Lawrence O’Donnell was not happy about his showing being delayed by a minute on Wednesday night (August 28) and let his MSNBC colleague Ayman Mohyeldin know about it. O’Donnell, who hosts The Last Word at 10 pm Et, was kept waiting after Mohyeldin went a little overtime on his final segment. As reported by Mediaite, Mohyeldin wrapped up his final interview with his guest at around 10:01 before tossing to O’Donnell. “Good evening, Ayman, thanks. We’re about a minute over time with that one. Thank you,” O’Donnell said. While the long-time news anchor was smiling, there was certainly an air of awkwardness in the exchange. “Sorry about that,” Mohyeldin replied before the camera cut to O’Donnell, who began his show. Fans reacted to the icy segment, with one X user writing, “I saw that. Lawrence will get over it. His show did just fine in fact. Besides, I...

Biden Decision Surprised Most TV News Networks: How CBS, MSNBC and More Scrambled to Cover Bombshell
Many of them knew it was coming, but not exactly when.
The nation’s big TV-news outlets appear to have been caught flat-footed by President Joe Biden’s Sunday announcement that he would end his 2024 campaign for the White House, with many top anchors not visible on screen in the minutes after the president dropped his bombshell.
Broadcast networks fielded faces that were not as familiar. CBS News broke into programming at 2:02 p.m. with coverage lead by Kristine Johnson, an anchor at Wcbs, the company’s New York station, suggesting Norah O’Donnell, Margaret Brennan or Major Garrett were not immediately available (O’Donnell and Brennan joined about 45 minutes later). NBC News put up a special report 30 seconds later anchored by Hallie Jackson, who was recently named to lead weekend broadcasts of “NBC Nightly News.” ABC News broke in at 2:04 p.m. with coverage led by Rachel Scott, its senior congressional correspondent.

MSNBC personality Mehdi Hasan has opted to leave the network, following the November cancellation of his Sunday-night series The Mehdi Hasan Show.
“As we begin 2024 with an election coming, a war still ongoing, and too many Trump trials honestly to even keep track of, and with this show going away, I’ve decided it’s time for me to look for a new challenge,” Hasan said during his final broadcast on Sunday. “Tonight is not just my final episode of The Mehdi Hasan Show. Medhi Hasan is exiting MSNBC. The anchor, whose final show on the news cabler aired on Sunday, announced his exit at the end of the telecast. The news came after MSNBC late last year that it had canceled the outspoken Hasan’s show.
“Some personal news: I’ve decided to leave Msbnc. New year, new plans, new challenges,” he wrote on the X/Twitter platform.
“It’s been an absolute blast doing this live show on MSNBC for the past three years,” Hasan said. “But as we begin 2024 with an election coming, a war still ongoing and too many Trump trials honestly to even keep track of, and with this show going away, I’ve decided it’s time for me to look for a new challenge. Mehdi Hasan said that he is leaving MSNBC after the network canceled his weekend show.
“I’ve decided that it’s time for me to look for a new challenge,” he said at the end of his program on Sunday.
The network shuffled its weekend lineup last year, dropping his weekend show while saying that he would remain as a commentator and fill-in anchor. With his hard hitting interview, he had been considered a rising star. But his commentary, particularly about Israel, has sparked controversy. That included a contentious interview earlier this month with Mark Regev, an adviser to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

MSNBC is overhauling its weekend lineup ahead of the 2024 election season.
The biggest change is a new morning panel show, called The Weekend, which will be hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez and Michael Steele. The program will run from 8-10 a.m. and originate from Washington D.C., with Kyle Griffin as executive producer.
Sanders-Townsend and Menendez currently host weekend afternoon hours on MSNBC, but will shift to focus on the morning show.
“As we emerge from a multitude of historic events these past months, we have an opportunity to build on our accomplishments and keep the momentum going into 2024 and beyond,” MSNBC president Rashida Jones wrote to staff at the channel Thursday morning, outlining the plans.
The new schedule will also bring a wave of adjustments to the lineups on both Saturday and Sunday.
Two current MSNBC weekend hosts will be losing their hours: Mehdi Hasan, who will give up his 8 p.

MSNBC is shaking up its weekend schedule as CNN’s Saturday and Sunday offerings continue to provide strong competition.
The NBCUniversal cable-news outlet plans to a launch a new panel show, “The Weekend,” co-moderated by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Michael Steele that will air Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and will cancel a nighttime show anchored by the outspoke Mehdi Hasan. Those move will not only consolidate anchors who had been active on the weekend schedule in their own time slots, but leave room for broad change.
MSNBC’s weekend schedule has long been edged out by CNN among viewers between 25 and 54 — the audience most coveted by advertisers in news programming. CNN launched a new Saturday-morning lineup in November featuring Victor Blackwell,. Chris Wallace and Christiane Amanpour, and paced ahead of MSNBC in both that demographic and total viewers, according to recent data from Nielsen.

