Fear Is the Rider: Ben Mendelsohn, Toby Wallace, & more join Abbey Lee in Australian Outback slasher
Nearly three years have passed since it was first announced that Abbey Lee (Old) and Christopher Abbott (Possessor) had signed on to star in the Australian Outback thriller Fear Is the Rider, which is coming to us from John Michael McDonagh, the BAFTA-nominated writer/director of the 2011 film The Guard… and while the project has lost Abbott in that time, it’s still alive, and Abbey Lee is still attached to star in it. Deadline reports that Lee has now been joined in the cast by Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One), Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders), and Eliza Scanlen (Babyteeth). Film Constellation and CAA Media Finance will be seeking distribution deals at this week’s American Film Market.
McDonagh’s plan is to make a trilogy of Fear Is the Rider thrillers – and if you look at the synopses provided, you’ll see that the current version of the film...

Fear is the Rider, described as an ode to “gore-drenched Ozploitation slashers of the 1970s,” sees a woman pursued in the Australian Outback by a pack of ruthless serial killers. While that already has our attention, Deadline reports the nod to gory slashers has lined up an impressive cast so far.
Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One), Abbey Lee, Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders) and Eliza Scanlen (Caddo Lake) have been cast in lead roles.
As for plot, the film follows “a lone woman, searching for her missing mother, who is pursued into the Australian Outback by a terrifying family of serial killers, with only an ex-con and a young girl willing to help her.”
Fear is the Rider is an adaptation of the novel The Hunted by Gabriel Bergmoser, written and directed by John Michael McDonagh‘s (The Guard).

South Korean Bong Joon-ho swept the global cinema scene with his hit film Parasite, becoming the first non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, alongside winning Best International Picture. Bong’s career has been on the rise since then, and he was hired by Warner Bros. to write and direct an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7. The movie is going to be titled Mickey 17, and it was originally scheduled for a March 29, 2024 release, which was pushed back to January 28, 2025, supposedly due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike and delays in post-production, but that might not be the real reason.
The scoop we have for you is still a rumor, but it comes from our trusted industry insider Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK), who is known for his accurate predictions and insider reveals. Daniel has recently explained that there might be a more complex reason for the film’s delay,...

Robert Pattinson is one of the finest acting talents Hollywood has. From fantasy movies like Twilight and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to sci-fi movies like Tenet, he has proved his range as an actor. With versatility as his middle name, the British actor has now taken up another challenging role.
Robert Pattinson starred as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman
Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho chose Pattinson to play the lead role in his film titled Mickey 17. The film is being described as a sci-fi plot with a complex narrative. A filmmaker of Joon-ho’s stature could have picked any actor in the world for the role. But apparently, there was something that drew him into casting Pattinson.

British thriller Jackdaw, which stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Jenna Coleman, is coming to cinemas 26 January.
Jamie Childs’ ambitious British thriller Jackdaw received its world premiere at the 2023 Fantastic Fest, but UK audiences won’t have a chance to see the film until 2024. Jackdaw is now scheduled to be released on 26 January.
Starring Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Jenna Coleman, the film revolves around a former motocross champion and army veteran who agrees to deliver a mysterious package on behalf of a local criminal, but things don’t go quite as planned. Do they ever?
There’s a trailer too, which you can watch below.
Jackson-Cohen and Coleman recently starred together in Prime Video’s thriller series Wilderness, which found the couple playing married couple. There are touches of Fellini and Satyajit Ray in the gentle, unforced artistry of Aktan Abdykalykov’s film, which casts the director’s son in the title role
The admirable Klassiki streaming service, in response to some modest proposals from myself, is now showcasing five movies from central Asian film-makers, and the first is this absolute gem from Kyrgyzstan. It is an autobiographical movie by writer-director Aktan Abdykalykov, much acclaimed on the European festival circuit on first release in 1998: a very personal and immediate film, but with the mystery and calm of a folk tale. It’s a story of the director’s own childhood, and he casts his own teenage son Mirlan as himself. Beshkempir has the fluency and candour of something by Satyajit Ray and its ecstatic retrieval of memory makes me think of Fellini’s Amarcord.

