

King Cobra director Justin Kelly talks about his film based on Brent Corrigan’s career and how far Franco, who plays a porn producer, was willing to go on screen
“I like to think that I’m gay in my art and straight in my life,” James Franco said to himself in an article for FourTwoNine magazine he wrote titled, The Straight James Franco Talks to the Gay James Franco. “Although, I’m also gay in my life up to the point of intercourse, and then you could say I’m straight.”
Franco toying with the public’s perception of his sexuality is nothing new. He’s made his fascination with gay culture known not just in interviews (in April, he told New York Magazine that he considers himself “a little gay” – even if he doesn’t sleep with other men), but also in his work. Title: King Cobra Director: Justin Kelly Starring: Christian Slater, Garrett Clayton, James Franco, Keegan Allen, Alicia Silverstone, Molly Ringwald. ‘King Cobra’ delves into the world of gay porn, being graphic but not too revealing or vulgar. Director Justin Kelly proves to be a maestro of discreet authenticity, adapting for the big screen the book by Andrew E. Stoner and Peter A. ★★★★☆ Justin Kelly's King Cobra bravely re-tells the true story of gay porn icon Brent Corrigan (real name Sean Lockhart) and is by no means one for the faint-hearted. The mere mention of the word 'pornography' incites, more often than not, a knee-jerk reaction of sneering judgement and condescension but to dismiss this brash, ballsy, brazen film at face value as tawdry smut would be a mistake. Beneath the veneer of fake tan, rippling muscles and feigned ecstasy lies a striking amount of heart, soul and sincerity of emotion.

Love him or loathe him, James Franco can't ever be accused of making boring choices. From his grill-tastic turn in Harmony Korine's phenomenal Spring Breakers to a recurring role on General Hospital -- after becoming an A-list star -- the Oscar-nominated actor has never shied away from going against the grain of mainstream stardom. So it's no surprise that Franco not only stars in but produced the forthcoming gay porn drama King Cobra. The film centers on the rise of gay porn mega-star Brent Corrigan (born Sean Lockhart) and his involvement in the 2007 murder trial of Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes, two Virginia Beach escorts who were accused (and eventually convicted) of murdering Corrigan's mentor/exploiter, Cobra Video founder Bryan Kocis. Given how taboo the subject of gay porn remains in mainstream filmmaking, it's pretty striking to see a film devoted to the subject. Especially one that stars bold-faced names like Franco,...

Sex is not a game, it’s a business; so says the first poster and trailer for King Cobra, Justin Kelly’s ripped-from-the-headlines crime drama that chronicles the rise and fall of Sean Paul Lockhart (Aka Brent Corrigan).
Based on the novel Cobra Killer by Andrew E. Stoner and Peter A. Conway, the feature stars James Franco, Mr. Robot star Christian Slater and Molly Ringwald, who are soon pulled into a murder investigation following the death of gay porn producer Bryan Kocis. Kelly and screenwriter D. Madison Savage are behind the adaptation, and we now have the surprisingly safe-for-work trailer to pour over ahead of King Cobra‘s limited release late next month.
Of all the many feature films lining James Franco’s slate – Zeroville, The Masterpiece et al. – this one piques our curiosity right off the bat for its mix of striking, neon-drenched visuals and a diverse cast comprised...

Before anyone gets triggered, let me forewarn you that King Cobra is a true story centered around gay porn. That story seems absolutely insane as it features two porn moguls going to war over one man: Brent Corrigan. Here's the official description:
Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, King Cobra is a deliciously dark, twisted plunge into the behind-the-scenes world of the pornography industry. It’s 2006, YouTube is in its infancy, and internet porn is still behind a paywall. Taking the stage name Brent Corrigan, a fresh-faced, wannabe adult video performer (Garrett Clayton) is molded into a star by Stephen (Christian Slater), a closeted gay porn mogul who runs the skin flick empire Cobra Video from his seemingly ordinary suburban home. But as Brent’s rise and demands for more money put him at odds with his boss, he also attracts the attention of a rival producer (James Franco) and...

Based on a true story, King Cobra shows James Franco and Christian Slater face off as gay porn producers, but there’s likely far more to writer-director Justin Kelly‘s movie than that summary. The trailer for King Cobra starts off unsettlingly enough. A young Sean Paul Lockhart (Garrett Clayton) is being seduced on grainy video, encouraged to remove his clothes for the man behind the camera, Stephen (played with an arachnid oiliness by Christian Slater). We think we know where the story is going, as Lockhart is lured into Stephen’s orbit with gifts, promises and propositions. Lockhart is rechristened “Brent Corrigan,” and in the wilderness of online pornography’s formative years, Stephen sees Brent as the key to building his own gay porn empire.
And then King Cobra’s trailer quickly takes a left turn as James Franco enters the picture as Joe, a rival porn producer who would love to contract out Stephen’s golden body for a spin. “Brent Corrigan” is Stephen’s licensed trademark, and the producer doesn’t seem inclined to hand his pet golden goose over to...

