Warrior has been cancelled and is coming to a third outlet. The first two seasons of the martial arts drama aired on Cinemax before moving to HBO Max for its third season. The show has now been cancelled and Netflix has picked up non-exclusive rights to air all three seasons.

Well, this one's a true shocker.

Max has made the shocking decision to cancel Warrior.

The decision comes months after Warrior Season 3 wrapped on the streaming service.

Max rarely releases viewership statistics like many other streaming services, so it's difficult to assess how well the show performed.

The only good news to come from the cancellation is that Netflix has picked up the rights to past episodes of the series.

Deadline first reported the news, revealing that the show is set to hit Netflix in February 2024.

If the show proves to be a success with the service's subscribers, it could lead to additional seasons being produced.

Netflix has picked up many canceled shows in the past, including Cobra Kai, Longmire, and Manifest, so the company could be seen as a decent destination to get fresh episodes.

If the series does secure a reprieve at Netflix, it would mark its third U.

Martial arts drama Warrior has been cancelled by Sky – but there’s an outside chance that Netflix may make more episodes.

Before he became an international kung fu superstar thanks to films like Way Of The Dragon, in which he famously went hand to hand with Chuck Norris in Rome’s Colosseum, and Enter The Dragon (which features an equally iconic climactic battle which takes place in a hall of mirrors), Bruce Lee was an integral part of what made seminal 1960s show The Green Hornet a huge success.

Although his film career soon took off, had things turned out differently Lee would have continued to make an impact on the small screen. He’s generally accepted as being involved in creating the concept for Kung Fu, the drama that eventually starred David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine, the pacifist who ended up in several fights every week.

The revival of Warrior at Max turned out to be short-lived: The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled the show after its first season as a Max original and third overall.

That said, the series — based on writings by Bruce Lee and set in 19th century San Francisco — will potentially get in front of more viewers beginning in February 2024 as all three seasons will stream on Netflix. Warrior will continue to be available on Max as well, similar to other non-exclusive streaming licensing deals Wbd has made with Netflix for HBO shows like Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers and Ballers.

Warrior won’t be returning for a fourth season on Max.

However, the existing three seasons of the martial arts crime drama are set to find additional audiences as Netflix has picked up the series’ library in a co-exclusive deal with Max in Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s markets.

Warrior is expected to debut on Netflix in February 2024. If it does well, Netflix could presumably order a new season of the drama based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee, sources tell Deadline exclusively.

This latest move sets Warrior in its third home in as many years. The series premiered in 2019 on Cinemax where it ran for two seasons before it was announced in early 2020 that the network was moving out of the Originals business. Max’s official trailer for Warrior season three doesn’t skimp on the action while also making sure to include updates on all of the key characters fans have missed seeing on the small screen since season two concluded in December 2020. Fans of the martial arts drama Warrior are getting their patience rewarded: Production on Season 3 has begun at last, as confirmed by HBO Max on Wednesday.

The update comes 15 months after Warrior was renewed for Season 3, and 19 months (!) since its sophomore finale aired. (The show previously aired its first two seasons on Cinemax, but relocated to HBO Max after Cinemax ceased production on original programming.)

“Warrior” Season 3 is enlisting new members. The action-packed HBO Max original series will see Mark Dacascos (best known for portraying the Chairman on “Iron Chef”) and Chelsea Muirhead join the cast.

Currently in production in South Africa, the 10-episode season will continue to explore the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown during the late 1800s. Based on the writings of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, the gritty crime drama stars Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan and Kieran Bew.

Dacascos will portray Kong Pak, the former leader of a newly absorbed, Long Zii-affiliated tong and Li Yong’s (Joe Taslim) old friend and mentor. Muirhead will play Yan Mi, the unassuming but clever daughter of a local print shop maker.

The former Cinemax series has been renewed by HBO Max for its third season, it was announced today by Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer, HBO and HBO Max.

Steve Chicorel’s Organic Media Group is launching a trio of English-language movies at this week’s Hong Kong FilMart.

Aaron Eckhart and Terrance Howard head the cast of “Afterward,” a drama about a man struggling with the death of his daughter, for which Omg is handling rights sales within Asia.

Directed by Dito Montiel, the fact-based film sees the father set out on a quest for truth and justice against corruption and small-town politics. Production begins next month in Louisiana. Lionsgate has the film for North America. Angel Oak Films will handle rights excluding North America and Asia.

