When Jamie makes a Christmas wish of having different parents and no annoying sister that comes true, he finds himself living the extravagant lifestyle he always dreamed of. He has every toy he has ever wanted and could never have got in his previous life… But at what cost?
Ok well, reviewing a Christmas film three months away from the actual event is probably one of the weirdest experiences ever. But, here we are. I have watched it, so now you get to read what I thought of it. As you should expect, All I Want For Xmas, like most Christmas films, spends most of the time reminding you it is Christmas in as many ways possible.

★★☆☆☆Earth to Echo (2014), director Dave Green's feature debut, admirably attempts to recreate the classic family adventure films of the eighties, but instead delivers an uneven mishap that comes up short on heart, soul and - in particular - originality. Forced to leave their neighbourhood because of a new highway construction project, best friends Tuck (Brian Bradley), Alex (Teo Halm) and Munch (Reese Hartwig) lie to their parents in order to spend their last night together. But when they start receiving unexplained message on their mobile phones, the trio set off into the desert to discover the source - a compact android called Echo. If any of the aforementioned sounds familiar, that's because it sadly is.

An inoffensive time-passer for youngsters, but adult genre fans who recall the 80s classics it draws on — E.T. and The Goonies — will be bored. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Well, for one, the title makes no sense. Earth to Echo might be the thing to call a sequel to this rather shameless mashup of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and The Goonies, but it refers to absolutely nothing here that we can see. Three tween pals in Nevada — Alex (Teo Halm), Tuck (Brian “Astro” Bradley), and Chunk Munch (Reese Hartwig) — set off on a mysterious treasure hunt directed by strange maps that appear on their cell phones and discover a tiny alien robot-creature they dub Echo (for how it echoes their voices) who needs their help to reassemble some sort of device so it can,...

Three young friends meet a robot alien in Earth To Echo. Here's Pete's review of a sweet yet uneven family film...
Some of the most memorable family films to come out of America in the 1980s told the stories of ordinary young children (often boys) flung into extraordinary scenarios. Movies such as E.T., The Goonies and Flight Of The Navigator captured our hearts and our imaginations, and have never truly let go of them.
This is particularly true for the makers of Earth To Echo, whose film is an unashamed homage to those beloved classics. It tells the story of three friends spending their final night together before leaving town. Having received mysterious signals on their mobile phones, and seeking one last adventure together, they get more than they bargained for when they find Echo, a small alien robot who needs their help if he is to find his way home.

Those polarising threats of a Goonies remake lose some of their power this week with the release of Earth to Echo. David Green’s bittersweet anthem for alienated youth is so profoundly in love with the 1983 classic that The Goonies could be credited as supporting cast. Yet the tender delivery of this adoration is such that the frequent nods to it are entirely forgivable. By acknowledging the singularly treacherous tightrope between childhood and adolescence with generosity, Earth to Echo forges a fresh path over this well trodden ground. This is jointly achieved by the guilelessness of the four young leads and the clever incorporation of social media as narrator.
Our Goonies are Alex, Tuck and Munch – The Mulberry Ballers Club. A trio of misfits in the Las Vegas ‘burbs, bonded by their exclusion from the in-crowd. Munch (Reese Hartwig) is Data 2.0 – techie, eccentric and unintentionally hilarious. Foster kid Alex (Teo Halm...

Title: Earth To Echo Director: Dave Green Starring: Teo Halm, Astro, Reese Hartwig, Ella Wahlestedt, Jason Gray-Stanford. If E.T. were to be narrated today, ‘Earth To Echo,’ would definitely not do it justice. Dave Green’s flick mishmashes classics of sci-fi with more recent youth movies, such as ‘Super 8’ and ‘Stand By Me,’ to explore the theme of friendship and xenophobia. The story that “echoes” Spielberg’s great extraterrestrial films, narrates the “close encounters of the third kind,” of a bunch of youngsters who stumble upon the tech-version of a cute complaisant alien. The juveniles receive a bizarre series of encrypted messages and decide to embark on an adventure with the [ Read More ]

Earth to Echo

USA, 2014
The new children’s film, Earth to Echo, wants to be a Millennial version of E.T., but it sacrifices emotion in favor of realism. The end result is a one-dimensional robot that will disappoint younger children, and a repetitive action story that will bore older kids. Its heart may be in the right place but there’s just not enough imagination or excitement to clear this movie for launch.
Earth to Echo’s premise is rooted in the two predominating traits of pre-adolescent boys; insecurity and recklessness. Insecurity plagues our three heroes, Tuck (Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley), Alex (Teo Halm) and Munch (Reese Hartwig), as a looming construction project threatens to uproot their entire town and separate them forever. When the three boys decipher a map-like signal embedded in their cellphones, it provides the perfect excuse for reckless rebellion...

