Deidre (Dee) Kitcher started her career working for her father's ferry and boat building company and upon completing her business degree at Curtin University moved into taxation and business consulting.
Seeking a more interesting career in 2007, Dee started Filmscope Entertainment with her partner John V. Soto and produced three feature films Crush (2009), Needle (2010) and The Reckoning (2014). The films have received many official selections, nominations and awards, such as "The Reckoning's" selection in Cannes Cinéphiles Cinéma des Antipodes in 2015 and a finalist in Australia's richest film prize at CinefestOz in 2014. "Needle" won the Jury Prize at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival in 2011 and other awards at Screamfest and the British Independent Horror Film Festival.
In 2014 Dee sought to explore her creative side securing the rights to "Star of the Guardians" and writing a prequel script to this New York Times best selling book series written by Margaret Weis of "DragonLance" fame.
In 2015 Dee teamed with film director Pauline Chan and together they set up Opal Films International, a production company specializing in film co-productions between Australia and China. Their first production, "My Extraordinary Wedding", a Mandarin language film, is slated for production in Western Australia in the last quarter of 2015.