Omg is also representing a pair of films, “Betrayed Within” and “Escape from Love,” developed for Lifetime Television in North America and available theatrically worldwide. Warrior Season 2 Episode 10

After the brutal depiction of San Francisco’s Riot of 1877 in the previous episode, the Warrior Season 2 finale feels more like an epilogue. There’s lots of ruminating over drinks, a few cliffhangers to tease Season 3, and one long awaited fight. Since Cinemax abandoned its original programming, this may be the final episode of Warrior unless some other network picks it up. Hopefully, Warrior finds new life somewhere else because Season 2 leaves us hanging and wanting more.

This episode begins with the morning after the Riot. As Chinatown residents recover bodies and tend to their wounded, Mai Ling (Dianne Doan) surveys the damage and discovers that a two-story mural of Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) has appeared. Clad in a wife-beater shirt with a nunchuck tucked in his armpit, it’s a nod to Bruce Lee’s look in The Way of the Dragon.

Warrior Season 2 Episode 9

Enter the Dragon was Bruce Lee’s most significant film and is regarded as one of the greatest martial arts films of all time. It was the first major Hollywood and Hong Kong co-production, and it also became one of the most profitable films of all time. Tragically, Lee didn’t live to see its success. He died a month prior to the premiere of Enter the Dragon. For Warrior to evoke Lee’s masterpiece, this episode better be good.

The significance of the title isn’t lost on Warrior’s head writer Jonathan Tropper. “My favorite movie to watch is probably Enter the Dragon,” claims Tropper, “just because I feel that is when production values caught up with what [Lee] was doing. Warrior Season 2 Episode 8 Review

This episode’s cold open has Hong (Chen Tang) telling a story to Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) and Young Jun (Jason Tobin) as they are eating. It’s a tale of a killer who uses violin strings as a weapon to explain why Hong uses his signature whip chain. Ah Sahm and Young Jun tease him by constantly interrupting his story and as the camera pulls back, we discover that they are casually eating over a pile of dead Fung Hai men. With their leader Zing (Dustin Nguyen) in jail, the Fung Hai were easy pickings for the Hop Wei.

Ordinarily, skipping to after the fight scene without showing any action would be disappointing for a martial arts-based show like Warrior, but it’s such an artfully crafted interaction between the Hop Wei threesome that the absence Kung Fu is forgivable this one time.

Warrior Season 2 Episode 7

This episode picks up right where the last one left off – Young Jun (Jason Tobin), Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), and Hong (Chen Tang) return from their successful mission to face Father Jun’s (Perry Young) wrath.

The Jun father-son relationship has been trying since the beginning, and it comes to a head when Father Jun blackballs his son from the Hop Wei with a ritual to ‘burn’ him out. Hop Wei members show their loyalty with branded forearms, so Father Jun burns out Young Jun’s brand with what appears to be the flat side of red-hot sword tip.

It’s a brutal ritual and bothersome to anyone who knows swords. No one ever does this. Swords are heat treated so getting one red hot like that would spoil the temper of the blade. In Warrior’s defense, all we get is...

Apart from Ah Toy’s (Olivia Cheng) trips to Nellie’s (Miranda Raison) Sonoma winery in the previous episode, Warrior seldom leaves San Francisco except for one notable exception – Season 1 Episode 5: “The Blood and the Sh*t.” That was an outlier tale where Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) and Young Jun (Jason Tobin) were transporting a coffin and got trapped by bandits in a desert saloon with several bystanders.

With undertones of The Seven Samurai, it was an homage to spaghetti westerns, complete with a classic ride into the sunset and even a “The End” credit. It was one of the best episodes of Season 1, almost a standalone story because it did nothing to advance the overarching tale, while this new episode is pivotal...

Warrior Season 2 Episode 4

The title of this episode comes from Sophie’s (Celine Buckens) date. Spencer (Russell Crous) comes from the upper class and he’s trying to court Sophie in an upper-class way, but she’s is having none of that. She brings him to the Banshee to slam some drinks, and coyly asks him about his athleticism. Spencer says he plays rugby and Sophie feigns being impressed by the roughness of the sport, egging him to say, “If you don’t see blood, you didn’t come to play.” Then she takes him to the back-alley bare-knuckle matches behind the Banshee, to show him some fresh blood. It’s one of only two scenes that get bloody in this episode, that that’s just not enough.

Warrior Season 2 Episode 3

“Not How We Do Business” sums up the latest episode of Warrior in two ways. First, it’s a line that Zing (Dustin Nguyen) lays on O’Hara (Kieran Biew) when he finally breaks away from being a debt collector for the Fung Hai. “Not how we do business” also works on a meta level, this episode only has one Kung Fu fight. That’s weak for a Bruce Lee inspired show. There are two other fight scenes, but they’re scrappy brawls the likes of which can be found in any action drama.

