Miriam A. Hyman's abrupt exit from her role as Dre on The Chi has viewers wondering what made her leave the hit Showtime series.

Dre first arrived on The Chi during 2020's Season 3, stepping into a role as a co-parent to Alex R. Hibbert's Kevin and Birgundi Baker's Kiesha after marrying their mother, Tyra Abercrumbie's Nina Williams.

Working as a high school counselor, her role later shifted toward protecting her new family as the stakes continued to rise through the next four seasons.

Starz is Power-ing down a bit, ending another installment in the long-running crime drama franchise. The upcoming third season of Power Book IV: Force will be its last, TVLine has confirmed.

There is some good news, however — showrunner and executive producer Gary Lennon was given enough notice to craft a proper ending, so while fans may not want the show to end, at least they can take solace in knowing it won’t conclude on a cliffhanger.

The drama series saw a 65% surge in streaming viewership on Paramount+ with the debut of the first eight episodes of Season 6 on August 4.

In the first seven days, the Season 6 premiere drew more than 1.8M viewers, according to Paramount Global. That makes it the most-watched season premiere of The Chi to date.

One of Showtime's best series has a return date, and we're getting more episodes than before.

The premium cabler announced this week that The Chi Season 6 will get underway on Friday, August 4, streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime and on-demand, before making its on-air debut Sunday, August 6 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on Showtime.

Showtime revealed that the upcoming season would span 16 episodes after The Chi Season 5 reached new streaming highs.

But they won't be airing consecutively. Instead, Showtime is airing the 16-part season in two parts.

Starz has set a late summer premiere date for Season 2 of Power Book IV: Force. The third spinoff in the Power franchise starring Joseph Sikora as Tommy Egan will premiere its second season Friday, September 1 at midnight Et on the Starz app, Starz streaming and on-demand platforms and internationally on the Lionsgate+ premium streaming platform across Brazil, Spanish-speaking Latin America, the UK and Ireland. On linear, it will debut on Starz at 8 Pm Et/Pt in the U.S. and Canada.

The network also released a first look photo (see below) and new teaser trailer (watch above) in which Tommy (Sikora) doubles down on efforts to conquer Chicago’s drug world.

Showtime drama The Chi concluded its fifth season in September 2022. Rolando Boyce, who portrays Darnell in the show, recently revealed the show has begun filming season 6 in an Instagram picture.

Rolando Boyce, who portrays Emmett’s father, Darnell, uploaded a picture of himself to Instagram in a trailer with a jacket his character would likely wear hanging in the background. He captioned it, “Here we go!!! Season 6️ of The Chi; clocking in. Looking forward to another ride.”

Show creator Lena Waithe commented, “let’s go,” and Birgundi Baker, who portrays Emmett’s girlfriend Keisha, reacted with a confetti emoji.

Showtime has ordered a sixth season of “The Chi.”

Showtime has picked up a sixth season of The Chi, its popular drama series created and executive produced by Lena Waithe and executive produced by Common. The renewal comes while Season 5 is still airing, with new episodes dropping Fridays on streaming and on-demand and Sundays on the linear network, heading to the season finale, which will stream September 2 and premiere on-air two days later.

The Chi has been a digital standout from the start, with its series premiere setting a sign-up record for Showtime in December 2017. Five seasons in, the coming-of-age drama set in the South Side of Chicago remains a strong performer, with Season 5 on pace to set a new record for the series in streaming, growing that audience by over 20 from last season.

Carmela Zumbado (“Chicago Pd”), Miriam A. Hyman, Manuel Eduardo Ramierz, and Adrienne Walker (“Law &. Order: Organized Crime”) will all join the new season of the show as series regulars.

“Power Book IV: Force” follows fan-favorite “Power” character Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) after he leaves New York following the original series finale. But what was supposed to be a quick stop in Chicago quickly spirals into Tommy being pulled into the city’s drug game. The series also stars Isaac Keys, Lili Simmons, Gabrielle Ryan, Shane Harper, Kris D. Lofton, Anthony Fleming III, Lucien Cambric, and Tommy Flanagan.

News of the renewal comes just after the series aired its Season 4 finale. Per Showtime, the series is averaging 4.2 million viewers per episode this season.

Season 4 spotlights the benefits and challenges of community policing on the South Side after Jake (Michael V. Epps) has a fateful run-in with a group of officers. Newlyweds Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Tiff (guest star Hannaha Hall) deal with the repercussions from his affair with Dom (guest star La La Anthony) by exploring open marriage. Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) grapple with her pregnancy, while Jada (Yolonda Ross) bravely faces a health crisis. The relationship between Kevin (Alex Hibbert) and Jemma (guest star Judae’a Brown) takes a turn, and Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.) launches a new podcast venture. Exclusive: Eric Roberts and newcomer Jequan Jackson will star in foster care drama No More Goodbyes, directed by James Ganiere and written by Rebekah Ganiere.

The pic follows sixteen-year-old Mark (Jackson) who, after his foster mother dies, goes on the run with his foster brother Tristan (played by Christian Ganiere), a young boy with Autism and Ptsd in order for them to stay together and not become separated by the system. However, Mark finds out that keeping him and his brother together is going to be harder than it looks. They must rely on each other and a gruff stranger, a retired military veteran named Stan, seeking his own redemption, in an effort to keep their family from being torn apart and the truth from being discovered.

Tom Nowicki, Miriam A. Hyman, Sal Velez Jr, Michael Patrick Lane (Tully) Petri Byrd (Judge Judy), Stacy Haiduk Ethan McDowell, Zuri Starks (Valley of the Zombies), Sunday Curry (The Price of Fame) and Starletta DuPois round out the cast.

The film aims to explore foster care in the United States, where a child is entered into the system every two minutes. Of the children that reach the age of eighteen and age out of the system without being adopted, half of them will end up in prison within two years, one in five will become homeless, and only 3 percent of those children will go on to earn a college degree.

The Ganieres are producing the pic via their Rio Vista Universal label with a plan to put it through the festival circuit.

Showtime also announced a $500,000 donation by the network and ViacomCBS on behalf of The Chi. The Chi With Love will air on the series’ YouTube page on Sunday, June 21 at 7 Pm Et/4 Pm Pt, ahead of The Chi‘s on-air season premiere at 9 Pm Et.
