"Some people get second chances. I'm going to make sure you never get yours." Assemble Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller titled Snag, made by British filmmaker Ben Milliken. It's set to open in a few US theaters at the end of April with a VOD release following in May if anyone is interested in watching. A lone wolf's quiet existence gets shattered when he learns that the woman he once loved and thought was dead is actually still alive and being held captive by ruthless gangsters. Now, to take on this dangerous criminal organization, he must seek out allies and storm into a world of violence to rescue the love of his life. The film stars Ben Milliken (who also directed), Jaime Camil, Jonny Beauchamp, David Zayas, Sofia Castro, Michelle Ortiz, and Ana Ortiz. This looks like another macho man must rescue woman film, but...

German director Roland Emmerich made "The Noah's Ark Principle" in Germany in 1984 -- a student film with a budget of over a million Deutschmarks -- and never looked back. He quickly helmed two English-language family films, followed by a move into the worlds of action and science fiction in the 1990s. The peak Emmerich movie is probably still "Independence Day," although his other action and disaster movies -- "The Day After Tomorrow," "2012," "White House Down," and "Moonfall" -- are the connoisseur's choices.
Emmerich (both wisely and unwisely) stretches himself into other genres -- such as the war movies "The Patriot" and "Midway," and the historical dramas "Anonymous" and "Stonewall." It's good to see him pushing himself, taking risks, and experimenting, even if the end results are mixed, to say the least. But he excels at big-budget action movies, and if he's given actors blessed with the necessary star quality to build his beautiful disasters around,...

A young man has to deal with the loss of his abusive father while stuck in his dead end job and trying to remain sober. He has help from his AA sponsor and his best friend but when a new guy enters his life full of promises and seemingly good advice, he can’t help in becoming a little infatuated. And this infatuation leads to some unwanted situations in this psychological thriller.
The Way Out comes from Terror Films, a company I generally enjoy but my general expectations are that their movies will be low-budget, sometimes amateur, horror movies that I will mostly have fun with. So The Way Out stuck out like a sore thumb immediately by just looking good and having clearly experienced actors in the lead roles. The performances are strong from...

It's been a few days since The CW made the unfortunate decision to cancel Katy Keene after a single season.
Lucy Hale, who played the titular character on the Riverdale spinoff, has opened up about it.
The actress shared a video via social media, noting that the decision to cancel the series "sucks."
Hale said that she had been "a blubbering mess" since the cancellation news broke.
"I've kind of struggled all day with what I wanted to say about this, or if I shouldn't say anything. Nothing felt right," she said in a video on Instagram.
"I didn't want to just post a picture or a caption because nothing would do justice to how I feel about Katy Keene, or how I feel about the people involved with it."

Katy Keene's New York fairytale is coming to an abrupt conclusion.
The CW has canceled the Riverdale spinoff after just one season.
The drama's freshman finale aired May 14, and while it seemed the series would be a hit because of its connection to Riverdale, it was not meant to be.
Katy Keene Season 1 averaged 480,000 total viewers and a 0.1 rating among adults.
Out of 16 dramas the network aired this season, it ranked 14th.
It bested In the Dark and Dynasty -- both of which have been picked up for the 2020-21 TV season.
Alarm bells started ringing when The CW opted to hold off on a renewal decision, with network president Mark Pedowitz wanting to wait to assess the digital figures for the series.
The CW has always looked at the bigger picture when it comes to other avenues people use to watch their shows.

The CW is not moving forward with a second season of the “Riverdale” spinoff “Katy Keene,” TheWrap has confirmed.
“Katy Keene” was the last remaining show on The CW’s slate not to be `picked up for another season after the network did a bulk renewal back in January of all its other scripted series that weren’t headed for a pre-planned ending. Two other freshman dramas, “Batwoman” and “Nancy Drew,” were among the early renewals.
At the time, the network ordered additional scripts for “Katy Keene,” suggesting some confidence in the series, which had not yet made its premiere on the network. However, “Katy Keene” was not able to match the success of “Riverdale” during its run, hovering around a 0.2 rating in the demo with a week of delayed viewing factored in, according to Nielsen.