Amid the mounting tragedy in the Middle East, Fox News and CNN are the early winners in the cable network ratings battle, flexing their on-the-ground foreign reporting muscles, while MSNBC suffered a fall-off at the beginning of the conflict from which it has yet to recover.
In the immediate aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas terrorists in Israel, in which they massacred over 1,400 Israeli citizens, all three cable news channels saw viewership boosts of varying degrees, but Fox and CNN saw the main benefit.
From Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, Fox News scored 1.57 million average total viewers, a 22% increase from the week of Oct. 7. MSNBC secured second place with 766,000 viewers, a 20% decrease for the network from the week prior. MSNBC has pushed back against a Semafor report that it sidelined Muslim anchors Mehdi Hasan, Ayman Mohyeldin, and Ali Velshi while covering the Israel-Hamas war.
“We have and will continue to cover the barbaric terrorist attacks on defenseless civilians in Israel last weekend and the tragic war it has provoked thoroughly and in all their dimensions,” an NBCU News Group spokesperson told TheWrap on Monday.
A network source denied that Hasan, Velshi, and Mohyeldin were “benched” or “silenced” over their beliefs on the conflict, saying there was “no truth” to those reports.
Velshi has been reporting from the ground in Israel and served as anchor from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Mohyeldin has appeared on multiple MSNBC programs throughout the network’s coverage of the war. He was in the anchor chair from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and appeared Monday on “Katy Tur Reports.”

MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan has seen the disparaging responses to “Barbie” from various conservative male figureheads — from Ted Cruz to Ben Shapiro to Piers Morgan — and finds the whole thing “pretty pathetic.”
Joined by fellow MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin on “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” Hasan admitted on Monday’s episode that he is “semi-enjoying watching the male conservative meltdown over the ‘Barbie’ movie,” but that it makes him question where the conservative movement as a whole went awry.
“These are grown men losing their minds over a movie about a doll. What has happened to the conservative movement?” he bemoaned. “There was a time when conservatives had substantive things to say about taxes, regulation, defense, foreign policy. But now it’s just, ‘Barbie this, Dr. Seuss that.’ Bud Light, Mr. Potato Head, the skin color of the Little Mermaid. It’s ridiculous, it’s childish. It’s pretty pathetic, actually.

Zerlina Maxwell is leaving MSNBC.
Maxwell, one of the first anchors to launch an all-streaming program for the NBCUniversal-backed news outlet, announced her departure on social media Tuesday. MSNBC decided to cancel her program last month, marking some of the first cutbacks to its streaming ambitions. A program led by Ayman Mohyeldin was also canceled, but he is expected to remain as a weekend host on MSNBC’s cable network.
Executives had hoped Maxwell, a Democratic activist and former campaign aide to Hillary Clinton would stay on in an analyst role. But she appears to have declined. “My last episode of @zerlinashow on 9/15 next week will also be my last day at @msnbc,” she posted Tuesday. The anchor thanked her production team for the ability to use our show and my voice to put the spotlight on black and brown communities that are not often considered in mainstream conversations.

Symone D. Sanders spent a good portion of the past two years of her life touting the accomplishments of the Biden campaign and administration to TV-news personalities. Come Spring, she will be one of those pundits.
MSNBC has hired Sanders, who at age 32 has already worked as a media strategist in two different presidential campaigns and as the senior press spokesperson for U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, to anchor a program that airs on cable during the weekends and on streaming video during some other days of the week. She’s the latest personality to join the NBCUniversal-backed cable-news outlet under a new top executive, Rashida Jones, as executives seek to gain traction in new-media spaces while facing turnover among some of the network’s most familiar personalities.
Going from the vicinity of the White House to a TV-news gig is a well-trod path for prominent White House aides.

MSNBC die-hards tune in partially because they know what they can expect on most evenings: Rachel Maddow will do her 22 minutes of connecting-the-dots news-cycle analysis at 9 p.m., and Brian Williams will wrap up the day with a vast array of knowledgeable experts at 11.
Starting next year, however, fans — and even the executives who run the place — can’t be sure what they’re going to get.
Williams announced Tuesday that he will walk away from MSNBC and NBC News after a near three-decade run, while Maddow is negotiating over a new production deal that could result in a significant scaling back of her primetime duties. The NBCUniversal-owned cable-news network needs to decide by the end of the year what they want to put in the slot currently known as “The 11th Hour,” and likely by May of next year, how they might replace Maddow in their primetime lineup.