Earth to Echo is a film filled with new faces. In the sci-fi adventure, Teo Halm (Alex), Astro Bradley (Tuck), Reese Hartwig (Munch), and Ella Wahlestedt (Emma) play four teenagers who find an alien. This is all four of the actors' first major roles on the big screen. We had the opportunity to chat about what the whole experience was like.
Q: This is one of your first big projects, and what is that like for you guys?
Reese: I've been an actor for five or six years now, and knowing that I'm going to be in a movie that's going to be in theaters—you can buy a ticket to it and go watch it at your movie theater—that's like the coolest thing for me as an actor to know that I achieved that.
Teo: That's every actor's dream, you know, to make it. It took me so long.

Reese: Since we already know him, I'd ask him where did he go?
Teo: What's your planet like?
Ella: I'd like to find out more about where he came from, about his planet.
Astro: Where's your mother?
Teo: You should be supervised right now.
Reese: What do you eat?

Three best friends - Tuck, Munch and Alex - discover an out of space visitor who needs their help in "Earth to Echo", the new family film released this week from Relativity Media. Young rapper and actor Brian "Astro" Bradley co-stars along with Teo Halm and Reese Hartwig in a story that looks a lot like a younger, gentler version of 2012's found-footage sci-fi film "Chronicle." When watching a release from a first-time director, it's always difficult to know exactly what to expect. Judging by the previews, you might have expected Earth to Echo to be a sophisticated, effects-driven grand adventure on the scale of The Goonies or Et: The Extra-Terrestrial. What you'll get is a charming mashup that pulls its strongest influences from classics like Et, The Goonies and The Iron Giant but never finds enough of its own identity to become more than an "echo" of those sources.
Director Dave Green and writer Henry Gayden, who both worked on the small screen on the series Zombie Roadkill, have assembled a talented cast of relative unknown child actors including Teo Halm (Alex), Brian Bradley (Tuck), Reese Hartwig (Munch), and Ella Wahlestedt (Emma). The most recognizable face is the adult villain Dr. Madsen played by the unlikely Jason Gray-Stanford, best known as police Lt. Randy Disher in Monk.

When a fresh-faced director takes the helm of his first full length film, there’s always a degree of anticipation, and maybe even hope, surrounding the project. Will he (or she) steer us into familiar waters, or spin the wheel with wild abandon, taking us boldly into new, exciting territory? Dave Green, whose debut feature Earth to Echo just hit screens, has unfortunately done the former, but that isn’t a reason not to keep an eye on him. While Earth to Echo is ultimately not much more than a decent family adventure flick, there are enough glimmers of creativity to make it stand out, and to indicate there’s hope for Green yet.

If I had a dollar for every time a critic dismissively claimed “we’ve seen this story before,” I’d be filthy rich living on my own private island – aren’t most Hollywood movies borrowing ideas from elsewhere? Keep your Super 8 comparisons to yourself, because I don’t remember J.J. Abrams’ childhood adventure featuring a fun-loving robot who leads three best friends on a vandalism-filled wild goose chase. Earth To Echo is an alien-themed version of Humpty Dumpty – and a sweet one at that – sporting similarities to classic children’s sci-fi material, only this time around the extraterrestrial star isn’t a Reese’s Pieces munching oddity. Children need films with strong, positive moral backbones, something our little friend Echo shows off by instilling the bonds of friendship while proving anything is possible.

Chicago – Oh those meddling kids, they can’t keep their noses out of anything, and for one lost space alien that’s a good thing. “Earth to Echo” is a wonderfully mastered combination of “found footage” composition and a Spielbergian-style encounter with an extra-terrestrial.

Earth To Echo is a tale of friendship, fun, and doing the right thing… and the whole family will love it!
Tuck, Munch and Alex are best friends that are forced to move out of their neighborhood due to a highway that will be built over their homes… or so they’ve been told. After weird signals render their phones useless, the three decide to hit the road on their bikes for one final adventure. As Tuck documents their adventure on various cameras, the three discover a new friend from another planet, and a conspiracy to cover up any evidence of the alien life form. Together, these friends are on a mission to send their new friend home, even if it means breaking a few rules along the way.