“Katy Keene” will not be coming back for more adventures in the world of New York fashion, at least not at the CW.
The network has canceled the “Riverdale” spinoff after a single season. According to sources, the show’s producer Warner Bros. intends to explore possibilities to keep it going on another platform.
“Katy Keene,” also based on the Archie Comics character, follows aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), who meets Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), fresh off the bus to chase her musical dreams. Katy Keene and The CW are no longer a match. The Riverdale spinoff has been canceled after one season, TVLine has learned. The drama’s first season finale, which now serves as its de facto series finale, aired on Thursday, May 14.

The CW has opted not to proceed with a second season of Katy Keene. Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind The Riverdale spinoff headlined by Lucy Hale, is planning to explore options for keeping the show going.
The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz in May revealed that the options on the cast, which originally expired June 30, had been extended as the network was mulling their renewal decision. I hear the extension is until July 31, giving Wbtv a window to pursue a new home. Given Katy Keene‘s streaming deal at Wbtv corporate sibling HBO Max, which is currently carrying Season 1, the platform is considered the most realistic option for keeping Katy Keene alive.
Katy Keene was the only current CW series not to get a renewal for next season in January. In a vote of confidence, the network at the time gave the midseason show a 13-script order ahead of its premiere.

Spoiler alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Season 1 finale of “Katy Keene,” titled “Chapter Thirteen: Come Together.”
The Season 1 finale of “Katy Keene” left fans with a major cliffhanger: whether or not Leo Lacy (Cary Elwes in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo), is Katy’s (Lucy Hale) father, a possibility the budding fashion designer didn’t hesitate to blurt out at episode’s end.
“I love that Katy just jumps in immediately, like, ‘Yeah, yo, you’re my dad,’” Hale said on the Variety After-Show on Instagram Live.
Hale added that Elwes’s character might one of a few “Katy daddy” contenders, a scenario she said she wouldn’t mind seeing play out “Mamma Mia”-style in a future episode, given the show’s musical flair.
“One. Hundred. Percent,” said Hale, to that prospect.

The CW is set to make a decision on the future on Katy Keene “in a few weeks” and the network hopes that more streaming numbers will make up for “soft” linear ratings.
The network will take into account streaming figures for the show, which will have all episodes stacked on The CW’s digital platform and will launch on HBO Max at the end of the month, before making a renewal decision.
The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz added that it had extended the options on the cast ahead of a decision.

Lucy Hale has gone from the murder mystery thrills of Pretty Little Liars to the fashionable fantasy frills of Katy Keene — but the freshman Riverdale spinoff was based on the Katy Keene comic that was first published in the ’40s and focused on multihyphenate model-actress-singer who was dubbed as “America’s Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions”. Hale joined us at Deadline’s New Hollywood Podcast to talk to us about how CW’s Katy Keene is the same and how it differs from the original.
Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi, Katy Keene follows the life of the titular fashion designer with a heart of gold and her Archie-verse friends in New York City. Bridging Katy Keene and Riverdale is singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) who is joined by new characters Jorge Lopez and his drag persona Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp) and “It Girl” Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) as they chase their respective dreams.

What is Kevin Keller circa 2025 up to?
Katy Keene Season 1 Episode 10 will lift the lid on that as Casey Cott's character makes his way to the Riverdale spinoff this week.
The CW has dropped the latest trailer, which shows Kevin meeting Katy for the first time, but there's no telling what brings him to New York City.
If you watch Katy Keene online, you know Josie has been struggling to revive the Pussycats, and could use some assistance from Kevin.
The official logline for the episode teases that Josie has a falling out with the Pussycats, and it's not a surprise.
Josie hated the picks from Mr. Cabot, so she went off on her own to revive the band, even admitting that she didn't care about the Ep deal she had.
If Kevin can help her realize that she doesn't need to be bickering with members of the band...

This Katy Keene review contains spoilers.
Katy Keene Episode 7
“It’s the perfect showcase for my drag and Broadway careers.”
In my previous reviews of Katy Keene, I’ve lamented the show’s lack of clearly defined identity. At times it is a breezy New York City fairytale that is as edgy as a circle. Often it is a lightweight romantic comedy. And sometimes there’s musical numbers randomly thrown in. It’s a televisual hodgepodge to be sure, one that is the exact diversion that is needed Right Now. That said, it’s been a bit of a, um, drag that all of these factors of the series have never congealed properly.
This latest episode combined all of these issues into a cohesive whole, resulting in an hour of television that had moments of tangible grace among all of the music. Written by Archieverse maestro Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa, it presents...

