Following the standard set by a certain punchy tower-block inhabiting modern classic, any Indonesian action movie is going to have their work cut out for them for the next decade or so. Even that film’s own follow-up, The Raid 2 (come on, you knew what we were talking about) paled in comparison to its predecessor, which Judge Dredd himself struggled to live up to.
Taking a jab at the crown is Headshot, an equally violent, no-holds barred action movie which stars none other than The Raid’s Iko Uwais. Shot in the head (hence the title) and left for dead, amnesiac ‘Ishmael’ washes up on an Indonesian shore and, after a short coma, is nursed back to health by lovely...

Thrilling fight scenes and dizzyingly relentless action elevate this Indonesian adventure to headspinning heights
The title gives just a hint of the full extent of cranial damage crammed into this dizzyingly relentless action movie. Heads are shot, punched, kicked, clobbered with typewriters, dented with retractable truncheons and submitted to some particularly grisly eye-socket trauma. Indonesian genre specialists the Mo Brothers (Timo Tjahjanto, Kimo Stamboel) tackle the martial arts genre, and the result is the most insanely violent film of the year.
The whiplash pencak silat skills of Iko Uwais (star of The Raid and both star and fight choreographer of this film) and his Raid co-star Julie Estelle are showcased, alongside those of a host of expendable other fighters. Notable are Very Tri Yulisman, playing a killer hipster with ironic spectacles and a Hoxton haircut, and Sunny Pang, radiating evil as the Father from Hell, a powerful crime boss with...

"I died once. I won't die again." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a kick ass new action-packed trailer for the Indonesian action film Headshot, starring Iko Uwais from The Raid movies, directed by the guys who made that totally crazy "Safe Haven" segment of V/H/S 2. We initially featured a trailer for this film last year just before it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, but this new one is much better and makes this movie look like a must see. Uwais plays a guy who wakes up without any memory, only to sudden remember everything and go after the gangsters who took the love of his life. The cast includes Julie Estelle, Sunny Pang, Very Tri Yulisman and others. This looks totally awesome, I'm so ready to give this film a shot. Enjoy. Here's the newest trailer for Kimo Stamboel & Timo Tjahjanto's Headshot, via The Playlist's Facebook: You...

With its relatively simple premise and mesmerizing fight choreography, Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans produced a modern-day cult classic in The Raid: Redemption five years ago, a low-budget thriller that crammed in more stomach-churning deaths and dizzying Silat stunts that you can shake a machete at. It also fostered a kick-ass working relationship between Evans and Indonesian action star Iko Uwais, who went on to reunite for The Raid 2 in 2014.
Headlining two critically-acclaimed action movies in the space of three years undoubtedly put Uwais on the international map, and with Tiff 2016 looming large, the actor is returning to the fray for amnesiac thriller, Headshot.
Directed by Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto – the latter of whom penned the screenplay – what has us cautiously optimistic for this latest Uwais-fronted actioner is how Headshot looks to balance its visceral, bone-crunching action with a story that, at least based on today’s brief trailer,...

Indonesian based Mo Brothers (actual names Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto) make yet another turn in their career. From low budget slasher “Macabre” to internationally backed thriller”Killers,” and now to a genuine action film, with “Headshot.”
In a sort of Indonesian edition of Jason Bourne, the film features Iko Uwais as Ismail, an amnesiac who washes ashore with a serious head injury. A woman doctor (Chelsea Islan) nurses him back to health as he falls in love with her. Eventually though, he discovers that he is a trained killing machine, as his past returns to haunt him.
Julie Estelle, Very Tri Yulisman and Sunny Pang also star in the film.
“Headshot” is much reminiscent of “The Raid:Redemption”, with impressive and quite violent action.
The film will premiere at Toronto International Film Festival.

"Whatever happens. I'll find you. I have to find you." Yes!! The first trailer has arrived online for the new action film from Indonesia called Headshot, starring Iko Uwais from The Raid, directed by the guys who made that totally crazy "Safe Haven" segment of V/H/S 2. The film is premiering at Midnight at the Toronto Film Festival starting this week, so this trailer is a nice tease for everyone who isn't there, but it will make you wish you were seeing this. The cast includes Julie Estelle, Sunny Pang, Very Tri Yulisman and others. This looks so awesome!! There's glimpses of badass action scenes and shootouts in this and I can't wait to see it. Not sure if it will live up to The Raid movies, but that doesn't really matter because Iko Uwais is back. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Kimo Stamboel & Timo Tjahjanto's Headshot,...