Earth to Echo is a slender kiddie flick about a quartet of preteens and their palm-sized alien pal that's at once bland, well-intentioned, and utterly terrifying about the mental development of modern children.
As in the most honest kids films, our heroes admit to being isolated, unhappy, and cowed by the adult world. Their Nevada suburb will be torn down tomorrow, scattering these best friends— braggadocios Tuck (the one-named Astro from X-Factor), cowardly Munch (Reese Hartwig) and unthreateningly handsome Alex (Teo Halm) — to different schools, and plucking the cute blonde (Ella Wahlestedt) they all crush on out of their universe before she even knew they shared one.

Four extraordinary individuals were cast in the main roles in Earth to Echo. We decided to ask them what it was like working with each other.
Q: What was it like being the only girl on set and working with these three boys?
Ella: Luckily I was paired with a good group. I also have a younger brother so I know about boys and their boyish antics. But it was a lot of testosterone, not going to lie.
Q: Now for the boys, can you describe Ella in one word?
Teo: Mean.
Ella: I'm a bully.
Q: How about a compliment?
Ella: Yeah, those don't happen very often.
Reese: Hot?
Teo: Zamn. Put that down.

Beep. Beep. Echo? Echo!
“Earth to Echo” is a film that could be described as a cross between “The Goonies” and “E.T.” It follows four young teens that discover encrypted cell phone messages leading to an alien in their neighborhood. The teens end up helping the alien after uncovering a government plot to capture the alien.
During press day, Latino-Review recruited a ten-year-old reporter, Alex Fuchs, to interview the cast of “Earth to Echo.” The cast members included Teo Halm, Ella Wahlestedt, Astro and Reese Hartwig.
The fun family movie will open this Wednesday, July 2nd.

In the new family film "Earth to Echo," actors Teo Halm, Ella Wahlestedt, Brian 'Astro' Bradley and Reese Hartwig had to play a serious round of 20 questions with adorable alien dubbed "Echo" who somehow plummeted to Earth -- to make sure, for one, Echo's not here to kill us. As the young actors came to Los Angeles to promote "Earth to Echo," we decided to shoot some rapid-fire questions their way too. The kids have a close bond in the film, which has them lamenting their last night together in a Nevada neighborhood that's being forcibly shut. It gave them time to get to know each other, goof off for the cameras in the film and the camera on their phone, ride bikes into the desert, listen to music... and it's apparent they like each other since its been over. Maybe they'd like to work together again.

Earth to Echo is a sci-fi action movie where four teenagers meet an alien they nickname Echo, who needs their help to get back home. One of the things that makes this film different is that it is shot in "found footage" style, where Tuck, an avid filmmaker, videotapes their entire adventure. Cassandra Hsiao, 15, and brother Jeremy, 10, sat down with Teo Halm (Alex), Astro Bradley (Tuck), Reese Hartwig (Munch), and Ella Wahlestedt (Emma) to talk about the found footage genre and a certain fight scene that occurs in the movie.

Earth to Echo is one of those charming looking sci-fi movies that I'm excited to see. I like that it reminds me of the films that I used to watch as a kid. We have a cool motion poster created by the gang at Geek Nation. They've made several of these motion posters that they call "Mosters," and they're really cool. You can check out the Moster below!

One of the hardest things about the way this generation of filmmakers has internalized the movies that inspired them is that watching their movies can sometimes feel like you're reading a laundry list of the things that they saw when they were younger, rather than watching something where all of those influences have crystallized into something new. "Earth To Echo" could accurately be described as a "found-footage" riff on "Explorers" and "E.T.", and that description would certainly impart something of the film to someone. But the thing that "Earth To Echo" most accurately reflects from the best of the '80s movies that continue to linger with viewers, even 30 years after many of them first hit theaters, is that sense of something genuine about the kids. When I look at "E.T.", the first thing that strikes me as remarkable is just how right Spielberg got all of the kids in the film.

A group of misfit friends band together to save their homes from being torn down (and their friendships from being torn apart) when a harmless adventure gives them more than they expected… stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Earth to Echo certainly starts off like a Goonies update for the iPhone and YouTube generation, but screenwriter Henry Gayden and director Dave Green infuse enough heart into the narrative to help the film stand on its own. They also get a lot of help from an adorable extraterrestrial. When a new freeway threatens Alex (Teo Halm), Tuck (Astro), and Munch’s (Reese Hartwig) neighborhood, and their cell phones start acting weird, the boys follow a map that has taken over one of their phones. It leads them out to the desert and raises questions about what’s really going on in their beloved neighborhood, but the most important thing they find is a new friend...