Grimsby Town Football Club may not be owned by Hollywood superstars like Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney but they’re looking to rival the duo’s Wrexham AFC on TV screens.
Propagate International, the distribution division of Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens’ production company, has taken the global rights to All Town Aren’t We, a three-part docuseries about the British football club.
The doc, which is produced by Shush Films, will cover the team’s 2021-2022 season, where they beat Wrexham in the semi-finals of the playoffs to achieve an instant return to the Football League.
While the team only finished sixth in the National League that season, they defeated Notts County in the quarter finals and Reynolds and McElhenney’s Wrexham on their way to beating Solihull Moors to win promotion to League Two.

Stephen Graham is showing off his newly bulging biceps. “He’s like Popeye,” says his wife, Hannah Walters, on her way to the fridge. “Just give him a can and he pops it and crushes it.” It’s breakfast time in the couple’s home in a former mining town in Leicestershire, and the This Is England star is being teased by the love of his life, as he chats to me from the kitchen counter.
He does have impressive (tattooed) muscles to show off, though, as a result of intensive training for the role of a hardened pugilist in the forthcoming A Thousand Blows, written by Steven “Peaky Blinders” Knight, which the couple are producing together. They chat and spar as we talk, with Graham paying tribute to Walters for getting Knight involved: “I thought, ‘No chance!’ It was all down to that wonderful woman who’s eating cereal there.

Exclusive: Rlje Films has acquired U.S. rights to Creation Stories, the rock biopic of Creation Records creator and founder Alan McGee that is directed by Nick Moran and stars Trainspotting alum Ewen Bremner. That’s one of several connections to the that 1996 film; Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh co-wrote the Creation Stories script with Dean Cavanagh, and Trainspotting director Danny Boyle is among the executive producers.
The deal comes ahead of the film’s premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Kirsty Mitchell, Suki Waterhouse, Thomas Turgoose, Leo Flanagan and Jason Isaacs also star in the Metro International Entertainment pic, which charts the true story of the rise and fall of McGee, credited as responsible for supplying the “Brit Pop” soundtrack to the 1990s, a decade of cultural renaissance known as Cool Britannia. Sky One sci-fi Intergalactic is part conspiracy thriller, part prison break drama, and all space romp. It’s set 150 years in the future, when all of Earth’s nations have united into a single authority known as the Commonworld, and a new element has enabled Earth’s people to escape ecological collapse and colonise other planets via intergalactic travel. Over eight episodes, available to stream as a box-set on Now, we follow a group of female fugitives searching for freedom and uncovering long-buried lies.
The cast has been gathered from far and wide, ranging from relative newcomers to TV like Diany Samba-Bandza to more familiar faces Natasha O’Keeffe, Thomas Turgoose and Eleanor Tomlinson, and established actors Parminder Nagra, Craig Parkinson and Neil Maskell. Here’s who everybody is playing, and the major roles where you may have encountered them before.

This week marks the launch of new Sky Original series Intergalactic, and to mark the occasion we had the pleasure of speaking to several members of this illustrious ensemble. Below find interviews with Parminder Nagra (Bend it Like Beckham) and Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty), as well as Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Rogue One) and Oliver Coopersmith (Tin Star), before ending on Thomas Turgoose (This is England).
We discuss everything, ranging from the remarkable sets the actors worked on, to the costumes, and the characters they’ve been given. We talk about the film’s strong, empowering feminist approach, and why even though who turn up their nose to science-fiction, ought to give this one a go. We ask whether the actors were able to nab any memorabilia from the shoot, and we even chat to Parkinson about Line of Duty. Enjoy!

