After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now deep into its twelve month shooting schedule… and during an appearance at the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s 10th anniversary celebration, cast member David Harbour said the series finale will be worth the wait, because it’s the best episode they’ve ever done.
Stranger Things has the following synopsis: A love letter to the ‘80s classic genre films that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is a thrilling drama set in the seemingly normal Midwestern town of Hawkins, Indiana. The character of Jim Hopper on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things has a tragic history, having lost a young daughter named Sara to cancer – an illness he blames on the fact that he served in the Chemical Corps during the Vietnam War and worked with Agent Orange. Sara was glimpsed in flashbacks in the season 1 finale, where she was played by child actress Elle Graham. The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is currently in production, and Sara will be making another appearance in this last batch of episodes – but that Stranger Things season 1 finale was eight years ago, so Graham, who is now 15 years old, has aged out of the role. That’s why Carmen Cuba Casting has sent out a casting call letting us know that Stranger Things is looking for a new, US-based actress who resembles Graham and can play Sara in Stranger Things season...

Sinéad O’Connor’s exact cause of the death has been revealed a year after her death.
As reported by The New York Times and Irish Independent, the Irish singer died last year of “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low-grade lower respiratory-tract infection.”
The information was made available for the first time via her death certificate, which was registered last week. It was submitted by her first husband, John Reynolds, who produced various of her albums including I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss, her final completed LP before her death.
In January, the medical examiner’s office in London told The Hollywood Reporter that O’Connor died of natural causes. “The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death,” the office said in a statement. “No further comments will be made.”

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now six months into its twelve month shooting schedule… and cast member Maya Hawke, who joined the show in season 3 to play Robin Buckley, told Podcrushed that each of the eight episodes is so long, it’s like they’re making eight movies.
Hawke said (with thanks to Deadline for the transcription), “Our showrunners, Matt and Ross (Duffer), take a lot of responsibility. They have an amazing team of writers, but they’re very involved. They write a lot and they are very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and it takes a long time to write each season, and it takes a long time to shoot them.

Last year, Abbott Elementary's second season ended with an epic fake out: while on a sleepover school trip, Janine and Gregory confessed their feelings for each other in the surprisingly romantic setting of The Franklin Institute (who knew!) and then... decided to stay friends??
Fans of the show either swooned at this continuation of their slow-burn relationship or lost hope (and interest) in the series ever delivering on this particular storyline.
In either case, it seemed a safe bet that these two characters would spend a lot of time apart during the next season and maybe even explore other dating opportunities.
Season 3 opened with a five-month time jump (a creative way to account for delays from the Hollywood writers and actors strikes) and with Janine now working for the Philadelphia school district.
This potentially series-changing news was walked back a bit when we learned that it's only a temporary internship...

The fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things was supposed to go into production right around the time the writers strike hit earlier this year – so it had to be put on hold, and then there was another reason for it to stay on hold when the actors strike hit. Season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things is also going to be the final season of the show. It was supposed to be deep into production by now, but it has been slowed down due to the Hollywood strikes – first the writers strike, then the ongoing actors strike. It remains to be seen when filming is going to begin, but yesterday, November 6, 2023, was the 40th anniversary of the day Will Byers went missing in the town of Hawkins, Indiana in the first season of Stranger Things. So the show’s writers marked the occasion by sharing the first lines from the first episode of season 5 on social media:

A few months ago, it was announced that 10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg will be directing an episode of Stranger Things season 5 – which also happens to be the final season of the hugely popular Netflix streaming series. That season was supposed to be deep into production by now, but has been delayed several months due to the writers and actors strikes. The writers strike recently ended, now we just need the actors strike to come to an end so Stranger Things can get rolling. While waiting for his chance to report to the Stranger Things set, Trachtenberg has been doing the press rounds to promote the physical media release of his Predator movie Prey… and during a conversation with Collider, he talked about signing on to bring an episode of Stranger Things to the screen and working with the show’s creators The Duffer Brothers.

San Francisco, Aug 11 (Ians) Regulators in the US state of California have given the green signal to autonomous car companies Cruise and Waymo to run commercial robotaxi services across San Francisco 24/7.
After a six-hour hearing, The California Public Utilities Commission’s (Cpuc) voted in favour of the companies late on Thursday, despite protests from residents and city agencies, reports TechCrunch.
Cruise and Waymo currently offer limited paid services in San Francisco, with a human safety operator present.
The permit extension allows the companies to expand their services significantly and with no limit on the number of robotaxis they can put on the roads, said the report.
“Today is the first of many steps in bringing Av transportation services to Californians,” said Cpuc Commissioner John Reynolds.
Waymo said the decision as “a major moment” in the history of autonomous vehicles.

