"That's so shallow. I love this for you." Universal has revealed an official trailer for a direct-to-vod sex comedy called The List, which looks as cheesy and cliche as you might expect from that title. It's written by two men, because of course it is, though it's directed by Melissa Miller Costanzo. After her fiance sleeps with a celebrity on his "free pass" list, Abby, with nothing but five names and the fantasies shared by millions, sets out for Los Angeles to sleep with someone from hers. Just as she starts to get close to living the ultimate dream in La La Land, things become complicated when Abby meets Jake, a waiter with big dreams of his own, who offers a fresh perspective. Starring Halston Sage as Abby, Christian Navarro, Lucy DeVito, Clark Backo, and Chrissie Fit, plus the hot guys: Rich Morrow as Mac West, Gregg Sulkin as Cooper,...

The new trailer for Universal’s romantic comedy “The List” teases Halston Sage and Christian Navarro finding love in a hopeless place – Los Angeles.
Abby (Sage) wasn’t expecting to add Jake (Navarro) to her dating itinerary, but after a rough breakup leads to her building a list of celebrity “free passes” and traveling to Los Angeles to court the rich and famous, his ambition and charm catches her off guard and flips her expectations of love on their head.
The romcom charts Abby’s personal reinvention when her fiancé cheats on her and sleeps with a celebrity on his “free pass” list. She and her best friend Chloe (Chrissie Fit) then come up with Abby’s own celebrity list of men to sleep with. But while tracking down a leading Hollywood man type, a waiter named Jake has her rethinking exactly what she’s looking for in a partner.

Every romantic comedy has its left-turn hook, right? For the new upbeat rom-com “The List,” the fishhook is the enticing but also possibly dreadful celebrity “free pass,” wherein a couple agrees that if a certain actor is on their “free pass” list, they would be able to have sex with them, no strings attached should that fantasy ever happen. But all fantasies can backfire, right? Sort of like asking your gf if you can have an open relationship, and she immediately says, “Yes!”

The Roman Catholic Church combats a global rise in demonic possessions by reopening schools to train priests to perform exorcisms. Although nuns are forbidden to perform this ritual, a professor recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline, she soon finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl who’s possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years earlier.
Am I the only one who was under the impression that the subgenre of possession horror films had died off a long time ago by now? Sadly, that’s not the case as it seems, as we now have a brand new one in the form of Prey for the Devil, directed by Daniel Stamm and for some reason,...

Prey for the Devil is out in cinemas now, and to mark its release we had the pleasure of speaking to leading stars Jacqueline Byers and Christian Navarro. We delve into the themes of the movie such as exorcism, and what the actors’ respective research methods were. Meanwhile Byers talks about why the horror genre is such a strong breeding ground for complex female roles, and the effect starring in a horror movie has had on them both as audience members. Navarro also speaks about his experience on 13 Reasons Why and how that has set him in good stead for the remainder of his career, while whether they both believe the horror genre is underrated within the industry.

While North America carves up their pumpkins for Halloween, Dwayne Johnson is still carving up the box office.
Warner Bros.’ “Black Adam” is expected to repeat in the No. 1 spot over a quiet Halloween weekend, beating out Lionsgate’s seasonal horror release “Prey for the Devil.”
The DC Comics entry earned 7.5 million on Friday, marking a 72 fall from its opening day last week. Some rivals expect the Warner Bros. release to earn 24 million in its sophomore weekend.
That figure would mark a substantial 63 drop from last week’s opening of 67 million. Even for a superhero film — a genre that tends to yield front-loaded box office performances — that’s on the heftier side. It’s a good bit steeper than the second weekend tumbles of recent comic book films like “The Batman” (-50) and “Eternals” (-62). Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” held...

New Line/DC’s Black Adam ends its first week with 83.4M, which is slightly ahead of what Dwayne Johnson’s Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw did in its first week at 83.1M. That’s impressive considering that this is a deeper universe DC character, and the other was connected to a long-established franchise, not to mention it debuted in the summer. Hobbs & Shaw ended its domestic run at 173.9M. The pic’s second weekend was 36.5M, and currently Black Adam is expected to come in lighter at 27M-30M in weekend two. The anti-hero’s Thursday gross was 3.1M, -8 from Wednesday.