The Raid 2 (2014)
Directed by Gareth Evans
Runtime 150 minutes
Written and directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid 2 picks up right where the original film left off. Rama’s brother Andi (Donny Alamsyah) is executed by the crime syndicate after escaping the building. Rama (Iko Uwais) goes to Bunawar (Cok Simbara) and is asked to go undercover in a secret unit to expose the corruption of the Police Commissioner. Rama wants no part of it until he learns of his brother’s murder and the threats to his family. He goes to prison for assault where he is told it will only be for a few months. While there he must gain the trust of Uco (Arifin Putra), son of the head of Bangun’s (Tio Pakusodewo) criminal enterprise. When Rama is finally released from prison, Uco is waiting for him and he is given a job by Bangun.

2012's The Raid came with a flurry of fanfare following a series of festival screenings touting it as a masterpiece of action cinema. Written and directed by Gareth Evans the film no doubt featured some impressive action choreography, but the story was non-existent to the point of boredom. That said, to say my expectations for The Raid 2 were limited is an understatement. When I saw it runs two-and-a-half hours my interest dwindled even more, expecting to see it, if ever, on Blu-ray. Well, I did and I'm very glad I did, proving expectations can sometimes cause you to miss something great. The immediate comparison here is to say The Raid 2 is to The Raid what Infernal Affairs 2 is to Infernal Affairs, but that's to give The Raid too much credit. The comparison to Infernal Affairs 2 alone, however, is apt. The two films follow somewhat similar storylines,...

If you.re a fan of the fantastic .The Raid. franchise (the film just received the Critics. Choice Seal of Approval), you may want to watch this interview. Gareth Evans, the writer/director behind the franchise, talks about the probability of making .The Raid 3. and the possible plotline. He also talks about his interest behind making part 2, how the whole franchise came about, what creating documentaries have taught him in making feature films, and the eye-popping action scenes of the series.

The Raid 2
Written and directed by Gareth Evans
Indonesia, 2014
The first reaction to Gareth Evans’ highly anticipated sequel to his blistering 2012 action movie is to complain to the Advertising Standards Authority. Despite the title’s implication, there is no specific raid here, at least not upon a single, individual location, a design mandated by the first film’s budgetary restrictions, which proved to be its central narrative triumph. Following on a mere 2 hours from the first film’s claustrophobic chaos, The Raid 2 continues the Olympian odyssey of compromised supercop Rama (Iko Uwais) as he is reluctantly recruited to a shadowy special task force led by his superior Bunawar (Cok Simbara). The corrupt city of Jakarta is afflicted with an indistinguishable line between good guys and bad guys, and has been carved into two via an uncertain truce between the Japanese yakuza headed by the Goto clan (Kenichi Endo...

Very Tri Yulisman Is Baseball Bat Man in The Raid 2 . He's a man, he has a baseball bat, and in this clip from The Raid 2 , he beats up guys on the street with that baseball bat. We're not sure how else we can describe this, folks. He's Baseball Bat Man. This is kind of what he does. It's more than a little badass. Gareth Evans' The Raid 2 , the sequel to the cult hit martial arts showcase The Raid: Redemption , is now playing in theaters.

The Raid 2 is a beautifully brutal ballet, a symphony of destruction if you will, masterfully choreographed with the grace of Swan Lake – just with a tad more blood, broken bodies, and blown open skulls. Gareth Evans follows one of the best action movies in years (The Raid) with an action sequel that makes the Mad Dog tag team rumble seem like child’s play – an inconceivable task. Evans expands upon his universe, abandoning the one building setting, and is able to create vibrant characters and captivating surroundings – but we’re here for the ass kicking. The Raid 2 is stylish, relentless, pulse-pounding action that packs a heavyweight punch, leaving the competition bloody, bruised, and begging for mercy. You’re not going to find action with more fury and flair anywhere else.