Season 5 of the Netflix series Stranger Things – which also happens to be the final season of the show – was supposed to be a couple months into filming at this point. But production was delayed by the writers strike, then the writers were joined on the picket lines by members of the Screen Actors Guild. So it’s going to be a little while before this season finally gets up and running. While we wait for the strikes to be resolved, Stranger Things creators Duffer Brothers have gone ahead and revealed that the character of Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, will be taking center stage in this last season.
The first season of Stranger Things began with Will Byers disappearing into the twisted dimension known as the Upside Down. He eventually got out of there, but he has had plenty of troubles to deal with in the following seasons. Will...

A couple weeks ago, it was announced that Terminator star Linda Hamilton has signed on to play a role in season 5 of the Netflix series Stranger Things – which also happens to be the final season of the show. Now Netflix has revealed that 10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg will be directing an episode of Stranger Things season 5. They didn’t say which episode he’ll be directing – the premiere, the finale, some episode that will fall in between – but we will be seeing a Trachtenberg-helmed episode somewhere along the line.
Stranger Things season 5 was supposed to be filming right now, but the start of production has been delayed due to the writers strike.
Stranger Things season 4 had the following synopsis: It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for...

“Yellowjackets” will look to take the Emmys by storm again after the first season of the Showtime hit came away with seven bids including a nomination for Best Drama Series. The show follows a high-school girls soccer team that survives a plane crash. What seems at first a lucky escape, however, soon devolves into something far more nightmarish as they try to survive in the Canadian wilderness. That’s one half of the story, set in 1996. The other half of the series focuses on the survivors as adults 25 years later in 2021.
The show stars Melanie Lynskey in the lead role — the adult version of Shauna — while Elijah Wood joined the season two cast as Walter Tattersall, a detective who tries to help Christina Ricci‘s Misty. “The Lord of the Rings” alum is a welcome addition to the cast of “Yellowjackets” and fits right in alongside fellow child actor Ricci.

If you are here, then by now, you are done binge-watching Based On A True Story. Peacock’s latest crime comedy is slowly becoming a rage thanks to its addictive murder mystery storyline with a dash of comedy. But the problem is, it gets over in no time, as there are only eight episodes. However, right now, we are not certain if or when we will get the second season of the show. So, what we need at the moment is a fix—a show as exciting as Based On A True Story. That is why I have decided to step in with a list of shows that might just do the trick for you. Not all of these are going to be murder mysteries, as I would be exploring things beyond the obvious similarity. My objective is to suggest a show to you that can mirror the same experience...

The Season 2 finale of “Yellowjackets” left us with dropped jaws — and a lot of questions. We still don’t know who “pit girl” is, but we did see how things escalate to the point where the survivors began hunting each other to stay alive.
Although, as creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson told TheWrap before the Season 2 premiere, not every question will be answered. Said Nickerson, when asked if he minded the comparisons to the often frustrating “Lost”: “I don’t always want everything to be answered. Like, I do and I don’t, because so much of what made ‘Lost’ so engrossing was the mystery, not just the mystery of what happened, but the sort of reclamation of the spookiness of being alive. You can’t give all the answers and maintain that spookiness.”
With that in mind, here are some of the most pressing issues that still need to be answered.

This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2 episode 9.
After a complex, fascinating, brutal two months, the "Yellowjackets" season finale is here. "Storytelling" is directed by the brilliant Karyn Kusama, so we should already be prepared for some horror and a whole lot of heartbreak. The episode opens with an always killer needle-drop, "Zombie" by The Cranberries. It underscores a nearly comatose teenage Nat walking through the wilderness and heading back to the cabin knowing she must tell Travis that Javi has drowned.
Travis is relieved to see her alive but immediately mortified when the rest of the girls come back with a half-frozen Javi hanging from a wooden bar. "The wilderness chose," she tells him, but Travis' grief is insurmountable. His little brother who finally returned after months of being missing in the woods is gone. Really, really gone.
In the present timeline, adult Shauna agrees with Lottie's plan...

