Sophie van der Stap was born on June 11th 1983 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
After completing high school at Barlaeus Gymnasium, she embarked on a degree program in politics with a view to specializing in developmental aid until she was told in 2005 that she had a rare form of cancer.
In 2006 she wrote the book Girl with Nine Wigs, her fresh and candid account of her illness. It was a bestseller in The Netherlands and also stormed the charts internationally.
She is the international ambassador and spokesperson for Orange Ribbon International, the charity organization which primary mission is to make eradication of child cancer a priority.
In 2008 Sophie released her second novel, A Blue Butterfly Bids Farewell. In 2009/ 2010 Sophie is working on her third book. She spends most of her time in Paris.
The rights to the feature film adaptation of Girl with Nine Wigs have recently been acquired.