Bruce Lee fans want Kung Fu, and not just any Kung Fu. As part of the Little Dragon’s legacy, it must be great Kung Fu. The lone Kung Fu scene in this episode is good and serves to introduce a pivotal new character, but that’s not enough.

Disney’s live-action “Mulan” was supposed to be a huge win for under-represented groups in Hollywood. The $200 million-budgeted film is among the most expensive ever directed by a woman, and it features an all-Asian cast — a first for productions of such scale.

Despite well-intentioned ambitions, however, the film has exposed the difficulties of representation in a world of complex geopolitics. Disney primarily cast Asian rather than Asian American stars in lead roles to appeal to Chinese consumers, yet Chinese viewers rejected the movie as inauthentic and American. Then, politics ensnared the production as stars Liu Yifei, who plays Mulan, and Donnie Yen professed support for Hong Kong police during the brutal crackdown on protesters in 2019. Later, Disney issued “special thanks” in the credits to government bodies in China’s Xinjiang region that are directly involved in perpetrating major human rights abuses against the minority Uighur population.

Warrior, the martial-arts-teeming Cinemax crime series inspired by the story notes of Bruce Lee, is heralding its October return with an action-packed full trailer.

Created by executive producer Jonathan Tropper (co-creator of Cinemax’s Banshee), Warrior premiered on Cinemax on April 5, 2019, and kicked off a 10-episode inaugural season that wrapped its run on the following June 7. The series provided an effective combination of historically-based (albeit contemporarily-stylized) crime drama akin to Peaky Blinders with an action-packed, Bruce Lee-channeling martial arts component that resonated with viewers, resulting in a quick second season renewal for another 10-episode set.

#GoldOpen — the movement created by nonprofit collective Gold House to ensure the opening weekend success of multicultural films — has announced #GoldOpen Premier Access for the release of “Mulan” on Disney Plus on Sept. 4.

“Mulan” will be the first film to debut on the streaming platform with Premier Access, making it possible to watch the film before other Disney Plus subscribers — and as many times as viewers want to thereafter — for $29.99.

HBO announced that docuseries “The Vow” will be available on HBO and HBO Max starting Aug. 23. “The Vow” documents events within Nxivm, an organization rife with charges against it, including sex trafficking. Founder Keith Raniere is currently awaiting his sentence after being convicted on the aforementioned sex trafficking charges. The series will touch on members’ stories of abuse and perceived transformations during their time in the group, giving a voice to those behind the news coverage. The series is executive produced by Lisa Heller and Nancy Abraham, and the directors are Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim. Watch the trailer below.

Cinemax has quickly ordered a second season of its period piece action drama, Warrior, which is based on the writings of Bruce Lee.

It didn’t take long for the premium cable outlet to renew the action-packed crime series, which premiered on April 5. Indeed, Warrior, the creation of Jonathan Tropper, who co-created the channel’s 2013-2016 crime drama, Banshee, came to the table with proper familial blessing to brandish the name of Bruce Lee, whose handwritten story notes – provided by daughter Shannon – served as the show’s basis. The result has been a genre-blending series that combines classic chopsocky action with a dramatically poignant peak television flair.

Adrian Martinez, last seen opposite Amy Schumer in the comedy I Feel Pretty, has secured the role of Elliot, a dog-catcher, in Disney’s live-action/CG hybrid update of the animated classic Lady and the Tramp. Martinez joins Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, Yvette Nicole Brown as part of the live cast along with Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux as the voices for Lady and Tramp. Charlie Bean is directing the pic based on the 1955 original which followed an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady who meets a streetsmart, downtown stray mongrel called Tramp, and the two embark on many romantic adventures including that iconic spaghetti smooch dinner scene. The pic will be released on Disney’s forthcoming streaming service that is slated to launch in fall 2019. Sylvester Stallone successfully says the word “algorithm.” 50 Cent plays a GQ-styled security expert named “Hush.” There’s a scene where Dave Bautista solves a Rubik’s Cube and then physically threatens Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. At one point, Bautista walks by a marquee for Idina Menzel while wearing an outfit that can only be described as “Pitbull cos-play.” The film immediately cuts away the moment that Stallone begins to creep on one of his employees. That employee is played by Jaime King, an actress who continues to make everything she’s in at least a little bit better. Titus Welliver shows up as an ultra-serious bad guy who insists that his victims call him “The Zookeeper.”
