Each year, What's Trending host Shira Lazar and her partner Bart Baker unveil and discuss the top viral videos of the past 12 months, with data from Tubular Labs serving as their guide. The 2017 edition of that annual tradition is now live, and it is a look back at some of the recent clips that most captivated viewers across YouTube, Facebook, and other video platforms.
Lazar and Baker's breakdown is separated across ten categories. The "Most Watched Facebook Video," for example, came from People Are Awesome, the brand known for its pulse-pounding compilations of incredible stunts. Meanwhile, the adorable short film In A Heartbeat (which Lazar and Baker are watching above), snagged the title "Animated Video Of The Year." Ultimately, Lazar and Baker reveal the most-viewed video of the year. This year, according to Tubular, that achievement belongs to a Latin music video that was inescapable throughout 2017.

Every year, the digital news channel What’s Trending teams up with the analysts at Tubular Labs to determine the videos, creators, channels, and brands that made the biggest impact on YouTube. The 2016 edition of that annual round-up is now live, and it’s a nice refresher of the trends that defined the online video industry over the past 12 months.
In the What’s Trending recap video of Tubular’s findings, host Shira Lazar highlights outstanding videos across 23 different categories. Her boyfriend, YouTube star and musician Bart Baker, shows up to offer some comic relief with a few snappy quips about each entry.
Between the world’s biggest soccer star, a toddler who loves toys, a giggly mom, and (of course) PewDiePie, 2016’s online video tastemakers were an interesting and diverse bunch.

At Stream Con NYC, which takes place between October 30th and November 1st at New York City’s Javits Center, several of the world’s most popular online video stars are in attendance. At the same time, the convention is playing host to creators who run smaller operations on sites like YouTube, Vine, Instagram, and Snapchat. These creators may not have millions of subscribers or instantly recognizable faces, but they have plenty of other qualities going for them. For brands, partnering with these “emerging” channels can be good business, as we learned during a Friday afternoon panel at Stream Con.
The three creators who sat on the panel in question--beauty guru Camille Johnson, comedian Lauren Giraldo, and vlogger Jordan Doww--all run mid-sized operations on YouTube. They were joined by Adam Hendle; Hendle is the General Manager of FameBit, a digital marketplace that connects content creators to relevant brands. Shira Lazar moderated.

Earlier this year, we covered fitness powerhouse Beachbody's "YouTube test group," where a set of top online video creators - including Jack Douglass, Bart Baker, Olga Kay, and Shira Lazar - collectively dropped over 100 pounds and 85 inches by way of Tony Horton's P90 program. The before and after photos seemed too good to be true—commenters cried 'air brush' and 'spray tan.' So when we caught wind of a new class of YouTubers for Beachbody's 21 Day Fix Extreme program with trainer Autumn Calabrese, we had to get an inside look at the process to make sure it was legit.
The new group underwent back-to-back twenty-one day programs and featured Jennifer Veal, SourceFed stars Lee Newton and Steve Zaragoza, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Rick Carter, Shane Dawson, and yours truly. Now the last time I covered a story as an embedded journalist, I did a ridealong with the Good Cops, and things went horribly wrong.

Veronica Belmont will soon be interviewing some of television’s most well-known acting talent. The popular online and Geek & Sundry show host will host a Facebook live stream of HBO’s Game of Thrones season five red carpet premiere on March 23, 2015.
Belmont will lead the stream which will be broadcast live from San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House. HBO says the majority of the Game of Thrones cast members will appear, including stars Emilia Clarke (who plays Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Gwendolyn Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark). Co-hosting the Facebook live stream alongside Belmont is Mara Raphael from Hln’s The Daily Share (a show which just snagged What’s Trending’s Shira Lazar as a west coast contributor).

What the daughter of a billionaire wants, the daughter of a billionaire gets ... just ask Shaquille O'Neal who says he'll probably come out of rap retirement to drop a verse for Anjali World. Anjali -- daughter of Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive -- appeared on "TMZ Hollywood Sports" last week and told us there was more than a 70% chance she could get The Diesel to dust off his mic and drop a couple bars on one of her songs.

The end of the year is upon us, which means it's time for media outlets to pick out the top videos of 2014. The latest channel undertaking that task is What's Trending, which has released a new video detailing Tubular Labs' picks for the most buzzed-about videos of the past 12 months.
In order to present Tubular's list, What's Trending host Shira Lazar brought YouTube prankster Yousef Erakat onto the program. Erakat, whose FouseyTUBE channel has more than 4.5 million subscribers, helped Lazar break down each entry on the list, though as a prankster, he seemed particularly interested in analyzing the "Mutant Giant Spider Dog" video YouTube chose as the top entry of 2014. "I guarantee you every prankster watched that," said Erakat, "and was like, 'why didn't I think of that?' Because it was genius."
Beyond the Polish prank, Lazar and Erakat discussed several other clips, channels, and trends chosen by Tubular Labs.