The CW's Katy Keene is filled with talented musicians, including Lucy Hale. Though the actress plays an aspiring fashion designer on the Riverdale spinoff, she does participate in a few group numbers. Most recently, her title character sang a cover of Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty" alongside Ashleigh Murray (Josie), Julia Chan (Pepper), and Jonny Beauchamp (Jorge). And before you start wondering, yes, that is really Hale singing.
Actually, Hale got her start as a singer long before she started acting. In 2003, a then-14-year-old Hale competed on American Idol's spinoff, American Idol Juniors - a singing competition series that sought the best five kids to form a singing group) - and ended up getting a record deal in the process. Though the group's album "flopped," as Hale put it, she did release a solo studio album titled Road Between in 2014. She also showed off her voice in the Cinderella Story spinoff movie,...

Though the group's album "flopped," as Hale put it, she did release a solo studio album titled Road Between in 2014. She also showed off her voice in the Cinderella Story spinoff movie,...

The CW's adaptation of Katy Keene might be in the same universe as Riverdale, but don't expect to see a lot of murder, cults, corpses, and teens with skeevy dark sides. Instead, you can expect singing, fashion designing, and a group of young adults chasing their dreams in New York City. The series, which premieres on Feb. 6, heavily focuses on four ambitious professionals: Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), who wants to be the next great fashion designer; Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) who's determined to make it big as a singer; Jorge, aka Ginger Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp), who's ready to take the Broadway world by storm; and Pepper Smith (Julia Chan), who wants to open her own version of Andy Warhol's Factory. Another character viewers will likely come to love is Katy's boyfriend, K.O. Kelly - a bouncer, an aspiring boxer, and a truly adorable significant other.

The first two series in television’s Archie Comics’ inspired “Archieverse” — “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” — are dark and mature in tone. They may center on high school-aged, small town kids and their parental figures, but thematically they explore everything from sex and drugs to cults, murder and the literal occult. The upcoming third series in that universe, “Katy Keene,” is the opposite.
Set five years after “Riverdale,” “Katy Keene” follows 20-something adult characters as they try to juggle love, friendship and following their dreams in the metropolitan setting of New York City — but their New York is one that favors the bright eyes of aspirations, rather than the dirt and grit of the struggle. The titular character (played by Lucy Hale) is pursuing becoming a fashion designer while working in a department store to make ends meet, Meanwhile Josie (Ashleigh Murray) moves to New York from the titular...

Joining the ranks of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Nancy Drew, Katy Keene is the newest series to enter the Riverdale TV universe. The musical dramedy series, now picked up for an entire season, will feature Katy Keene and Josie McCoy's adventures in New York City. Slated for a Feb. 6 air date, it's based on the Katy Keene comics, an offshoot of the original Archie ones. Since the show is so directly related to Riverdale, here's our most pressing question: when exactly does Katy Keene take place in the Riverdale timeline? The answer is relatively far into the future if we're going to use Riverdale's latest season as a base.
Long story short, Katy Keene will be five years ahead of Riverdale as we know it now, taking place after Josie (Ashleigh Murray) leaves Riverdale to pursue her music career in New York. Josie, now an adult, will share...

The Archie Universe on TV is set to expand with the upcoming addition of Katy Keene, and after viewing the three episodes available for critics, I can say that the series offers something new for the franchise.
Instead of being shrouded in darkness like Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Katy Keene plays out more like a New York-set fairytale, and in the process, it shines a light on the pitfalls of trying to become rich and famous.
Lucy Hale leads the cast as the titular character.
You would think the actress would be over the teen drama genre after roles in Privileged, Life Sentence, and, of course, Pretty Little Liars., but Hale embodies the character well, using her full acting range to convey this colorful confection of a character that first originated in comic-book form.

