José Lázaro Brañas
- Additional Crew
- Camera and Electrical Department
- Second Unit Director or Assistant Director
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Jose began studying Film at Miami
Dade College (North campus), first majoring in Architecture. In his
forth year he began having doubts on weather he'd like to spend his
future as an architect. Taking almost a year to decide what his next
move would be, he suddenly discovered that MDC, had a film program,
established four years earlier, he enrolled, immediately. Film
production was more fulfilling for him, and he began to immerse himself
in his studies, sometimes studying seven days a week. Learning every
aspect of the film industry from writing, production, and distribution.
His passion was writing, directing, and production planning. His skills
in architecture helped him push the narratives from concept to reality,
with detailed sketches of the locations, also drawing floor plans of
the interior sets for the crew. At MDC he spent two years, after the
first year he began working at MDC to support himself, and then began
studying photography as well. Deciding to continue his studies, soon
after he graduating from MDC, he began working at the University of
Miami; working full-time at UM he decided his next goal was to get his
Bachelor's degree. After six months of working he began his studies
again, full-time. During his time at UM he worked hard, almost barely
having time for school, trying to hold a full-time job and full-time
studies was a challenge, but, after four years he finished and received
his Bachelor's. It was not long after he received his degree that he
felt the need for a change, he soon left UM and began work in the
industry as a set production assistant in Miami. He currently lives
Miami, but travels to Los Angeles when need, and works throughout the
state of Florida.