YouTube Nation has been met with a fair amount of skepticism. The daily video collaboration between YouTube and Dreamworks is meant to bring audiences (and, of course, advertisers) up to speed on what to watch on a video sharing site, to which a couple billion people around the world upload over 100 hours of content per minute. For one, individuals are skeptical because the premise is far from novel. Ray William Johnson has covered YouTube’s viral video circuit with aplomb since 2009. Phil DeFranco has given Gen Xers and Yers an informal, but informative take on current events, internet phenomenons, and ladies who are easy on the eyes by way of The Philip DeFranco Show since 2007 and by way of SourceFed since early 2012. Shira Lazar has interviewed burgeoning and established YouTube stars and personalities with household names on camera for internet audiences via What’s Trending since 2011. And a glut of...

Southern California isn’t exactly the first location that springs to mind when one thinks of a winter wonderland, but that didn’t stop the folks at YouTube Space La from turning their studios into a veritable White Christmas for this holiday season's annual #Tubeathon. Presented by What’s Trending in partnership with Ford and its FiestaMovement, the second annual iteration of #Tubeathon was held this past December 12th, 2013 to a capacity crowd and broadcast live to millions over the internet. The evening, emceed by What’s Trending’s own hostess with the mostess Shira Lazar, parody king Bart Baker, and all-around wunderkind Ethan Newberry, was truly a meeting of online greatness for a worthy cause. Nearly 100 YouTube and traditional media celebrities gathered to raise money for Covenant House, a nationwide charity network dedicated to raising money for homeless children. With a powerful end goal in mind, spirits couldn’t...

YouTube's 2013 Rewind pretty much covered all of the big videos of the year, but What's Trending has dug a little deeper. Shira Lazar's YouTube channel teamed up with Tubular Labs to award 15 videos, channels, and creators that were particularly popular over the past year. Tubular, which officially launched in august as an analytics platform aimed at YouTube creators, provided the data for the 'awards', which were spread across a number of different categories. There were no trophies involved; instead, What's Trending and Tubular chose to use the results to discuss the big trends of the past year. The usual suspects are all there: PewDiePie, The Harlem Shake, 'The Fox', Psy, etc. With popularity as the deciding metric, there were a winners who probably don't deserve their plaudits (seriously, there were so many better prank videos in 2013 than Roman Atwood's backfiring anniversary prank), but I'm glad to see a few...

One of the things that FX’s hit motorcycle drama Sons of Anarchy (arguably) does better than any series currently on the air is interact with their fans, personally and often.
We’ve seen this exemplified by Showrunner and creator, Kurt Sutter, with his Tuesday night Twitter Q&A’s via his personal account @sutterink, and from several other cast members over the course of the show’s continuing run.
As part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming sixth season, Sons of Anarchy stars Theo Rossi (‘Juice’) and Kim Coates (‘Tig’) sat down for a Google Plus Hangout chat with fans on Friday afternoon. For one hour, Rossi and Coates took questions from fans about the new season, the show’s history, and how the show has effected them on a personal level.
The session was hosted by on-air personality Shira Lazar, who also hosts the daily interactive show,...

Tony Valenzuela is an expert at scaring. The BlackBoxTV creator has used his YouTube channel for all manner of horror videos, including a slew of macabre pranks. BlackBox's most popular series is Evil Good Times, where ordinary people are subjected to sketchy cabs, killer photo booths, and creepy auditions for our general amusement. At Vidcon, BlackBox took its practical joking to the next level by introducing well-known YouTube creators to a psychotic fan. BlackBox teamed up with PrankVsPrank for eight separate renditions of the same stunt. YouTubers were asked up to a hotel room for an interview, where they were met by a crazy fan played by actress Julia Gallagher. As Tony V, Jesse, Jeana, and Stefan Glidden (who produces many of the Evil Good Times pranks) fed her lines, Gallagher attempted to solicit each of her 'guests' before a kidnapped guest or taser threat revealed her true intentions. Two...

On June 25, 2013 we held our Second Annual Hot 100 Live Event at the W Hotel in Hollywood to celebrate the men of TheBacklot Hot 100. But the evening wasn’t just about hot men. We partnered with the It Gets Better Project and attendees were asked if they’d like to take a moment and record an Igb video. A number of them obliged! Here’s Hot 100 man David Ramsey (Diggle from The CW’s Arrow) and several others, each affecting in their own way. David Ramsey
