George R.R. Martin is teasing a project with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.
The author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the fantasy novel that inspired the HBO drama series created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, hinted he was working with Williams on something.
“We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about — well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it,” Martin wrote in his blog as he recounted his travels in London. “But it could be so much fun.”
Martin didn’t specify what the project with Williams was about or whether it involved a Game of Thrones sequel. Williams played Arya Stark throughout the show’s eight-season run on HBO.
HBO head Casey Bloys commented earlier in the day on how it to work with Martin on the multiple projects set in the Game of Thrones universe.

Doomer TV is an odd sort of fictional proof that in the land of the free and the home of the brave, things can still go south quickly.
Most people in America have never experienced the hardship of third-world nations, their economies, or totalitarian despotism.
Seneca, a philosopher and satirist in ancient Rome, put it simply: “I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent — no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you.”
(HBO)
The exceptions, of course, are migrants and U.S. Service members, but Doomer TV likely hits closer to home for them than it does for most.
The Covid-19 pandemic is as close to the fictional universes of The Last of Us and Station Eleven that modern generations in America will get… hopefully.

Late last week, we learned that Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy have turned to Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg to write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy.
There have been conflicting reports about whether these movies will serve as Episodes 10, 11, and 12 in the Skywalker Saga. However, most outlets have since confirmed they won't be a continuation of that story.
According to a new piece from Variety (via SFFGazette.com), the news came as a surprise to executives at Lucasfilm and Disney, but is "considered internally to be in deep development and not nearly ready to be made public." In other words, this could be another announced Star Wars project that fails to ever come to fruition.
The trade acknowledges that many in the industry were shocked by Kinberg's hiring, particularly as his track record as a writer is spotty at best.

Game of Thrones established itself as one of the most successful fantasy drama TV series with its epic world-building. The show had a high-stakes narrative, political drama, captivating characters, and a dash of supernatural creatures. However, not everything from the TV series was made-up or unrealistic.
George R. R. Martin accepted on several occasions that he drew inspiration from other writers and real-world scenarios for A Song of Ice and Fire. Fans and history buffs soon noticed that the fictional struggle for ascension resembled the events of the Wars of the Roses. Now Sophie Turner and Kit Harington are reuniting for a film project which shares this special connection with Got.

We’re now five years removed from “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.” While there have been plenty of new “Star Wars” television shows on Disney+ — some of them even stellar — there’s still no clear answer to what Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm want to do with the film arm of the massive franchise.
This week, the latest writer looking to bring the films back to the big screen is Simon Kinberg, the writer behind many of the X-Men movies. No one knows what those movies are going to be about just yet either, or when they could come out.
But the questions about where this franchise is going next have been percolating for years, to the point that we’ve bemoaned its lack of direction and lost potential on several occasions. “The Rise of Skywalker,” of course, was already the product of whiplash to fan reaction and backlash to “The Last Jedi,...

Simon Kinberg, the prominent producer, writer, and director best known for his work on the “X-Men” franchise, has signed a deal to develop a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films that he will write and produce, Deadline reports. Kinberg will produce with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy.
Deadline reports that the film will be a continuation of the “Skywalker Saga,” but adds that insiders dispute this, saying that it will be a new saga. (Several other trade reports also suggested this will be its own standalone trilogy.)
Kinberg has prior experience working in a galaxy far, far away; he co-created the popular 2014-2018 animated series “Star Wars Rebels” with Dave Filoni (now Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm) and Carrie Beck, and was a creative consultant on the franchise-reviving “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Kinberg also earned an Academy Award nomination for producing “The Martian,” produced “Deadpool,” “Deadpool 2,” and “Logan,” rebooted “The Twilight Zone,...

Simon Kinberg, the writer of Fox’s “X-Men” movies, is the latest in a long carousel of writers and producers who will try their hand at bringing “Star Wars” back to the big screen.
Kinberg will develop, write, and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films for Lucasfilm, according to a report first in Deadline. Though there’s some difference of opinion in the trades as to whether the series will continue the Skywalker Saga and be Episodes X-xii or will be focused on a new group of characters.
While there have been a plethora of “Star Wars” series on Disney+ in the last five years, there hasn’t been a single theatrical “Star Wars” movie since the Skywalker Saga concluded with “Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker” back in 2019. There have though been a lot of start and stop efforts, with a slew of filmmakers and writers coming and going over the years.

