The next installment of NatGeo’s Genius franchise will follow two subjects: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and thus be titled Genius: MLK/X.
“The fourth season will explore the formative years, pioneering accomplishments, dueling philosophies and key personal relationships of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X,” per the official description. “While King advanced racial equality through nonviolent protest, Malcolm X argued forcefully for Black empowerment, identity and self-determination. With their formidable wives, Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz, by their sides, King and Malcolm X became synonymous with the civil rights era and the fight for racial and economic justice.

The Ferret Squad, which is still looking for funding, will be directed by Vancouver filmmaker Alison Parker, who previously shot a short film on a similar theme called Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale. The Soska sisters, Jen and Sylvia (Dead Hooker in a Trunk), are preparing their second feature. Their newest horror film, American Mary, deals with underground surgeries. And, Mary is not someone you would likely hire for a quick nip and tuck. The first trailer shows a few surgeries gone wrong. Apparently, Mary (Katharine Isabelle) has dropped out of medical school. She now experiments on a steady stream of clientele. Her results are disturbingly lackluster. Late in the clip, Dr. Josef Mengele is mentioned. If you missed the joke, that is because Mengele has been dead for thirty years now. Previously, he was a Nazi doctor who performed pseudo-science on twins and other concentration camp prisoners.
