After hitting multi-year highs during election week, ABC’s “The View” returned to normalcy one week after former President Donald J. Trump was named President-elect Trump, according to the latest ratings figures released by the measurement company Nielsen.
Averaging 2.522 million viewers during the week of November 11-15, 2024, the daytime talk show was down from the 3.078 million viewers who tuned in during election week, which at the time, led the show to draw its largest overall audience in more than three and a half years. The show’s post-election day episode averaged 4.470 million viewers, attracting its largest overall audience in more than 10 years — since the late Barbara Walters‘ farewell episode.
“The View” gained +145,000 viewers compared to the same week last year among Total Viewers (2.522 million vs. 2.377 million), marking the 10th time in 11 weeks that the series has posted year-to-year growth among Total Viewers. Meanwhile, among Households, the show was also up year-to-year.

When The View erupted into a fight, Whoopi Goldberg had to lay down the law.
Part of the core concept of the ABC daytime talks series is that the panelists come from different viewpoints. The friction fuels conversations on current events.
However, even though these moments are good for ratings, they can sometimes be too much.

Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a bill specifically (and proudly) targeting a new, transgender member of congress this week, and the hosts of “The View” were thoroughly disgusted by it on Tuesday morning.
Mace’s bill aims to bar transgender women — namely, Sarah McBride — from bathrooms on Capitol Hill that match their gender identity, instead forcing McBride to use men’s facilities because she was assigned male at birth.
In discussing it on “The View” Tuesday morning, moderator Whoopi, marveled at what kind of welcome it was, to which host Sara Haines promptly noted that it simply isn’t one.
“It’s not a welcome, it’s flipping her the middle finger. Because she is the one person in the House that this will affect,” Haines said. “It’s for House and their staff. One person. One person. And this woman that sat at our table was one of the most decent,...

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin is speaking out against Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski’s decision to meet with President-elect Donald Trump ahead of his return to the White House. The “Morning Joe” co-anchors visited Trump and members of his team at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, Nov. 15. It was the first time in seven years that Scarborough and Brzezinski met Trump in person, with Brzezinski saying that “what we did agree on was to restart communications.”
Hostin reacted to the revelation by telling her “The View” co-hosts: “The bottom line is America needs a free press that is willing to speak truth to power, right now more than ever. And I think we have to be very clear-eyed when we think about the President-elect and cover the President elect. The View co-host Sunny Hostin has slammed MSNBC Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for visiting Mar-a-Lago over the weekend to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.
“The bottom line is America needs a free press that is willing to speak truth to power, right now more than ever. And I think we have to be very clear-eyed when we think about the President-elect and cover the President elect. And I don’t think you need to sit down for 90 minutes at Mar-a-Lago and kiss his ring to be able to speak truth and be able to cover a story,” Hostin said on the daytime talker on Monday as part of a clip posted by ABC to X, formerly Twitter.
Her comments followed Scarborough and Brzezinski starting their MSNBC program on Monday by disclosing their trip to Florida to meet with Trump, while also acknowledging that his decisive win influenced their decision.

On Monday’s episode of The View, Sunny Hostin expressed her strong take about the press “kissing the ring” of President-elect Donald Trump. The topic came up after Morning Joe‘s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski announced they had met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago Friday in an attempt to restart communication with him.

Alyssa Farah Griffin was met with a hard silence on Monday’s episode of “The View” after she expressed her opinion that good people should work for and interview Donald Trump in his second term.
The moment came during the first “Hot Topic” of the day, in which the women discussed their thoughts on “Morning Joe” hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough revealing that they met with Trump for 90 minutes, and plan to “restart communications” with him.
For Farah Griffin, as well as fellow co-host Sara Haines, the decision to meet was the right one — with the former noting she’d probably do the same.
“I would sit down with Donald Trump. I would interview Donald Trump. And I’ll go a step further, I hope good people work for him,” Farah Griffin said. “We need to stop demonizing people because they supported a man who just became president of the United States.

Update, with video: Opening the door to potentially constructive conversations or merely “kissing the ring” of the man who called new media the “enemy from within?”
This morning’s announcement by Morning Joe‘s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that they met with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday in an attempt to restart communications with the president-elect after seven years of bitter feuding and silence drew some heated and, not surprisingly, differing opinions on today’s The View.
Watch the segment below.
While cohosts Sara Haines and Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin praised the Morning Joe détente as a welcome first step, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro – two of the fiercer Trump critics on the ABC daytime talker – had some harsher words.