Potentially big news for "Star Wars" fans today as Lucasfilm is developing not just one new movie in the franchise, but an entire trilogy. According to Deadline, mega-producer and writer/director Simon Kinberg has signed a deal with Lucasfilm to develop a new trilogy of films set in a galaxy far, far away.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the outlet states that this could potentially be another sequel trilogy that would pick up after the events of 2019's "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker." The outlet also cautions that the notion of this being "Episode X," so to speak, has been disputed. It's also worth noting that Lucasfilm is already developing a new movie with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey that will focus on her training a new Jedi Order. Still, while it's hard to say precisely what is going on here, it's worth looking at...

The Force is strong with Simon Kinberg.
Lucasfilm has hired the prolific writer and producer to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films. An early report insinuated are that this will actually be chapters 10 – 12 of the Skywalker Saga, continuing the path that most recently concluded with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. But there are others that insist this is a standalone series, something akin to the trilogies that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and, separately, Rian Johnson, were working on for the company. It is being referred to as a “new saga.”
Kinberg is no stranger to “Star Wars.” Following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, Kinberg was part of a small brain trust that was working on new projects for the studio. He consulted on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and co-created the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” with Dave Filoni.

Simon Kinberg is heading into hyperspace, signing an expansive deal to write and produce a Star Wars feature trilogy.
Kinberg would spearhead the launching of a new saga in the beloved galaxy far, far away, and will write the scripts for what Lucasfilm hopes would chart a brand new path forward for the sci-fi space opera universe.
Lucasfilm topper Kathleen Kennedy will also produce the new trilogy.
The new story is not meant to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, the name of the overall arc of the popular and pop culture-dominating Star Wars movies known as Episodes 1 through 9. The intent here is to have brand new characters and a new story, and not have it be a continuation, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. (Although that does not mean that some characters could not or would not pop up.)

“X-Men” alum Simon Kinberg is preparing to visit a galaxy far, far away.
Lucasfilm is developing a new “Star Wars” trilogy with Kinberg set to write and produce the three films with studio chief Kathleen Kennedy. This will begin a new series with new characters after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac, concluded the original nine-chapter “Skywalker Saga” in 2019. Though plot details haven’t been revealed, Lucasfilm has disputed the notion, first suggested by Deadline in their initial report of the forthcoming trilogy, that Kinberg’s movies will continue the story that George Lucas began with 1977’s “A New Hope,” introducing Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.

Sometimes, you just don't get things right the first time around. The showrunners of "Game of Thrones," Dan Benioff and D.B. Weiss, know this better than most; the first pilot they shot for HBO's hit series apparently really, really stunk, leading to a reshoot that cost the premium network $10 million.
In James Hibberd's oral history of the series, titled "Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon," the journalist spoke to basically everybody involved with that disastrous first pilot, from Benioff and Weiss themselves to the episode's actors to series author George R.R. Apparently, the original "Game of Thrones" pilot shoot was plagued with problems ranging from a rogue horse to weird costumes, the story didn't come across clearly to anybody who watched it, and on top of all of that,...

HBO's megahit series "Game of Thrones" was so successful that there's been a nonstop churn of spinoffs in development ever since it ended. Now, though, something different is stirring: a "Game of Thrones" movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO has been "quietly developing at least one film" set in the historical fantasy world created by author George R.R. Martin. There are currently no writers, directors, or cast members attached to the project(s), nor any specifics about the story, but there's certainly no shortage of source material.
This isn't the first time the possibility of movies has been floated. Martin said in 2014 that ideas like a big screen conclusion for "Game of Thrones" were being "actively discussed," and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wanted to wrap up the series with a movie trilogy.
HBO's parent company is Warner Bros. Discovery, which has become focused on straddling its franchises across film and television.

