Like Qasim Basir’s last feature, “A Boy. A Girl. A Dream,” his new “To Live & Die and Live” is a questing mood piece whose characters roam a city’s highlife in a fruitless search for inner peace. Here the setting is Detroit, but the protagonist a successful filmmaker taking a forced yet needed sabbatical from the pressures of that prior film’s Los Angeles. The issues he’s dragged with him are hardly alleviated by this return to home turf, however.

As before, the writer-director’s elliptical narrative approach leaves a lot of unanswered questions. But the frustration they generate is again outweighed by the insight afforded into upwardly mobile (and in this case Muslim) African American communities, as well as the melancholy poetical drift of his cinematic style.

'The United States vs Billie Holiday' trailer has arrived and it looks promising.

Hulu dropped the first exclusive trailer for the upcoming biographical drama 'The United States vs Billie Holiday' featuring R&b singer Andra Day in the titular role.

Directed by Lee Daniels, the film is based on Johan Hari’s 2015 novel 'Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs' and follows the iconic singer's early life in her career.

Written by Suzan-Lori Parks, the upcoming biopic also features Garrett Hedlund, Natasha Lyonne, Evan Ross, Trevante Rhodes, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dana Gourrier, Erik Laray Harvey, Kwasi Songui, and Melvin Gregg in key roles.

Today is a good day for fans of crime dramas as Netflix just renewed Narcos Mexico for a third season. The series, which was conceived as both a spiritual successor and a sequel to the original Narcos, sports an admirable 88% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating audiences will be happy to see it return to the small screen for yet another round of drug trading.

The show first aired on Netflix back in 2018. Starring Michael Peña alongside Diego Luna, Tenoch Huerta Mejía and Alyssa Diaz, it centers on the illegal drug trade in Mexico during the origin of the modern day War on Drugs. Tension arises from economic and personal conflict between various cartels, as well as the government forces trying to apprehend them.

Ah Summer… Ice cream, long nights and indie films! An old friend has risen from the grave with a new film. ‘The Domestics’ from the freshly returned Orion Pictures with Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin starts our summer fun.

The Domestics: Based on a screenplay by Nelson, The Domestics was produced by Gianni Nunnari and Shannon Gaulding and executive produced by Kurt Johnstad and Adam Krentzman.

In a terrifying post-apocalyptic world inhabited by murderous gangs divided into deadly factions, Nina (Bosworth) and Mark (Hoechlin) race desperately across the lawless countryside in search of safety. As one depraved group narrows their search for the couple, they must work together as they are pushed to the breaking point in order to survive.

At the risk of her friend’s safety, a young woman travels into a National forest, in search for her missing sister. Once in the wilderness, they discover they have entered a multi-dimensional world full of monsters.

MGM is re-launching Orion Classics and has named Mike P. Nelson’s thriller The Domestics starring Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin (Everybody Wants Some!!) as its first release as the studio says it will focus on multiplatform and specialized releases and acquisitions. The label that is rising from the ashes will release eight to 10 films per year across genres, with The Domestics hitting theaters June 28 and then going to VOD and digital the following day.

The move follows last year’s resurrection of the Orion label and naming of John Hegeman as its president. Orion Classics will be run day to day by Sam Wollman, MGM’s Svp Acquisitions; he will work in conjunction with Hegeman and MGM President of Worldwide Television and Acquisitions Chris Ottinger. Orion Pictures’ first film, Every Day, was released into theaters in February and grossed $6.1M.

MGM made the announcement Monday, saying the MGM label will focus on multiplatform and specialized releases as well as acquisitions utilizing “emerging and innovative” alternative distribution strategies worldwide. The label will release between eight and 10 films per year across genres.

Mike P. Nelson directed “The Domestics,” starring Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin. The story, written by Nelson, is set in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by murderous gangs divided into deadly factions as Bosworth and Hoechlin’s characters race desperately across the lawless countryside in search of safety. Academy Award Winner Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball, X-Men: Days of Future Past) stars in this thrilling chase film as a single mother who, after her young son disappears, she takes it upon herself to chase down those who have taken him by any means necessary. There are many, many things to like about Quentin Tarantino’s new film The Hateful Eight. A great deal of them are being talked about all throughout the industry by various writers, but one aspect of Tarantino’s eighth outing is being woefully neglected. What is that? Well, the supporting turn by Bruce Dern, of course. Is it the flashiest in the movie? No, but that’s not the point. Dern is one of the great character actors of the last half century, and seeing him really get to dive into a role like this and work with Tarantino is something special. Quentin Tarantino returns with his latest feature, The Hateful Eight, another retro re-hash of period following the revenge fantasies of WWII set Inglourious Basterds (2009) and the pre-Civil War American Deep South in Django Unchained (2012). Returning to the inspirational pool of the Spaghetti Western for his latest concoction, Tarantino showcases another tale of violence, greed, and betrayal amongst marauders and peripheral bounty hunters in post-Civil War Wyoming. Utilizing his particular brand of characterization, a fine borderline of catchy kitsch and inspired homage, Tarantino resurrects 70mm Panavision, a film stock twice as wide as 35mm stock, and the title represents the widest theatrical release the format has seen in over twenty years. In the aftermath of the Bp oil spill, an idealistic but imperfect New Orleans politician (Nicolas Cage) finds his plans of restoration unravelling as his own life becomes contaminated with corruption, scandal and deceit.