Sunny Hostin attacked Joy Behar in a recent episode of The View in a cringe-worthy way that seemed low even for the sharp-tongued host.
It seems Sunny has been sniping with everyone lately, from Sara Haines to Alyssa Farah Griffin, and that seems risky at a time when ABC still has not renewed her contract.
As Monsters and Critics have reported, even fans are worried about Sunny being in trouble with the network because of how mean things have gotten lately on The View.
Now that the election is over, things are starting to calm down on The View, and the ladies can begin to discuss more accessible topics than who to vote for in any office.

That said, just as Behar was trying to send the show into its next segment and then to break, Hostin chimed in to point out that she has noticed a certain coping mechanism Behar has been using.

Despite some (officially denied) rumors that The View might be looking to shake up its current cohost panel in the wake of Donald Trump‘s election, the stars of the show had a defiant message for the incoming president’s supporters on Friday’s (November 15) episode: Get used to us. After discussing the news that one company is now reportedly offering Trump critics an opportunity to spend up to the next four years of his term cruising around the world, the cohosts discussed what their plans are. While Sara Haines admitted she’s been kicking off Christmas celebrations early to deal with her sadness over the results, Ana Navarro had a more defiant tone, saying, “I’m going to tell Trumpers something. Even Griffin, who previously worked for Trump’s first administration, admitted to voting for his opponent Kamala Harris. Now that he’s won, however, there are some questions about whether a shakeup is inevitable. So will the show hire a pro-maga cohost in the wake of Trump’s reelection? However, she persisted, and the dessert was retrieved and delivered in time to share for her birthday extravaganza. Did the bakery deny her because of politics?
Whoopi Goldberg Had Several Setbacks
For months, The View moderator, Whoopi Goldberg has been passionate about Americans getting out to exercise their voice through voting. She was confident that her presidential candidate of choice, Vice President Kamala Harris, would sweep the nation and create change. However, she was extremely disappointed that the results didn’t go in Harris’ favor. Although it was difficult to stomach, she and her view counterparts have been diligently reviewing what happened and pressing forward to voice their political views. Since the election, they have been searching for the reasons people would re-elect former President Donald Trump.

Instead, Sara walked off because of a co-host and a risque joke made during Whoopi Goldberg’s birthday celebration.
After the recent presidential election, the ladies on The View celebrated Whoopi Goldberg’s birthday in a break from the divided sides of the political aisles.
Whoopi recently turned 69 and celebrated her birthday during a recent taping of The View, but things did not go as smoothly as planned.
Whoopi is still going strong at 69 with her work on The View, Broadway work in Annie, and the upcoming launch of an all-woman sports network.
Whoopi’s age has not toned down her lewd jokes either, and the comedian blurted out something rude during a segment for her birthday, causing Sara Haines to walk off the set.

When Sara Haines walks off The View, something very bad or very funny has happened. Maybe both.
Guest host Sara Haines was on The View to help Whoopi Goldberg celebrate her birthday.
Amidst all of the understandable doom and gloom, Whoopi held a “favorite things” segment.
However, a Freudian slip had the audience in stitches … and had Sara Haines walking off of the stage.
On The View, Whoopi Goldberg shows Sara Haines a round of cheese bearing the Oscar winner’s face. (Image Credit: ABC) Why did Sara Haines walk off ‘The View’ during Whoopi’s Favorite Things?
Wednesday, November 13 was Whoopi Goldberg’s birthday. Like many adults, she had to work on her big day. Unlike all but a few people, she is a co-host on The View and got a whole birthday segment.
To commemorate Whoopi turning 69 (nice!) years old, she showed the audience some of her favorite things.

Alyssa Farah Griffin may have voted for Kamala Harris in this election, but that doesn’t mean she was literally in mourning on Nov. 6, despite what those on the Internet might think.
On Thursday morning’s episode of “The View,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg kicked off one segment with what she worried was a “dumb” question. Her query? “Do you think people get annoyed with us when we are dressed too cheerily and talking about stuff like this?”
According to the ABC hosts, they’ve gotten feedback along those lines before, particularly when discussing very serious topics related to Donald Trump and the threats he has made for his second administration. Farah Griffin was first to chime in, having been on the receiving end of said criticism as recently as last week.
“The Internet was convinced I wore black after the election because I was in mourning. No!” she said bewilderedly.