Deadline reports that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has cast 3 Body Problem's Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle. The 12-year-old's star is on the rise after playing Follower in D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo's splashy Netflix series but this is her biggest role to date.
As the trade explains, "In [the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book], the bad guy is Krem of the Yellow Hill, who kills a young alien girl’s father. She draws Supergirl into the conflict. Knolle is a noble and honorable warrior who travels across the galaxy with Supergirl to hunt Krem for killing her father in cold blood."
This movie appears to be a direct adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely's comic of the same name, so Ridley will likely have a major role as Ruthye in this story alongside Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El.

A movie extending the Game of Thrones franchise, based on the hugely popular fantasy books by George R.R. Martin, is in very early development at Warner Bros., sources have confirmed to Deadline.
Warner Bros declined to comment. From what we hear, there have only been preliminary discussions on the subject of a Game of Thrones movie for now, so there are no creative attachments to speak of. It’s also unclear what creative direction a film would take in comparison to the HBO series, which adapted Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series.
News of the potential project comes five years following the conclusion of the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss-created Game of Thrones, which brought forth huge viewership and ample accolades for the premium cabler, including 59 Emmys.

Game of Thrones became one of the most-watched TV series when it was first released, and the show had everything needed to become a success. Fans enjoyed the high-stakes political drama, filled with dragons and other myths. Similarly, its spin-off series House of the Dragon also quickly gained prominence among Got fans.
However, most could miss an interesting parallel between two prominent characters from both shows. Daenerys’s tragic loss of her dragon in season 7 when she did not heed Tyrion Lannister’s advice sharply mirrored Aegon II’s misfortune. Both characters had to face heavy losses because they paid no mind to their counsel and instead acted on impulse.

In a surprise to no one, the Rey film, which disappeared after being pushed back for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” has hit yet another setback. This time, the new writer, who Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy got to replace the other two writers they fired, has also left the film.
Steven Knight was brought in March 2023 to replace the original writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Lindelof has said publically that he was asked to leave Star Wars.
This isn’t even the first time this has happened. Kathleen Kennedy has a trail of people who either quit or were fired for “creative differences.”
There is a list of 18 from 2022, which has increased since then! Some of the people removed include,
Michael Arndt, Gary Whitta, Gareth Edwards, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Colin Trevorrow, Josh Trank, Stephen Daldry, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Stephen Schiff, J.D. Dillard and Matt Owens, Stuart Beattie,...

"Game of Thrones" had its share of recastings -- they were inevitable with a production and an ensemble as sprawling as the show had. The series had two Daario Naharises (Ed Skrein and then Michiel Huisman) and three Gregor Cleganes. After season 2, "Game of Thrones" also recast both of the younger Lannister-Baratheon siblings, Myrcella (Aimée Richardson and then future "First Omen" star Nell Tiger Free) and King Tommen (Callum Wharry and Dean Charles Chapman). Even Daenerys Targaryen was played by Tamzin Merchant, not Emilia Clarke, in the unaired (and then remade) "Game of Thrones" pilot.
One "Game of Thrones" recasting might have slipped your notice, though, because both successive actors were buried beneath make-up. That recasting would be the Night King, leader of the undead White Walkers. In seasons 4 and 5, the Night King was played by Welsh actor Richard Brake; you might recognize him as Joe Chill (murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents) from "Batman Begins,...

Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are turning their attention to a different type of political power play.
The Game of Thrones duo is joining forces with creator Mike Makowsky (Bad Education), director Matt Ross, and executive producer Bernie Caulfield to adapt Candice Millard’s 2011 novel, Destiny of the Republic, into a new series for Netflix.
“It’s been the thrill of a lifetime seeing this crack team come together to bring James Garfield and his cohort back from the annals of long-forgotten history,” Makowsky tells Tudum. “Six years into working on this project, it’s a story I still can’t believe is true — in all its wild, tragic glory — and it somehow feels even more relevant to our world today than ever before. When the dust finally settles on the fantasy phenomenon known as "Game of Thrones" and fans are able to look back without being clouded by emotion (along the lines of what's been happening recently with the 20th anniversary of "Lost" and its ongoing reappraisal), time may prove to be quite kind to the groundbreaking HBO series -- controversies and all. Some of those controversies have become an inextricable part of how we discuss and analyze the epic undertaking, like its iffy approach to depictions of sexual violence or the various ways the adaptation strayed from author George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Others fall into a different and more nuanced category entirely, one that's worth dissecting even all these years later. In that light, a particularly odd scene from over a decade ago might be worth a second look.