Sky One’s new sci-fi drama series, Intergalactic, features a cast as stellar as its out-of-this-world settings. On a visit to its impressive set at Manchester’s appropriately named Space Studios, we got to chat to some of the actors who are boldly going into the depths of a fascinating galaxy. For those of us whose biggest source of excitement this past year has been a trip to the shops, it’s a tempting proposition.
The show’s key characters are a ragtag bunch of prisoners aboard the transport ship Hemlock and their guards. They’re forging a new future after they make a break for freedom, with a futuristic Earth’s authoritarian government in hot pursuit. The lively, larky chemistry between the actors is evident from the minute they come bounding in, covered in alarmingly realistic fake blood after filming the violent aftermath of a parasite infestation. Ah, Hartlepool. The town where they hung a monkey many moons ago, and is also the setting for that golden oldie of comic strips, Andy Capp (there’s even a statue of the great man himself). With Looted, we have a film that’s another great ad for the local tourist board, but not much more.
Don’t get me wrong; it’s not that bad, but it’s all just a little bit lacklustre.
Rob (Charley Palmer Rothwell) is a young man with a lot on his mind. He lives at home with his dad, Oswald (Tom Fisher), and is also his full-time carer. Outside of this, he’s in a gang of friends that include Leo (Thomas Turgoose) and Kasia (Morgane Polanski). Their escapades mean that they frequently find themselves on the other side of the law, and all the time Rob has to come up with an...

An impressive film about a pair of car thieves in the north of England combines social commentary, poignant drama and lyrical cinematography
Petty criminal Rob (Charley Palmer Rothwell) has a busier schedule than most gainfully employed people in this affecting debut feature from director Rene van Pannevis. He and best mate Leo (Thomas Turgoose) steal cars for profit and pleasure, often with Leo’s giggling girlfriend, Kasia, along for the ride.
Life is less of a lark at home, where Rob is the sole carer for his terminally ill father, Oswald (Tom Fisher), a former merchant seaman who has been abandoned to asbestos-related lung disease by his negligent employer. Oswald believes – or perhaps just vainly hopes – that Rob is out looking for work during the days. There’s not much of that about in their small, port-town home.

Looted is a great new British indie that echoes the style and grit of the likes of Shane Meadows and Clio Barnard, and to mark the release (now VOD given latest lockdown measures) we spoke to its two leading stars, Charley Palmer Rothwell, and Thomas Turgoose.
The former talks about how much of himself he put into the role, and just how committed he was to this project. Meanwhile Turgoose talks about how he accessed the character of Leo, and talks about coming through the Shane Meadows school of acting, and how that has set him up in his career (and just how much he misses his This is England co-stars).
The pair also talk about doing accents, lockdown lifestyles, and we ask Charley about his time spent working with Chris Nolan on Dunkirk.
Watch the full interview with both Charley and Thomas below:

"I'm not gonna be around for much longer..." "Don't say that." Bulldog Film Distribution from the UK has released an official trailer for an indie British crime thriller titled Looted, which originally premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival late last year. Looted is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Rene van Pannevis, whose short film Jacked won the BIFA in 2016. The film is a semi-autobiographical account of Rene's own experiences with his father - and living on the fringes of a criminal group as a young man. Rob lives his life at 100mph, carefully balancing carjacking schemes and joyrides and caring for his dying father. But one risky job could bring it all crashing down. The film stars Charley Palmer Rothwell as Rob, with Thomas Turgoose, Morgane Polanski, Anders Hayward, Stephen Uppal, and Tom Fisher. This seems like a well-made, worthwhile UK film with some excellent performances leading the way.

Well sh*t… Scott Adkins just had to go and step it up a notch with this very Brutal, very British, hugely funny and fairly orginal Brit crime drama. Boasting a superb leading man performance from Adkins and a delightful supporting cast of top Brit talent.
So I saw the trailer, then I read the synopsis, I looked into the cast list and instanly thought ‘Well I know how this is going to go’. However I do love a lot of the cast involved in the flick and I am known to enjoy a good Brit crime thriller. Add to this Adkins has never failed to deliver when it comes to punch-y,...