It’s been a while since Jj Abrams’ Super 8 harked back to Steven Spielberg’s kid-centric sci-fi spectacular E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, so this trailer for Dave Green’s debut feature Earth To Echo will be a welcome sight for many.
The loveable combination of wide-eyed kids and alien contact is given a tech-heavy modern twist here as mobile phones, tiny robots and snazzy special effects all feature heavily.

So it’s come to this. Earth to Echo has a trailer and it’s everything you have seen before. It’s a found footage movie for children that takes ingredients from better movies like E.T., Chronicle, Batteries Not Included, and even The Goonies. The alien itself looks like Eve from Wall-e right? I’m all for family adventure movies, but this isn’t bringing anything new to the table sadly.
Tuck, Munch and Alex are a trio of inseparable friends whose lives are about to change. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. But just two days before they must part ways, the boys begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they team up with another school friend, Emma, and set out to look for the source of their phone signals.

Here is a full trailer for the great looking found footage sci-fi thriller Earth to Echo. This movie oozes 1980s Stephen Spielberg and Amblin film aspirations. One of our readers also suggested that the movie looks like a mix of Super 8 and Chronicle. It was directed by Dave Green and stars Teo Halm, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Reese Hartwig, and Ella Linnea Wahlestedt. It looks like it has the potential to be very fun and entertaining. I love sci-fi adventure movies like this.
After a construction project begins digging in their neighborhood, best friends Tuck, Munch and Alex inexplicably begin to receive strange, encoded messages on their cell phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they go to their parents and the authorities. When everyone around them refuses to take the messages seriously, the three embark on a secret adventure to crack the code and follow it to its source.

Watch the new trailer for Relativity Media's "Earth to Echo" sci-fi film which opens in theaters from July 2nd, 2014. Dave Green directs the film produced by Andrew Panay and Ryan Kavanaugh, and executive-produced by Tucker Tooley, Ron Burkle, Jason Colbeck and Mark B. Johnson. What exactly is this? A poorly acted "Super 8 "meets "E.T."? I'll skip, thanks. Tuck, Munch and Alex are a closely bonded trio of inseparable friends, but their time together is coming to an end. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. About a month ago we were surprised with an incredibly fun-looking new sci-fi film called Earth to Echo. The found footage film was supposed to be released on April 24h, 2014, but according to Erc, Relativity has pushed that date to July. The studio must have a lot of confidence in the film to give it a summer release date.
The movie seems to have a kind of '80s Amblin magical feel to it, like The Goonies, E.T., Explorers, and even J.J. Abrams' Super 8. Here's the synopsis for the movie,

Here's a teaser trailer for a great-looking sci-fi adventure film that just popped out of nowhere! The movie is called Earth to Echo, and I have no idea how it flew under everyone's radar, but here it is, and it looks like a movie I'd really want to see! It's really rare to keep something like this hidden until the first trailer is released, so I applaud the creative team for being able to do it! The new trailer for "Earth to Echo" is enigmatic to say the least -- there's not much action and very little by way of character introduction, though perhaps that's by design.
"Earth to Echo" tells the story of a trio of young friends -- played by Teo Halm, Brian "Astro" Bradley, Reese Hartwig -- who suddenly start receiving cryptic text messages on their phones. Their pleas for help from adults are waved off, until they stumble upon a crash site and an alien, who enlists them on a mysterious mission.
Not much of that story is told is the teaser, though; it focuses primarily on the alien's crash, and the boys' discovery. It's mildly intriguing, but not exactly riveting; we've seen similar scenes before. A longer trailer will hopefully flesh out these characters more, and delve deeper into the text message mystery -- otherwise it seems this "Echo" might best be left unheard.

Exclusive: Relativity has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Echo, an adventure film that was developed and shot by Disney. The film didn’t fit the Mouse’s release strategy, and producer Andrew Panay brought it to Relativity president Tucker Tooley and production president Robbie Brenner. They’ve completed the deal to get the film out of Disney and have already set Echo for release on January 10, 2014. The film stars Astro (from X Factor) and a cast of up and comers that includes Teo Halm, Reese C. Hartwig and Ella Wahlestedt. The logline: After a construction project begins digging up their neighborhood, a group of friends begin receiving strange encoded messages on their cell phones. After being rebuffed by parents and authorities, they take it upon themselves to investigate the source of the messages. Dave Green made his directing debut on a Henry Gayden script. Panay produced and Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh...