In 2019, George R.R. Martin watched, along with the rest of the world, as "Game of Thrones" ended not with a bang but with a whimper. According to the author, who penned the source material "A Song of Ice and Fire," he could have physically appeared in the final season if he'd wanted to ... but he declined the offer when it came from showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
"David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do," Martin told Entertainment Weekly back in February of 2019, before the series finally concluded. "But I didn't think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast." Martin lives in New Mexico full time, and to be fair to the author, that's a really long trek to make just for a short appearance. There's also the...

Once upon a time, "Game of Thrones" was the biggest television phenomenon any of us had seen in years — and then, in May of 2019, the eighth and final season concluded as we all looked around and collectively wondered what the hell happened to a once-great show. To say fans hated season 8 of "Game of Thrones" as well as the finale, "The Iron Throne," is an understatement; some people quite literally wrote a petition to HBO asking the network to do the whole final installment again so they could make it good in a second go-around, and if you ask any random viewer what they thought of the "Game of Thrones" finale, they'll probably tell you it stunk and then hold you captive in a conversation about why it stunk.

With author George R. R. Martin's fantasy saga "A Song of Ice and Fire" currently (and perhaps forever) unfinished, many mysteries remain unanswered. The TV adaptation "Game of Thrones," which deviated from the source material even before running out of it, can only fill in so many blanks.
Many questions burning brightest in my mind are about the Others: the ethereal ice beings that prowl beyond the Night Watch's Wall with an army of the undead at their control. The Others are supposedly the main villains of these books, but five tomes in, and they still feel like they're on the periphery of the story. Extremely little has been revealed about the Others -- their history, their culture, their goals, etc. Many of the most derided parts of the "Game of Thrones" ending come down to how it failed to give satisfying answers about the Others.

When Game of Thrones was released in 2011, the world was hooked to George R.R. Martin’s amazing imagination. Although the finale may have been a bit of a letdown to some fans, the rest of the 8 seasons kept everyone at the edge of their seats. The series ended up being a full-blown hit globally. But that may have never happened if the author had decided to take the same route that J. K. Rowling did with the Harry Potter franchise.

The second season of House of the Dragon, though successful, was pretty lackluster when compared to its debut season. Season 2 peaked in the middle, then fell off at the end, something we have seen before in the case of Game of Thrones. And there’s good reason for that.

House of the Dragon recently concluded its second season, with the fantasy drama series receiving mostly positive reviews. However, it was also criticized for making unnecessary changes to the source material. Author George R.R. Martin himself recently criticized showrunner Ryan Condal for changing the infamous Blood & Cheese incident from book to screen.

If there’s one thing that drives every TV show fan crazy, it’s waiting for the next thing to drop. But the worst part? Waiting for the book that inspired a favorite show. Game of Thrones was known for its utter disregard for fan-favorite characters and brutal on-screen deaths. The show’s first season finale proved to fans that the series was not messing around and would not hesitate to kill even its biggest stars. While the later seasons may have become fan-pleasing, the deaths in the initial seasons set it apart.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, Game of Thrones was a breakthrough for HBO. Debuting in 2011, It straddled multiple eras of its network’s ownership and technology.
The series showed that massive audiences would respond to fantasy series with dense mythologies. It also included a massive number of characters and place names.
And even though the series eventually got beyond Martin’s published books, many fans were dissatisfied with how the series ended. But Game of Thrones remains mostly well-remembered.

As with most popular franchises in the present day, the overseers of what is now Warner Bros. Discovery have sought to extend the franchise in additional directions and indefinitely into the future.
