As Festival Director and Chief Curator, Carl Spence was instrumental in growing the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) into one of the largest film festivals in North America over the past two decades along with spearheading SIFF's successful expansion as Seattle's leading independent theatrical exhibitor with three cinemas. He also held Director of Programming positions with the Palm Springs International Film Festival and with the San Francisco International Film Festival. In 2014, he co-founded Orcas Island Film Festival as the Festival Co-Director and Chief Curator and became a senior programmer for the Miami Film Festival in 2017.