Plot: Demonic possessions are rising, so the Catholic Church has put exorcist training courses on the fast track. But Sister Ann, a nun with a personal history of it, is forbidden to train until that personal history comes back in a dangerous way.
Review:The exorcist sub-genre has always lived in the immense shadow of 1973’s The Exorcist. Like Jaws for shark movies, exorcism is culturally linked to one main entry and has set the bar high on quality and execution. It’s hard not to compare Prey for the Devil to Friedkin’s classic in some way. And though director Daniel Stamm plays within a well-worn toy chest, he still delivers a fun popcorn experience. It may lean more toward the pop aesthetic James Wan ushered in, in terms of jump scares than deep terror, but it’s still a fun time if you go in knowing it’s that type of flick.

Twelve years ago director Daniel Stamm was considered in some quarters as having revivified a subgenre with “The Last Exorcism.” That sleeper hit that was no classic, but it took itself seriously in the right ways, as put across by a good cast including the estimable (and still underused) Ashley Bell. Since 2014’s less successful “13 Sins,” he’s been occupied with episodic TV work. Unsurprisingly, his first feature in eight years marks a return to the general terrain that worked for him before.
“Prey for the Devil” won’t likely spur enthusiasm equal to Stamm’s breakout film, despite the relative novelty value of being built around a female exorcist — something not so unprecedented (at least onscreen) as billed, last year’s Veracruz-set “The Old Ways” being just one other example. Still, even if it falls short of being particularly memorable or scary, this is a decently entertaining possession potboiler.

A tale as old as time; a Catholic church representative must battle their inner demons to save the soul of a possessed child. Prey for the Devil attempts to retell this tired story with the gimmick of an aspiring female exorcist but never manages to pull together a narrative cohesive or scary enough to rise above a patchwork of familiar possession horror tropes.
It’s 2018. Demonic possession cases have become so prevalent that the Catholic Church has created schools with the sole purpose of teaching priests the Rite of Exorcism while nuns act as bedside nurses to the possessed. Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) finds herself drawn to the role of exorcist, even sneaking into exclusive male classes taught by Father Quinn (Colin Salmon), to the chagrin of her superior. He's Watching: "Jacob Aaron Estes, who wowed audiences with Mean Creek and his Sundance 2019 darling Don't Let Go, offers up one of his most personal and thrilling tales yet with He's Watching, which lands on U.S. VOD next Thursday, July 21st, from XYZ Films.
Creating the project with his wife, musician Gretchen Lieberum, and children, Iris Serena Estes and Lucas Steel Estes, during the height of Covid-19 lockdown, the filmmaker originally conceived He's Watching as a way to stave off his family's boredom while trapped in their home.
What it became was much more than that.
When happy-go-lucky siblings Iris and Lucas (playing fictionalized versions of themselves) are left alone while their parents recover from an illness, a series of playful pranks they play on each other escalate when they start receiving unsettling images and videos on their phones. In episode 8 of the fourth season of “13 Reasons Why,” the students of Liberty High engage in a dramatic and violent encounter with members of the on-campus police force, a scene that — amid protests against racism and police brutality that have erupted around the world in recent days — feels oddly familiar.
Of course, it’s not a timeliness that star Dylan Minnette, who plays Clay Jensen, could have anticipated when the Netflix show filmed last year.
“It was definitely a commentary on the same themes, on police brutality and racial discrimination,” says Minnette on “Variety Live!”
Season 4, which premiered earlier in June, ended on a bittersweet, even optimistic note. After grappling with the unexpected death of his adopted brother Justin, Clay drives off to college with his best friend Tony (played by Christian Navarro), a callback to one of the first scenes in Season 1.

13 Reasons Why Season 4 arrives on Netflix in one week, and the streamer has dropped a new sneak peak.
The clip involves Winston (Deaken Bluman) trying to get answers from Ani (Grace Saif) following Monty's death.
"Tell me what really happened and I swear to you I'll never mention it again, to anyone," he sais to a clearly shocked Ani.
"Just tell me what really happened."
Unfortunately for Winston, Ani has the best poker face out there, and gives him the following response:
"I don't know."
It's an awkward scene, for sure, and Winston leaves with the following:
"Why lie to me? What good does that do?"
Indeed, there would be no show if these teenagers told the truth.
Through three seasons, we've had a suicide, an almost school shooting, sexual assault, and murder.
It's been an exhausting series, and with us heading into the final season, there has to be some consequences for the characters.