In season one of "Yellowjackets," fans were shocked to learn that Shauna (Sophie Nélisse as a teen and Melanie Lynskey as an adult), while trapped with her teammates in the woods, is pregnant. Before leaving on what was meant to be a trip to nationals, she had sex multiple times with Jeff, the boyfriend of her best friend Jackie (Ella Purnell). In the present day, Jeff (played by Warren Kole as an adult) and Shauna are married and have a teen daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins). But Callie was born in 2004, so fans always knew she wasn't the baby Shauna is pregnant with in the woods in 1996. It takes 19 months for the Yellowjackets to be saved, so fans also knew Shauna was no longer pregnant when the rescue finally happened. In episode six, released May 5 on streaming, viewers finally learn the baby's sad fate.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Yellowjackets."
Shauna Sadecki (Melanie Lynskey) never wanted kids. She confesses as much in the centerpiece scene of this week's episode of "Yellowjackets," a powerful monologue from Lynskey in a season that's been in part built around powerful monologues from Lynskey. Shauna never wanted a family, she says, but she loves them despite herself. In the context of this, the most heartbreaking episode of the show to date, it's impossible not to think of her first child here, who we now know was stillborn in the wilderness.
Yet when Shauna speaks to the police with obvious warmth in her voice, making it clear that she's happy as a mom despite her instincts screaming otherwise, it's not the baby who comes to mind, but Callie (Sarah Desjardins). Callie, who just lied to a cop in one of the show's most hilarious and darkly satisfying scenes yet.

Sarah Desjardins had the enormous good luck — and talent — to land on two of the hottest TV shows in a row: She plays Callie, the daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), on the hit Showtime series “Yellowjackets,” and was also Maddie, the kidnapped daughter of the vice president, on the Netflix thriller “Night Agent.”

For the first time this season, Yellowjackets is taking a brief pause in between episodes. Unfortunately, this means that we’ll have to wait a week longer to see what happens to Shauna’s (Sophie Nélisse) baby, whether the Sadeckis will be able to fool the cops, and how cult life treats Misty (Christina Ricci) in the present.
At the end of episode 5 “Two Truths and a Lie,” Shauna begins to give birth in the wilderness soon after Lottie (Courtney Eaton) gives her a blanket with the symbol of the forest stitched into it. Misty also kinda killed Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman) after confessing to her that she destroyed the plane’s black box. In the present, Misty has pushed Walter (Elijah Wood) away and decided to join Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) cult, not believing that Natalie (Juliette Lewis) is there of her own free will.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 5, “Two Truths and a Lie.”]
Faith can be an interesting thing. In religion, it offers many people comfort and purpose; an explanation for how the world works and a framework with which to live a meaningful life.
Then there is the other kind of faith: Trust. Where religious faith is mostly internal, trusting a person, idea, or institution depends as much on the recipient as on the believer. When you lose faith in someone, it’s because of something they did.
Both types of faith feature prominently in “Yellowjackets” Season 2, Episode 5, “Two Truths and a Lie,” written by Sarah L. Thompson and Katherine Kearns and directed by Ben Semanoff. This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2, episode 1.
If you watched "Yellowjackets" season 1, I doubt your favorite character was Callie Sadecki (Sarah Desjardins). The teenage daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) and Jeff (Warren Kole), she didn't have much personality beyond stereotypical "spoiled teenage daughter" character tropes. Callie's most memorable scene in season 1 was at her expense; in episode 5, "Blood Hive," Callie discovers her mom is cheating on her dad with Adam (Peter Gadiot). Callie tries to blackmail Shauna by threatening to tell Jeff, only to back down once Shauna explains how ruinous a divorce would be for Callie.
Shauna's affair with Adam ended with her murdering him. Now this season, she and Jeff (who is standing by her after several mutual misunderstandings) are trying to keep the crime covered up. Callie has been suspicious since she saw a missing person's report on Adam and grows even more distant from her parents.

The first season of “Yellowjackets” definitely hit a nerve with its inspired combination of “Now and Then,” “Lord of the Flies” and “Alive”; the series quickly became one of Showtime’s most successful ever, with about 5 million viewers tuning in each week.
The inspired premise of a group of plane crash survivors — told in the “then” and “now” — was only enhanced by the stellar cast who brought it to life, like Melanie Lynskey as Shauna, now a suburban mom and housewife with homicidal impulses; Juliette Lewis as the edgy, extremely damaged grown-up Natalie; and Christina Ricci as the obsessive Misty, who was basically to blame for the entire disaster, as her teenage self (Samantha Hanratty) was enjoying the camaraderie of the girls’ life in the wild so much that she destroyed the plane’s black box to prevent the team from getting rescued in the first place.

"Stranger Things" continues to impress as arguably one of the best shows ever produced on TV. The series, created by Matt and Ross Duffer, about a group of kids who stumble upon a young girl with extraordinary powers, perfectly blends horror, action, comedy, drama, and a hefty dose of heart, much of which is due to the remarkable cast of actors. Winona Ryder and David Harbour lead the way. Still, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, and Gaten Matarazzo often steal the show.
Of course, perhaps the best of the bunch is Matarazzo as the lovable nerd Dustin, a character as wise as he is silly. Whether pouring through cafeterias to find chocolate pudding, cursing angry adults, or chasing scary monsters, Dustin never ceases to entertain. Instead, he's so much fun I compiled a list of the character's 12 best moments on the show.
