Todd Matthews(II)
- Actor
- Music Department
Born in Vancouver, Canada, on September 5th, Todd grew up watching hours of TV and movies with a passion. One of three brothers, their favorite next-door neighbor was an older teenage movie buff who occasionally babysat them, allowing them to stay up a little later than usual and watch shows beyond their years.
His grade 8 drama class was an excellent opportunity to write and perform skits so outrageous that his teacher would routinely cut them off. The objective became to get kicked off stage as quickly as possible. The thrill of the politically incorrect and people's reactions became so intoxicating it was irresistible.
The son of a hardworking financial advisor father and a schoolteacher/musician mother, Todd was fortunate to have received the best of both worlds: real-world business knowledge and a heavy arts influence. Blessed to receive lessons in multiple artistic disciplines, including music, dance, and also team sports; however, Todd preferred skateboarding. Begrudgingly, and mostly to please his mother, Todd attended and won many local dance and singing competitions. He briefly attended Canada's prestigious National Ballet School in Toronto from the tender age of 10 until a knee injury was used as an excuse to quit dancing.
Following in the footsteps of his early heroes Bruce Willis and Clint Eastwood, Todd then set his sights on becoming a world-famous actor. After returning from Toronto, Todd convinced his parents to allow him to attend acting classes and ended up landing a principal role on The Knowledge Network's Kidzone (later Kerrisdale High) and several other small parts. This set in motion a series of events that later led to much international travel, a 7-year modeling and singing career in Tokyo, Japan, and his eventual return to acting after a 20-year break.
Now based in Vancouver, Canada, Todd works as a red seal Journeyman Electrician to survive and continues to study acting, voice acting, music, and various other pursuits. He is best known as the former lead singer of the Tokyo-based funk band SUPERFUNKTION and for his recent recurring role in Netflix's The Night Agent and several Hallmark Movies.