I am going to leap right into the meat of it here and say that The Runner is not a happy film. If you’re one of those people who like a happy ending and for everything to be wrapped up at least a little bit by the end, you definitely shouldn’t go for this film. It has quite a dark and depressing finish.

The 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards will be launching the awards campaigns of contenders both big and small, but few are bigger than Quentin Tarantino’s new movie The Hateful Eight. The film and its cast will be honored with the Hollywood Ensemble Award, which bodes well for its chances with Oscar. The ensemble consists of a group that includes Zoë Bell, Demian Bichir, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Dana Gourrier, Lee Horsley, Samuel L. Jackson, Keith Jefferson, Gene Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Belinda Owino, James Parks, Tim Roth, Kurt Russell, Craig Stark, and Channing Tatum, with some to compete for Academy Awards this year as well. Filming has gotten under way in Telluride, Colorado on Quentin Tarantino's eighth feature film, the revenge Western "The Hateful Eight".

The revenge Western has also added several new supporting cast members including Zoe Bell ("Death Proof"), Gene Jones ("The Sacrament") and numerous "Django Unchained" cast members including James Parks, Dana Michelle Gourrier, Keith Jefferson, Lee Horsley, Craig Stark and Belinda Owino.

Quentin Tarantino has been rolling on his upcoming western The Hateful Eight for a little while in Colorado already, but today The Wrap unveiled some new members of the supporting cast. Zoe Bell, the stuntwoman who starred in Tarantino's Death Proof, is the most notable addition, but Gene Jones (No Country For Old Men), James Parks (Kill Bill), and Django Unchained actors Dana Gourrier, Keith Jefferson, Lee Horsley, Craig Stark, and Belinda Owino have also joined the cast.

It appears that Quentin Tarantino.s long-gestating project, The Hateful Eight, is finally starting to achieve some movement. It is being reported that the film has added an entire slew of new cast members to what was already an impressive dais, including repertory Tarantino cast member and stuntwoman Zoe Bell. Additionally, the film has finally begun to shoot on location in Telluride, Colorado. According to The Wrap, the film can now add the names of James Parks (an alum from the Kill Bill series), Dana Gourrier, Keith Jefferson, Lee Horsley, Craig Stark and Belinda Owino (who all appeared in Django Unchained), Gene Jones of (No Country for Old Men, The Odd Life of Timothy Green), and of course, the aforementioned Zoe Bell, who, besides appearing in a number of Tarantino films and working as a stuntwoman, would memorably play herself in Tarantino.s 2007 Grindhouse effort, Deathproof as a pipe-wielding badass.

It has been a long and twisty road to principal photography on The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino’s latest foray into the western genre. First Gawker leaked the script, resulting in the filing of a lawsuit and Tarantino’s proclamation that he did not intend to make the film. What followed was a single public reading of the script, the lawsuit being dropped, and, finally, Tarantino’s announcement that he would make the movie after all. When Quentin Tarantino’s script for The Hateful Eight was leaked, the filmmaker was understandably furious (it had only been distributed to six people). He later stated that it would no longer be his next project and that while he might still make it in the future, he would likely just end up publishing it as a book.

It was revealed months ago that Tarantino was once again working on a movie version of The Hateful Eight, and he would confirm that news at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con.

The script was very well received following a live reading in Los Angeles, and the cast which took part in that are all expected to return for The Hateful Eight movie as well. That includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, James Parks, Denis Ménochet, Dana Gourrier, Zoe Bell and James Remar.

Would any Comic-Con celebrating the best, brightest and downright coolest in cinema be complete without that most audacious of filmmakers himself, Quentin Tarantino? I think not. So, it was truly thrilling to hear about the Pulp Fiction director taking the stage this year at the panel for Dynamite Comics’ upcoming Django Unchained-Zorro comic.

However, that intriguing venture was by no means the most exciting part of Tarantino’s appearance this year. After a fan pressed him about his troubled Western The Hateful Eight, the filmmaker confirmed that the film would be moving forward and rolling cameras in 2015. In response, the room erupted in deafening cheers.

Director Quentin Tarantino has calmed down a little since his Hateful Eight script leaked online earlier this year. At one point the filmmaker said that he was going to just shelve the project, but since then he did a live stage reading, and now the filmmaker is getting ready to put it into production. The news came in an interview with My Fox Philly, when actor Kurt Russell said:

"There's a Tarantino project called The Hateful Eight that looks like it may go somewhere around the beginning of the year."

Regardless of all the drama that has surrounded this script, it's awesome to hear that there are once again plans to bring this story to life. I'm a huge fan of westerns, and this sounds like it will be awesome.