Whoopi Goldberg is a comedian and has been a comic actor for much of her life. She has proven herself in dramas, but she is never one to hide her dry wit. However, one of her recent jokes on The View was enough to take Sara Haines by surprise. It even caused Sara to instantly walk off the set.
Here is what Whoopi said that caused Sara to exit stage left on The View.
Sara Haines Walks Off On Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg celebrated her birthday on The View, and the show brought back the Wind Machine of Chaos and her face on a giant wheel of cheese. This was Whoopi’s 69th birthday, and she stood in front of a giant wheel of cheese with her face on it to do so.

Whoopi Goldberg celebrated her 69th birthday on The View on Wednesday, November 13, but claimed her dessert almost didn’t arrive due to an unusual situation with the bakery. The Oscar-winner shared a selection of Charlotte Russe cakes with her fellow co-hosts Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, noting how it was one of her mom’s favorite desserts growing up. However, she said the bakery initially refused to take her order, and she only got it after someone else made the order on her behalf. “My birthday dessert today was one of my mom’s favorites from when she was a kid. She talked about these all the time… they’re called Charlotte Russe,” Goldberg explained. “It’s a sponge cake with whipped cream and a cherry on top. I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings. The place that made these refused to make them for me.

Whoopi Goldberg celebrated her 69th birthday on “The View” Wednesday, but the festivities were bittersweet. Goldberg told her co-hosts that the bakery who made the cupcakes for her big day didn’t accept her order at first. She added that she believed her political affiliation is at least part of the reason why, which prompted a dissenting reply from the bakery’s owner.
Goldberg shared that she requested a dessert that was one of her mother’s favorites – cupcakes made up of layers of sponge cake, Bavarian cream and fruit and topped with cherries. “My birthday dessert today was one of my mom’s favorites from when she was a kid, she talked about these all the time, they’re called Charlotte Russe. Whoopi Goldberg celebrates turning 69 today (November 13) and seemingly she has retirement on her mind. The actress and TV star even addressed quitting her job on The View during Tuesday’s episode of the hit gab-fest. Her comment came in a heated Hot Topics discussion on the long-running morning talk show, where the panel, including Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, spoke about the fallout of the 2024 presidential election. “I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living,” Goldberg said, referring to how she identifies with the struggles of the working class. “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I’m a working person, you know?” The Oscar winner went on to say, “My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there.

The election results weighed heavily last week on “The View” hosts — and perhaps its viewers as well, as they tuned in en masse to give the daytime talker its best week-long ratings in more than three and a half years. According to ABC analysis of Nielsen data, “The View” averaged 3.078 million viewers during the week of Nov. 4, making it the No. 1 show among daytime network talk and news shows.
Specifically on Wednesday, Nov. 6 — the day after the election — “The View” attracted 4.470 million viewers, which made it the show’s most-watched episode since Barbara Walters’ farewell episode on May 16, 2014.
As Variety reported on that episode, “The View” hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin spent that episode reacting to Donald Trump‘s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Concern and fear swept the desk, as Hostin noted that she was “profoundly disturbed” by the news.

The View hosts on Monday defended Broadway star Nicole Scherzinger after the singer-actress faced backlash for her comment on an Instagram post from Russell Brand.
Scherzinger’s Instagram account commented on a recent post from Brand, the controversial comedian and podcaster who faces numerous allegations of sexual assault, just days after last Tuesday’s presidential election. Brand’s post featured a photo of the comedian, who recently converted to Christianity, holding a red hat that said “Make Jesus First Again” with the hat resembling Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” caps.
In response to the photo, Scherzinger appeared to have replied in a since-deleted comment, “Where do I get this hat!!!?” The Sunset Boulevard star apologized for the comment on social media Friday, when she wrote in a lengthy statement that “many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for.

Whoopi Goldberg and her fellow hosts on “The View” all passionately defended Nicole Scherzinger during the Nov. 11 episode of the ABC daytime talk show. Scherzinger, who’s earning rave reviews and Tony buzz for her performance as Norma Desmond in “Sunset Blvd.” on Broadway, ignited a firestorm of controversy on Nov. 9 when she commented on Russel Brand’s Instagram post, which featured Brand posing with a “Make Jesus First Again” red hat.
“Where do I get this hat?” Scherzinger wrote in a now-deleted comment, alongside a prayer hands emoji and a red heart emoji.
The backlash against Scherzinger was swift on social media, as Brand’s original post was viewed as a pro-Donald Trump message following the U.S. election and thus Scherzinger must be pro-Trump by default. The singer, however, never endorsed a candidate or publicly stated how she voted. As Whoopi Goldberg reminded viewers, the singer has...