James Franco and Christian Slater are giving us a sneak peak into a whole new world. The trailer for King Cobra has finally surfaced on the Internet, and we're telling you right now—it's hard to look away. Franco and Slater star as two gay-porn moguls who go to war over the employment of the industry's newest star, Brent Corrigan (Garrett Clayton), and the fight is everything but clean. As conflict rises, the possible solution to the problem becomes serious. Yeah, we're talking blood and possible murder. Mix all that in with sex and lust, and you got yourself a movie, people! Pretty Little Liars star Keegan Allen also flaunts his nearly naked bod as Franco's lover in the film (and...

Justin Kelly’s ripped-from-the-headlines drama “King Cobra” premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival to positive reviews. In his B+ critique, IndieWire’s David Ehlich called it the “’Boogie Nights’ of gay porn and possibly the best film ever made about the business end of America’s gay porn industry.” Now, after being acquired by IFC Films, the first trailer has been released.
The film centers on Sean Lockhart (Garrett Clayton), a boyishly handsome seventeen-year-old who dreams of fame and success. After he meets the seemingly conservative Stephen (Christian Slater), founder of Cobra Video, he starts to perform in gay porn under the alter ego Brent Corrigan and soon becomes an overnight sex symbol. When two rival porn producers Joe (James Franco) and Harlow (Keegan Allen) try and recruit Corrigan, things take a turn for the worse. Molly Ringwald and Alicia Silverstone also co-star.

While he’s currently shooting David Simon’s new HBO series The Deuce, which looks at the porn industry in the 1970s and ’80s in New York City, James Franco has another production which explores a more modern look at the industry. King Cobra, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, follows Franco and Christian Slater as rival gay porn producers who fight over a burgeoning star. Ahead of a release next month, IFC Midnight has now released the first trailer.

The actor gives his most unhinged performance since Spring Breakers in Justin Kelly’s compelling film detailing the rise of porn star Brent Corrigan
As an actor, James Franco has two modes: committed and can’t-be-bothered. His bold work in Spring Breakers, 127 Hours and Pineapple Express falls into the first category; Oz the Great and Powerful and Werner Herzog’s misbegotten Queen of the Desert meanwhile feature Franco at his most lifeless. Luckily for film-maker Justin Kelly, Franco is at his brazen best in the dark gay porn saga King Cobra.
The film reunites the star with the director of I Am Michael for another gay-themed narrative based on real events. That, however, is where the similarities end.

Team Experience is at the Tribeca Film Festival. Here's Jason on King Cobra.
Film festivals make for weird bedfellows, and so it was settling in to see King Cobra - the new true crime flick detailing the rise of gay porn star Brent Corrigan and his sordid side-wind through murder - at 9am on a Sunday morning. Now I could make the case that I was also set for a different sort of worship, getting on one's knees and what not, but that'd be cheap, and we wouldn't want to be cheap. (No, never.)
Certainly not while talking about a film so hilariously devoted to luxurious cheapness. Think back on the film and I bet your mind will be less flooded with memories of oiled pecs than it will be by leather couches abandoned across stretches of beige suburban carpets,...

Actor-director-producer James Franco is fast becoming one of the most prolific performers currently working in Hollywood. His tendency to operate with a full plate often includes working with the same people on multiple projects, and his latest commitment is no exception. King Cobra is the second feature film from writer-director Justin Kelly – following on from his recent debut I Am Michael, which also starred Franco. Like that film, King Cobra is based on true events – this time, those that surrounded the brutal murder of a gay adult film studio owner in 2007.
The title King Cobra refers to Cobra Video – a gay pornography label founded by the late Bryan Kocis. Kocis was an entrepreneur who, in 2002, pleaded guilty to a charge of child abuse relating to a 15 year old. In 2004, Kocis began to hire a young man with the screen name Brent Corrigan to perform in his video productions, although it...

There's nothing little about this "Pretty Little Liars" star! James Franco took to Instagram to share a shirtless snapshot with Keegan Allen on the set of their upcoming gay porn drama "King Cobra," which the "Spring Breakers" star is directing. While James is no stranger to showing off his bod on social media, we can't stop staring at Allen's six-pack abs ... and what he's packing below them. Both actors flaunt their goods in the pic, sporting nothing but briefs and, in Franco's case, sweat pants. "King Cobra" will chronicle the murder of gay porn director Bryan Kocis, who was found dead on January 24, 2007, after police were called to a fire at his Pennsylvania home. Christian Slater, Molly Ringwald and Disney's "Teen Beach" heart throb Garrett Clayton are set to star in the James Franco-produced "King Cobra".
The story deals with the real life murder of gay adult film producer Bryan Kocis (Slater) who owned Cobra Video. Clayton will play gay adult film star Brent Corrigan who, at the time, was both underage and the company's biggest star.
In 2007, 25-year-old Harlow Raymond Cuadra and 33-year-old Joseph Manuel Kerekes killed Kocis in what's been described as a "misguided attempt to make it big" and to lure Corrigan away from the company. No word on what role Ringwald will play.

