Michael's great-grandfather James Bassett was the Assistant District Attorney of Texas.
Michael's mother was raised by her missionary parents Clarence and Katherine Bassett in Mexico. She grew up in the same area her mother Katherine did. Michael's grandmother Katherine was the daughter of missionaries as well and raised her family much like she was.
Clarence and Katherine were a significant presence among the Hispanic community their entire lives. Their names can be found engraved at the El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church in Austin.
Michael's paternal grandfather was a Korean War Vet. He survived the Battle at Chosin Reservoir, also named the Nightmare at Chosin Reservoir.
The Chosin Battle is considered as quite possibly the greatest battle in modern American Military history. Every survivor of the battle is known as the "Chosin Few".
Michael's father lived at the Myron Stratton Home in Colorado Springs, Co from 1967-73 before joining the Coast Guard upon graduating high school.
Michael moved to New York where he studied theater as liberally as possible. Eventually Michael was allowed to enter the private acting class of Allen Savage. Michael has studied with Allen for many years and considers him a mentor.