Update, with video: The View today came to the defense of Broadway’s Nicole Scherzinger against the “mob mentality” of social media, even saying the Sunset Blvd. star should not have apologized for liking Russell Brand’s Maga-style “Make Jesus First Again” ball cap.
After View moderator Whoopi Goldberg reminded viewers during today’s Hot Topics segment that Scherzinger was raised in conservative Kentucky, is a devout Catholic and has supported the LGBTQ community, she asked her co-panelists for their thoughts on the online backlash.
All defended Scherzinger, whose performance as Norma Desmond has drawn rave reviews and Tony Award speculation. Her comment on Brand’s X page was criticized as, at best, tone deaf given that her recent stage success comes within a generally liberal Broadway community that views Maga as detrimental to the rights of gay people and women.

For Ana Navarro, this was the Fafo election, and now some voters are entering the “find out” phase. On Monday’s (November 11) edition of The View, the cohost came in with a decidedly defiant reaction to the results of the 2024 presidential race, especially when it came to her fellow Latino voters. The first “Hot Topic” of the day for Navarro and fellow panelists Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, and Sunny Hostin (note: Alyssa Farah Griffin was out sick) was the appointment of Tom Homan as Donald Trump‘s incoming “border czar,” a man who has expressed staunch views on mass deportations. After reviewing footage of Homan saying in an interview that the way to avoid family separations in mass deportations is, “families can be deported together,” Navarro, who immigrated from Nicaragua as a child and is now a naturalized citizen, had a lot to say. “It’s chilling what he just said.

Though the hosts of “The View” were surprisingly chipper immediately following the result of the election this week, things have since gotten a bit heated as the women debate what went wrong for Democrats. On Friday, the ABC hosts butted heads over the idea that Dems were too “condescending” to the working class.
To kick off the show, the women debated Sen. Bernie Sanders’ response to the results, which was a scathing indictment of the party that said “it should come as no surprise” that the working class “abandoned” them in this election. For host Alyssa Farah Griffin, “He’s absolutely right, but his solutions are wrong.”
“I was someone who, I’m recognizing, reflecting on this election, I had the privilege of saying I’m voting on democracy because I’m a high income earner,” she said. “If your check engine light is on and you’ve got bills piling up on the table,...

“I was someone who, I’m recognizing, reflecting on this election, I had the privilege of saying I’m voting on democracy because I’m a high income earner,” she said. “If your check engine light is on and you’ve got bills piling up on the table,...

The hosts of “The View” have been longtime critics of Donald Trump, but on Wednesday morning, they were still “optimistic” about the country even under his second term — albeit “profoundly disturbed.”
To kick off the first post-election episode, the ABC hosts came dancing onto stage, seemingly in good spirits. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg even joked with the table and audience, asking if anyone did anything interesting yesterday.
Of course, she quickly dropped the joke and went straight to her co-hosts for their reactions on a convicted felon getting re-elected. First up was Joy Behar, who was arguably the most stressed of the group before the election, yet unexpectedly hopeful.
.@JoyVBehar: "My takeaway is that the system worked. We live in a democracy. People spoke. This is what people wanted. I vehemently disagree with the decision Americans made, but I feel very, very hopeful that we have a democratic system in this country.

Update, with full video added: The View cohosts – all of whom, including Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin, supported Kamala Harris for president – reacted today with varying degrees of anger, disappointment and optimism to the victory of Donald Trump.
“So, what happened last night?,” joked moderator Whoopi Goldberg to kick off the Hot Topics discussion. “Anybody do anything interesting?”
Watch the discussion above. Here’s a rundown of edited and condensed comments from the cohosts:
Joy Behar: My takeaway is that the system works, we live in a democracy, people spoke…I vehemently disagree with the decision that Americans made, but I feel very, very hopeful that we have a Democratic system in this country. We should value it, we should love it, we should protest if the situation arises that we need to protest which I’m sure it will. I’ve been through this before with Nixon. It’s...

“So what happened last night?” Whoopi asked. “He’s the president. I’m still not going to say his name. That’s not going to change.”
Sunny said: “I’m profoundly disturbed. If you look at The New York Times this morning, the headline was ‘America Makes a Perilous Choice.’ I think in 2016 we didn’t know what we would get from a Trump administration. We know now. We know now he will have almost unfettered power. I worry not about myself actually. I don’t worry about my station in life. I worry about the working class.
