Another soggy mafia saga set in and around a Delhi business family, and one that compares very poorly with Kanu Behl's "Titli" and Shanker Raman's "Gurgaon", "Line Of Descent" leaves a puzzling, bitter 0aftertaste.
It's not such an awful film. It's just so unnecessary it resembles a fifth or sixth generation copy of "The Godfather" with Prem Chopra?giggle?playing Brando while Ronit Roy, Neeraj Kabi and Ali Haji play the three sons quite well. Abhay Deol, the well-meaning though ill-informed cop who busts the Sinha family's a**. And Hollywood has-been Brendan Fraser (the big daddy from original "The Mummy" franchise) makes an entry midway as an arms dealer of indeterminate race and an even more uncertain function in a plot that wants to be savage, funny, poignant and relevant, and trips over its own overweening ambitions.

"I can't die with sins buried in my soul." Gravitas has debuted a full Us trailer for a crime drama from India titled Line of Descent. Three brothers from a Delhi crime family feud over the future of their enterprise. Meanwhile, an undercover police officer attempts to end the family's legacy, and an arms dealer conspires with the brothers. As wacky as it sounds, Brendan Fraser plays the arms dealer - Charu. The cast includes Abhay Deol, Ronit Roy, Neeraj Kabi, Prem Chopra, Ali Haji, and Anisha Victor. Line of Descent is described as "a classic crime narrative in the backdrop of Delhi merges a dysfunctional, mafia family at war with each other as an undercover officer fights his demons by assisting in their downfall." This looks like your standard crime family epic, though I have to admit, Fraser's narration livens it up in just the right way. Here's the...

Noblemen
Starring Kunal Kapoor, Ali Haji, M K Raina
Directed by Vandana Kataria
Seeing a film without knowing much about its subject matter and the way the plot is likely to go, can sometimes put the audience in an awfully uncomfortable situation. The discomfort of the familiar is what we get in this week’s two releases. Article 15 takes us into a deep dive to witness the horrors of the caste system.
Noblemen takes us into another kind of grim and horrific reality. While campus bullying is an easily identifiable scourge of our social system, just how deep it runs is put forth by debutante director Vandana Kataria in a film that spares us none of the trauma and horror of a gentle soft gay 15-year old grappling with a school of homophobic bullies.
The performances, specially of the youngsters is delightfully unaffected. Ali Haji is seen in a splendid emotional swirl.

During the gala closing ceremony of the 17th edition of the Marrakech Intl. Film Festival, the Golden Star for best film was awarded to Sudabeh Mortezai for her second feature, “Joy,” about a young Nigerian woman forced into prostitution, which recently won best film at the BFI London Film Festival.
Accepting the prize from actress Monica Bellucci, she said: “I’d like to thank all the people who helped me make the movie, especially all the women who talked to me and told me their stories and helped me write the film, and the actresses who made the film with me. I’m very happy that, with this prize, this untold story will get greater visibility.”
The jury prize went to Lila Avilés’ debut feature, “The Chambermaid,” about Eve, a maid in Mexico City’s Hotel Presidente Internacional, which Avilés describes as a “high-class prison.”

Remember Ali Haji, who played Naina aka Lara Dutta's son Rohan in the 2007 comedy film Partner, has now grown up to be a good looking teenager. And after 9 years, the young lad who didn't like Prem aka Salman Khan in the film, had a sort of a reunion when he recently met the Dabangg Khan on the sets of his controversial reality TV show Bigg Boss 10. Ali Haji was very excited to meet his mentor and favourite superstar Salman after so many years and certainly made him nostalgic at that moment. Once cute, now dashing, Ali was looking dapper in formal sky blue shirt and black pants teamed up with a pair of black loafers.

Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'Paathshaala' and Ram Gopal Varma's 'Phoonk 2' have failed to set the ticket windows buzzing. While the former got an average initial footfall thanks to Shahid's presence, the horror seems to have fallen flat.
The lukewarm response from audiences comes despite round-the-clock promotional activities for both the movies. While Shahid visited various schools to promote 'Paathshaala', Varma organised a digitally monitored scare dare contest for anyone who would watch 'Phoonk 2' alone in the movie hall - but in vain.
"The content for both the movies has been average. While 'Paathshaala' was good with around 50 percent occupancy over the weekend, 'Phoonk 2' wasn't that good enough with just 20 percent footfalls," Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, told us.

Children's films without stars don't make it big at the box office and that's a prime reason why choreographer Ahmad Khan roped in Shahid Kapoor for his first production 'Paathshala'.'If Shahid Kapoor wasn't in 'Paathshala', it could become a documentary. The film is so serious and it's so beautiful. But people wouldn't have gone and watched just a children's film even though it deals with a serious issue,' Khan told Ians in an interview.Shahid has a nearly 40-minute appearance in the film.'Many people make many children's films, but not many become known ones. If Aamir Khan would have not been in 'Taare Zameen Par', that film would have got only limited exposure. Just because of Aamir's presence, it got a wider audience and so much appreciation.'If I would have made a general children's film, no one would have gone and seen it. But...
