Adapted from Kj Dell’Antonia’s book, The Chicken Sisters, which was a Reese’s Book Club pick in December 2020, Hallmark’s eight-part series of the same name aired its finale on Hallmark+, becoming one of the first complete shows that helped launch the streaming app for the network.

Set in the fictional town of Merinac, the series follows two dueling dynasties behind warring fried chicken restaurants — Mimi’s and Frannie’s — which dived the town in terms of loyalty. Kj Dell’Antonia’s best-selling book The Chicken Sisters, which was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick in December 2020, has become an eight-part series that premiered with the launch of Hallmark’s streamer Hallmark+.

Annie Mebane serves as executive producer on the series, which is set in Kansas just like in Dell’Antonia’s novel. Generous with y’alls and Southern hospitality, the show fits in perfectly to Hallmark’s slate.

Hallmark Media has announced when they will officially premiere the rebranded Hallmark Movies Plus to the spectacular new Hallmark+ streaming service.

Along with the streaming channel premiere date, the network shared premiere dates for The Chicken Sisters, Celebrations With Lacey Chabert, and Love On The Danube.

Additional premieres will drop through the month, with three new installments of The Jane Mysteries starring Jodie Sweetin (Fuller House) and Stephen Huszar (Navigating Christmas), and a Love on the Danube movie trilogy featuring Nazneen Contractor (Charmed), Wes Brown (Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up), Jessica Sipos (Betty’s Bad Luck in Love), Dan Jeannotte (Sense and Sensibility), Sarah Power (Good Witch), Brendan Penny (Chesapeake Shores) and Catherine Disher (Good Witch).

Hallmark Media announced the launch of the service in July. The new platform will cost $80 a year and offer the “very best of Hallmark with new exclusive content and membership benefits program,” said President and CEO Mike Perry at the time. That price includes e-cards and “surprising gifts.”

The show follows Chabert as she surprises deserving individuals who are making a positive impact in their communities with the celebration of a lifetime. Following the first episode, new episodes premiere every Thursday.

Other series planned for the service include holiday limited series Holidazed and Mistletoe Murders; the reality competition series Finding Mr. Christmas; a docu-style dating series hosted by Ashley Williams; a home renovation show hosted by Luke Macfarlane; and new movie trilogy called Groomsmen that’s inspired by the success of The Wedding Veil.

On Thursday, at the TCA Summer 2024, Hallmark made a huge change to their Hmn App. Now called Hallmark+, they are launching a streaming service that includes a lot of new original content. That includes reality shows “with heart.” In addition, some new movies, and limited series.

The upcoming series adaptation of “The Chicken Sisters” at Hallmark has added Ektor Rivera to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

Variety exclusively reported in May that Hallmark had picked up the series, which is based on the Kj Dell’Antonia novel of the same name. Rivera joins previously announced cast members Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick. The series is currently in production and is slated to air later this year. Rivera will play the character Sergio.

The official logline for the series states that it is set in the fictional town of Merinac, “where a generations-old rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants – Mimi’s and Frannie’s – has left the founders’ families fractured and the locals taking sides. Hallmark Channel has had much success with its original series, including When Calls the Heart, The Way Home, and more. Now, a brand new series is heading to the feel-good channel, based on the 2020 novel “The Chicken Sisters,” written by K.J.

Dell’Antonia. Starring Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson, and Wendie Malick. Meanwhile, Annie Mebane is the showrunner of the series and executive producer of the eight episodes.

It's from the same filmmaker who previously made the romcoms Then Came You and The Hating Game, and this one will probably be just like those two. Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff star in this hilarious tale of love and disaster. Two romantic burnouts meet at a wedding and almost hook up in the coatroom before putting the brakes on. They agree to exchange candid confessions about their pasts on the off chance that this might be the real thing. "Trading candid confessions of messy histories and heartbreak" - revisiting their own "past lives" on screen. The film's supporting cast includes John Gallagher Jr., Ward Horton, Genevieve Angelson, Alexander Hodge, Britne Oldford, Marceline Hugot, and Laura Kai Chen.