The Dark Place, the eagerly anticipated mystery-thriller from the team behind festival hit Judas Kiss, debuted last weekend to positive reviews.
First seen Friday, June 13th for a special digital premiere audience, the The Dark Place played again Saturday the 14th at the Baltimore Qfest and Sunday the 15th at the Queer Film Festival, Nuremberg. Audiences in multiple cities were excited and entertained by the film.
“It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire film,” said Andrew Augstyniak, a student at Appalachian State University. “The plot keeps you engaged and you’re trying to figure out the storyline at the same time [the hero] is.”
“I really appreciate the fact that this is a film with gay characters without being gay themed,” commented Roisin Moriarty, of Cork, Ireland. “Their sexuality is a total non-issue which hopefully reflects the way forward both in cinema and real life.”

Fifteen men. Fifteen layered “rocker” outfits from H&M. Fifteen obligations to make preteen girls clap, whinny, and vote. Who will win? Who will whinny?
I did a couple of times. Not raucously, but overall, the first showcase of American Idol‘s male contestant crop was much better than the distaff half’s debut on Tuesday night. Some areas of improvement over the ladies: less screaming; more looking-like-they-belong-on-a-stage; handsomeness; guitar antics; palpable sensuality; faces for gay men to enjoy. Maybe we didn’t get a tender, tearful moment in the vein of M.K. Nobilette‘s whispery triumph on Tuesday, but I think we clearly saw five dudes fulla feelings emerge as frontrunners. Which is convenient, considering only five are guaranteed to proceed.

Like God and the Devil in the Book of Job, maternal monstrosity and internalized homophobia try their damndest to claim the soul of cherub-faced Caleb (Sean Paul Lockhart). Both press mightily upon him, and he soon crumples under their weight — by the second minute, he's in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit.
The romantic thriller Truth finds Caleb eager to tell his story, which has two beginnings: a childhood smothered by the homophobic hate of his bio and foster moms, and an online hookup with silver fox Jeremy (a charming Rob Moretti, who also wrote and directed).

Shoreline Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based production and sales company, has picked up world sales rights to wine-country mystery-thriller, The Dark Place, from Blue Seraph Productions.
Jody Wheeler (Heat Wave, In the Closet) directed the story, with J.T. Tepnapa (Judas Kiss), from Wheeler’s own screenplay, with Carlos Pedraza producing.
The film focuses on Keegan Dark, a troubled young man cursed with the uncanny ability to remember his life in videographic detail. He returns to his family’s wine estate, boyfriend in tow, to make amends with his estranged mother, only to discover a conspiracy that frames him for murder and threatens his family’s lives and livelihood.
Pictured: After a near-fatal mishap, Keegan Dark (Blaise Embry) is examined by a doctor (Andy Copeland) who may not have Keegan’s best interests at heart.

Queen Elizabeth II has requested television time to sign what is being called a historic pledge of non-discrimination in the Commonwealth. "We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds." Other grounds is meant to refer to Glbt people, but toned down to defer to members of the Commonwealth that still have draconian gay laws. While it sounds like a cop out to me, diplomatic sources say "The impact of this statement on gay and women’s rights should not be underestimated. Nothing this progressive has ever been approved by the United Nations. And it is most unusual for the Queen to request to sign documents in public, never mind call the cameras in."

Trevor Wright photographed by Clinton Gaughran for AfterElton
At 30 years old, Trevor Wright can claim his ride in the entertainment industry has been both varied and very long. He began as a Gap spokeskid who landed a role in Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" video alongside Elijah Wood, and he grew up landing roles on The George Lopez Show, NYPD Blue, Scrubs, and Boston Public. Then came the role for which AfterElton.com readers tend to be most appreciative: Zack in Shelter, the 2007 independent gay romance written by the film's director Jonah Markowitz. Wright's innocence and sensitivity in the role helped seal its position in our poll of the 100 greatest gay films ever -- it came in at #1. Yes, ahead of Brokeback Mountain. Anne Hathaway's resentment is palpable.

Six years later, it's shocking just how far pop culture has come in terms of normalizing gay characters and stories, and how much bolder the gay film audience has grown in demanding films that speak truthfully to their sexual experience (though, it must be said, the films that answer the call are usually decidedly outside of the mainstream). Give it up from crown prince of Mattel hotness Mr. Zac Efron, who turns 25 today. Wow! Yay! Except, woah: This means Zac Efron is getting too old to play some of the roles he was born to fill. Before it's too late and Zac dies of old age with Kevin Jonas, here are seven roles we'd love to see the High School Musical alum play.