The job of the modern TV-news anchor may have less to do with TV as information junkies get their fixes and facts from a wider array of media venues.
The days of watching a popular anchor like Dan Rather solely on a broadcast program like venerable “CBS Evening News” are quickly fading. The daytime schedule is not changing, but the MSNBC Live banner will be eliminated in favor of featuring the name of each hour’s anchor in the title along with “Reports” to show that the personalities are network journalists. So the daytime programming will start with Stephanie Ruhle Reports at 9 Am Et, followed by Hallie Jackson Reports, then Craig Melvin Reports. Andrea Mitchell’s show at noon will remain Andrea Mitchell Reports, as will Mtp Daily with Chuck Todd.
The afternoon will feature Katy Tur Reports at 2 Pm Et, followed by Ayman Mohyeldin Reports. Weekends will feature Kendis Gibson and Lindsey Reiser Report from 6 to 8 Am, Alex Witt Reports from noon to 3 Pm Et, and Yasmin Vossoughian Reports from 3 to 5 Pm.

Sunday night’s Grammys featured a slew of incredible performances, but there was one the stood out above all others. Yes, it happened — Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion performed “Wap” live on primetime television.
Before the performance, the main question was simply How the duo would be able to pull off the song, considering its explicit lyrics. The answer was simple: they replaced most of the words and bleeped out the ones that couldn’t be easily replaced. In fact, the changes brought the duo’s lip syncing — a common practice at the Grammys — into sharp focus for some.
But the big question after the performance? How conservatives would react to the display.
republicans are gonna be soooo mad after the cardi/meg performance. and i Love that. pic.twitter.com/43GcAsElip

At long last, it’s Election Day. Finally, we’ve arrived at the end of this extraordinarily stressful presidential election cycle. It may not be a quick ending — it’ll depend on whether early results in key states give us a clear winner in this race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump — but it should be an ending nonetheless. NBC News and MSNBC will, as you probably would expect, be giving the election the Super Bowl treatment, with dedicated coverage blocs that will go all night.

Nicolle Wallace’s Deadline: White House will expand to two hours and Chuck Todd’s Mtp Daily will move to early afternoon as part of MSNBC’s overhaul of its daily lineup.
The changes, which have been anticipated, mean that the afternoons will start with Andrea Mitchell Reports at noon Et, followed by Mtp Daily at 1 Pm. Katy Tur’s 2 Pm hour will remain in place, and that will be followed by a 3 Pm show anchored by Ayman Mohyeldin, a foreign correspondent who has been co-anchoring an early-morning show. Variety first reported on the plans.
The new lineup will launch on Aug. 19, the first day of the Democratic National Convention.
Todd also will expand the Meet the Press brand into streaming, with plans for a weekly program set to launch in September that will appear on NBC News Now and Peacock, the recently launched NBCUniversal streaming service. Todd also will...

If it’s good wi-fi, it’s “Meet The Press.”
Chuck Todd, who has moderated NBC News’ Sunday-morning public affairs program since the fall of 2014, and worked a weekday version of the show on MSNBC since 2015, will now expand the series to streaming video. With the maneuver, NBC News is taking a new swing at breaking down walls in the TV business that have kept the best-known news anchors from taking on more duties in the industry’s newest spaces.
Starting in September, Todd will launch a weekly political program on both live-streaming outlet NBC News Now as well as NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming-video hub, just in time to dovetail with what is likely to be rising interest in the 2020 presidential election. Todd will also start anchoring pre- and post-event programming around big political-news nights, starting with the Democratic and Republican conventions later this month, and, in coming weeks, around debates and Election Night.

A petition demanding MSNBC fire reporter Ayman Mohyeldin, who came under scrutiny after suggesting Israeli police fatally shot an unarmed Palestinian man in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem earlier this month, has garnered more than 27,000 signatures online. “Ayman has systematically provided biased reporting for NBC over the years, with his journalism frequently shown to be misleading and inaccurate under scrutiny,” the Change.org petition reads. Bassel Sidar, 19, was shot dead by Israeli Border Police in Jerusalem after a failed stabbing attack on Oct. 14. Mohyeldin, who was reporting live from the scene immediately after the incident, said on the air that he.

As younger audiences’ list of TV, desktop, tablet, mobile, and social content options grow by the day, legacy and new media executives are bending backward and forward to earn their eyeballs.
On TV news, the youngest audience is around 58, higher than the 18-49 and 25-54 age demo sweet spot advertisers desire. On the high end, a variety of news networks’ audiences skew even older, hovering close to 70.
With the knowledge that getting younger is now a matter of survival from extinction, some of the biggest news channels, print outlets, and digital news sites have developed their own networks and features...