Decal Releasing has acquired “Which Brings Me to You,” a romantic comedy starring Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff. The movie is based on a novel by Steve Almond and Julianna Baggott. It is directed by Peter Hutchings, who previously helmed “The Hating Game.” Keith Bunin (“Onward”) wrote the script. The film will be released in theaters on Jan. 19.

The ensemble also includes Britne Oldford (“Free Guy”), Genevieve Angelson (“The Upside”), Alexander Hodge (“Insecure”) and John Gallagher, Jr. (“10 Cloverfield Lane”). After beginning its current season with the smirk seen ’round the globe, The Handmaid’s Tale ended with another telling expression.

The fifth season of Hulu’s dystopian series began by pitting June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) against Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski). At the end of the two-episode premiere, Serena had brought June’s Gilead-captive daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake), into view during a global broadcast of the funeral for her late husband, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) — and shot the camera a knowing smirk intended for June. Thousands of miles away in Canada, June received the message loud and clear.

But the world of The Handmaid’s Tale moves quickly and, by the pivotal seventh episode, June was faced with the impossible choice of helping Serena deliver her newborn baby or letting her die when the pair were stranded together in No Man’s Land,...

To stay in business over a long time, a series has to evolve. I understand that. But reinvention is tricky and in the search for more road, a series can also lose its way. The Handmaid’s Tale is not the taut, menacing thriller it once was.

In truth, I’m not sure it has any politics anymore. Men like Commander Lawrence, Gilead’s main architect, are allowed to take a hero’s turn, however slight, while women are reduced to hysterical rage. June, Serena, Mrs Wheeler, and Rita, who last week told June that she would return to Gilead if it meant she could see her son again. This week, its the Canadians who attend the grand opening of Gilead’s Toronto fertility centre. On The Handmaid’s Tale, women are increasingly led by their wombs.

The upcoming Hulu series’ latest promo gives viewers a tantalizing peek at the true-crime drama behind the ubiquitous 1980s all-male revue. Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) stars as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the entrepreneur who started Chippendales. At the start of the trailer, Banerjee is a gas-station attendant who dreams of “sheer opulence” and eventually turns down a promotion because, “That was my dream when I got here, but my goals have changed. The episode found the Gilead-sympathizing Canadian lashing out at her houseguest, Serena, when she mentioned that she might not want to remarry anytime in the near future. This was seen as anathema by the young ideologue, who’d previously put the pregnant Mrs. Waterford on a very high pedestal. Ok, that’s not exactly the gist of what happens at the end of this week’s very exciting Handmaid’s Tale. But we do have Serena killing someone who was about to kill June, then ordering June to hop in a car with her and drive. So, until next week’s episode proves me wrong, I’m going to live in a fantasy world in which Mrs. Waterford and the Artist Formerly Known as Offred pull some Thelma & Louise-type shenanigans.

They join previously announced cast members Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff. Peter Hutchings is directing the screenplay written by Keith Bunin, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Julianna Baggott and Steve Almond.

Which Brings Me To You tells the story of Jane (Hale), a freelance journalist, and Will (Wolff), a photographer, who are immediately drawn to each other at a mutual friend’s wedding. After the pair sneak off to hook up in the coat room, all signs point to an empty one-night stand. Instead, over the next 24 hours, they share stories of their most embarrassing sexual encounters, first loves, heartbreak and whirlwind romances, discovering each other through hilarious and sometimes tragic tales. Gallagher will play Wallace, a celebrated but tortured writer and love interest of Jane.

Introducing Fred and Serena’s Canadian fan club was one of The Handmaid’s Tale’s most grimly realistic and cruel surprises. The whole time we were trapped in Gilead with June, we’d been led to see Canada as the promised land. If only June could get over that border, she’d be able to leave the zealotry and false piety behind. Waiting for June in Canada was political, religious and sexual freedom – all the marks of a progressive society.

Then, the Waterfords walked out of their war crimes trial and were greeted by a bunch of candle-bearing dupes who’d chosen to martyr these rapists and make them their new celebrity It Couple. With them came a gut-punch realisation. What was waiting for June in Canada? More of the damn same.

After all, Gilead wasn’t only established via military might.
