There will be no second season for High School. Amazon Freevee has canceled the coming-of-age drama based on Tegan and Sara Quin’s bestselling memoir after one season, Deadline has confirmed.
The cancellation is not a big surprise. The series’ last aired its first and only 8-episode season in October 2022.
Produced by Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment, High School is a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimic your own. Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaved between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.

From comic-book adaptations to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Here are the new geek-skewed shows coming to Us TV in 2016...
The world of TV has never been so crowded and, at the same time, geeks have never had it so good. As saturated as the big screen is with superhero films and sprawling shared universes, that mentality has well and truly bled onto the small screen too.
So there’s a lot of comic-book adaptations coming up in 2016 from Marvel, DC and others, but genre TV is represented across the board with science-fiction, fantasy and horror represented at pretty much every network and cable channel in the Us.
Here's some of the geek TV that will be making its way to us from the Us next year.

Jack O’Connell is the most exciting young actor to break out in years, and he makes this overly familiar film worth your time… if only just. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

First of all: Jack O’Connell. This guy is the most exciting young actor to break out in years. He’s been around British TV for a while, but his recent one-two feature-film punch of Starred Up and ’71 (the latter of which will open in the U.S. in February 2015) put him in the not-to-be-ignored list. He’s a chameleon onscreen, all but unrecognizable from one role to another: you’d be hard-pressed to see either the brash, already hardened Londoner teen felon of Starred Up or the earnest, terrified young British soldier of ’71 in...

Chicago – Olympic runner, plane crash survivor, and WWII Pow Louis Zamperini had an extraordinary life of defeating even more profound conditions from cruel nature and fellow man. His is a tale of grandiose cinematic potential, especially considering our desire for beat-down underdogs and their gauntlets of adversity, but such gets a surface-level treatment from director Angelina Jolie’s underwhelming tribute “Unbroken.”
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The film is a chronicle of Zamperini’s struggles, a narrative that beats a character down specifically to see them endure. Embodying Zamperini is Jack O’Connell, a rising actor with an immense amount of power inside him, even though this movie undersells it with whimsical stoicism. (If you’re looking for a great role to see the biggest sense of this, I recommend his 2014 bloody-knuckle prison drama “Starred Up.”)
“Unbroken” has a strange flaw in that it makes plain a man of astonishing heroism. From the very beginning of the story,...

Each year when my Bfca ballot arrives I stop in my tracks, stumped, when I get to "Young Performer". Categories that aren't Oscar correlative are often trickier.
Oh dear. How uneasy I feel..."
That's not because you're free of predicting (anyone trying to predict with their own ballot really ought to find a new profession -- criticism: ur not doing it right) but because it's a subsection of acting you probably haven't been discussing at all. You suddenly remember that you need to have been considering it with as much seriousness as you have made your other selections.
I imagine that Ellar Coltrane, the now 20 year old star of Boyhood, will be tough to beat since this category is for the 21 and under set. But even if the category were adjusted downward to 17 and younger (which we strongly support as a rule change -because it's always weird when an adult...

For Unbroken, her latest stint behind the camera, Angelina Jolie has picked an emotional and occasionally harrowing true story: that of American icon Louis Zamperini. The latest trailer for the biopic, which is already drawing awards talk, is now online.‘71’s Jack O’Connell is the star of the film as the younger Zamperini brother, a ne'er-do-well-turned-la high-school athlete who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. During World War II, his Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific, leaving him without food and water for 28 days, enduring shark attacks, starvation and strafing by enemy planes. He eventually ended up on a Japanese island behind enemy lines, where he was held as a prisoner of war for two years and tortured by his captors.Working from a script that has seen contributions from William Nicholson, Richard Lagravenese and the Coen brothers, Jolie has rounded up a cast that also includes Domhnall Gleeson,...