In the Archie comics, Ginger Lopez is an NYC transplant and teen magazine editor with her own clothing line. In Riverdale, Ginger is a former River Vixen and a relatively minor character in season one. In the forthcoming Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene, Ginger is the drag alter ego of Jorge Lopez, who works at his family's bodega by day and performs at a local club by night. Penny Dreadful and Stonewall actor Jonny Beauchamp is taking on the dual role in The CW's latest series, and the 30-year-old NYC native may be even more interesting than his larger-than-life character, if that's possible. Read on to learn more about the fascinating actor before we meet Jorge/Ginger on Feb. 6, when Katy Keene finally premieres.

Riverdale will give fans their first look at Katy Keene (Lucy Hale) ahead of the latest spinoff.
The CW has unveiled the official photos from Riverdale Season 4 Episode 12, and they show Veronica Lodge (Camilla Mendes) traveling to New York and meeting up with her old pal.
If you watch Riverdale online, you know Veronica lived in New York before touching down in the murder capital of the small screen.
The special episode focuses on Veronica gearing up for a college interview in New York, which allows her to reconnect with Katy.
They will chat about their lives, and go on a shopping spree.
“Before Katy Keene officially premieres, we all thought it would be super fun to do a crossover that took Veronica to Katy’s world — New York City — and established Katy in the Riverdale universe,” executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi said in a statement when the crossover was announced.

In advance of Katy Keene‘s series premiere next month, the CW has ordered 13 additional scripts of the Riverdale spinoff headlined by Lucy Hale.
The script order joins early renewals for next season of all 13 of the CW’s current scripted series that are not ending this season: All American, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Charmed, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, The Flash, In The Dark, Legacies, Nancy Drew, Riverdale, Roswell, New Mexico and Supergirl.
The additional script order is a strong vote of confidence to Katy Keene. With its pedigree — being spinoff from the CW’s hit drama Riverdale based on the Archie Comics characters, coming from A-list creative auspices, Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and toplined by a CW star, Hale — a Season 2 renewal for Katy Keene was considered likely.

“Katy Keene” may be set in the Archie Comics universe. But it’s a long way from “Riverdale.”
That point is made, first, by a series-opening sequence in which Katy (Lucy Hale) announces “Welcome to New York!” while watching her roommate, a drag queen (Jonny Beauchamp), perform; only moments before, the Taylor Swift song “Welcome to New York” had been playing as Katy went about her job at an upscale department store. Later in the pilot, Josie (Ashleigh Murray), now an aspiring vocalist who operates without her backing Pussycats, announces she has little to fear in the big city: “I am from Riverdale. It’s the murder capital of the world.”
Indeed, the problems in “Katy Keene’s” New York seem more prosaic than in the drug-and-violence-strewn small town of “Riverdale” — and the show is better for it. Katy, here, is a would-be designer seeking to balance work, friends, and...

Is Riverdale getting too dark and gory for you? Well, The CW might have just what you need with Katy Keene — debuting Thursday, Feb. 6 at 8/7c — a light and breezy Riverdale spinoff starring Lucy Hale as the titular fashion designer chasing her dreams in New York City. “A Star Is Born” actor Shangela will guest star on The CW’s upcoming “Riverdale” spinoff “Katy Keene” as a “ruthless” drag queen, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum is playing Devereaux, the pageant rival of Ginger Lopez/Jorge, played by Jonny Beauchamp. Here’s the official description for the character: From internet personality to A-list drag queen. Her greatest talent is flaunting this wave of success. Her ruthless competitiveness is what keeps her on top.
Currently, Shangela’s character is set to appear in Episode 106 of the Lucy Hale-led series, which will premiere at midseason on The CW, but an individual with knowledge of the casting tells us she could come back for future episodes down the line.

Exclusive: The CW’s upcoming Katy Keene is once again expanding its family: Broadway legend Bernadette Peters has been cast as a mother figure to Julia Chan’s Pepper Smith, one of Katy’s close friends and inner circle.
Peters will play “Ms. Freesia,” described as “Pepper Smith’s eccentrically elegant surrogate mother and mentor” who “taught Pepper in the art of the con.” What’s more, “Ms. Freesia” is “a wealthy Upper East sider who secured her luxurious lifestyle through cunning means and is actively forming Pepper in her fabulous image.”
Chan’s Pepper is the name-dropping “It Girl” of Katy’s inner circle of friends. She’s the type who is always in the right place at the right time, knows all the hip people and is a sort of link between Katy’s gang and the red-velvet-rope crowd.
