Right off the bat in season four of 13 Reasons Why, Jessica Davis and Clay Jensen keep thinking they're seeing their dead classmates. Jessica sees Bryce Walker and Clay sees Monty de la Cruz, though both of them died in season three. Clay seeing Monty is particularly concerning, as it's all part of Clay experiencing dissociation as part of his trauma. Seeing dead people is one part of Clay's dissociation, and another is destruction, including vandalizing the school.
Students arrive at Liberty High one morning to find that someone has spray-painted a message on the school's main office door that says "Monty was framed" in bright red paint. No one knows who did it, but Clay, Jessica, and the rest of their friends start to worry that someone knows the truth about what happened in season three: Monty, who was killed in jail, didn't actually murder Bryce, even though the murder was pinned on him.

13 Reasons Why's remarkable first season centers on the suicide of Hannah Baker, but if you forgot about the other untimely death - that of Jeff Atkins - you missed a major callback in season four.
Let's rewind to season one, episode five: "Tape 3, Side A." Clay is tutoring jock and all-around-good-guy Jeff, and the two make a deal that if Jeff gets higher than a C, Clay will go to the school dance. Clay loses, and winds up at the dance. This ends up being a pivotal moment in Hannah's storyline, but there's also an important scene where Clay sits with Jeff on the bleachers and Jeff tries to convince him to ask Hannah to dance. In actuality, Jeff is wearing a gray suit. But in Clay's dream sequence that opens the episode, Jeff is wearing a white tux.

The following contains spoilers for 13 Reasons Why season 4.
Netflix’s controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why finally wrapped up the stories of its outlandishly troubled youths this weekend with the fourth and final season. Spanning 10 episodes and a feature-length finale, it’s time for the Liberty High students to graduate and, as is a tradition for any show that gets to this point, there is enough death, mayhem and introspection to send the characters off into adulthood with their innocence firmly stripped away and their eyes fixed forward.
But what exactly did that entail? And is anyone left intact? We’re here to break it down.
Whose funeral has been teased?
Episodes of the fourth season were bookended not by the usual character voiceovers typical of seasons 1-3, but with yet another funeral for a mysterious member of the school community. While there might have been clues eager fans picked up...

Even if you watched all 13 episodes in season three of 13 Reasons Why, there's a chance you don't remember a single thing. The season is centered around Bryce Walker's murder, but since the timeline isn't chronological and is instead confusing Af, you may have already forgotten that another major character ends up dead: Montgomery de la Cruz. Seeing as season four drops on June 5, now seems like a good time to review what happened to Monty in 13 Reasons Why's third season and what led to his unexpected (and totally abrupt) death in a prison cell.
Season three picks up after the events of Spring Fling, when Tyler Down shows up to the dance armed with a gun. Monty's story, however, doesn't pick up until the summer after junior year, when he goes to a Hillcrest party and meets Winston Williams. The two hook up, but when Winston asks Monty to...

13 Reasons Why Season 4 arrives on Netflix in one week, and the streamer has dropped a new sneak peak.
The clip involves Winston (Deaken Bluman) trying to get answers from Ani (Grace Saif) following Monty's death.
"Tell me what really happened and I swear to you I'll never mention it again, to anyone," he sais to a clearly shocked Ani.
"Just tell me what really happened."
Unfortunately for Winston, Ani has the best poker face out there, and gives him the following response:
"I don't know."
It's an awkward scene, for sure, and Winston leaves with the following:
"Why lie to me? What good does that do?"
Indeed, there would be no show if these teenagers told the truth.
Through three seasons, we've had a suicide, an almost school shooting, sexual assault, and murder.
It's been an exhausting series, and with us heading into the final season, there has to be some consequences for the characters.

"13 Reasons Why" star Alisha Boe feels the popular series opens up a channel to have uncomfortable conversations for many. The actress, who essays the role of rape survivor Jessica Davis, in the hit young adult drama, says everyone goes through moments of depression and anxiety, and she is proud that the makers don't shy away from addressing it.
"The show reflects what's going on in the society and the world today. I feel like everything, every issue that we tackle on the show at some point in your life, we've struggled with, I mean, it's human nature," Alisha told Ians over the phone.

Who killed Bryce Walker? That’s the central question in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming season of “13 Reasons Why” — and everyone’s a suspect.
Season 3 picks up with the mysterious murder of the show’s antagonist Bryce (Justin Prentice), a high school student accused of sexual assault. However Walker’s mom is out for justice.
“It is my wish to find the person who killed my son,” Walker’s mother demands to a police officer, who promises, “We are working every angle and we will find out what happened.”
Everyone had a reason to want Walker dead, meaning anyone at Liberty High could be responsible. As the students are questioned by the police, it seems that no one is safe, and no one can be trusted.
“Someone we know could have done this,” Justin Foley (Brandon Flynn) tells Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe).
“That’s crazy,” Davis responds.

The highly anticipated season three of 13 Reasons Why drops on Aug. 23 and although she remains behind the scenes, Selena Gomez is still involved in the series. The singer referred to it as "a passion project" in 2017, and in addition to actively promoting the show on social media, she also spent time with its stars during and post-production. After season one premiered, Gomez, Alisha Boe (who plays Jessica Davis), and Tommy Dorfman (who plays Ryan Shaver) got matching semicolon tattoos to symbolize suicide awareness and prevention.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez is still an executive producer along with her mom, Mandy Teefey, and Joy Gorman, Kristel Laiblin, and the late Steve Golin for Anonymous Content. On Aug. 1 she retweeted the season three trailer, but Gomez hasn't been as publicly involved as she was at the series' outset. "I haven't seen Selena," star Anne Winters (who plays Chlöe Rice) told Us Weekly in December.

If you've been analyzing True Detective season three frame by frame like we have, chances are you've noticed a familiar face. No, we're not referring to Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. We're actually talking about one of our favorite breakout stars, Brandon Flynn.
Our beloved reformed bad boy from 13 Reasons Why has been popping up in the third season of the crime show, and we think there's a possibility he might be around for a few more episodes. Flynn plays Ryan Peters, a teenage boy who hangs with a troublesome crowd. On the day Julie and Will Purcell go missing, witness testimony reveals Peters and his two friends crossed paths with the two children. Following the children's disappearance, Peters is brought in for questioning, and he is interrogated about his Black Sabbath T-shirt (to determine his interest in the occult). While Flynn is only listed in the first two episodes of True Detective on IMDb,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains a spoiler for the end of “13 Reasons Why” Season 2.
The team behind Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” can’t help but notice the “eerie” parallels there seem to be between its series and the recent Senate testimonies of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford.
Kristel Laiblin, an executive producer on the series, said Ford’s testimony that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school reminded her of “13 Reasons Why’s” Season 1 storyline in which Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe) was raped by classmate Bryce Walker, who is protected by his friend, and later, when he is arrested, receives only three months’ probation in Season 2.
“When Dr. Ford was explaining what happened to her in that room, six people that day said, ‘I kept thinking of that scene with Jessica on your show in Season 1,'” she said. “And me too — and that’s...

At Saturday’s MTV Movie and TV Awards, “13 Reasons Why” star Alisha Boe said the sexual assault case against former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner shaped her performance as a rape survivor pursuing justice against her rapist.
“The Brock Turner case was my bible and what I drew a lot of inspiration from,” Boe told Variety on the red carpet. “Brock Turner walked away with a slap on the wrist, and he got three months, famously, so we just really wanted to shed some light on the reality of what it’s like for a [rape survivor] to go against her attacker.”

Alisha Boe “was so excited to go back to season two” of “13 Reasons Why” because she wanted to continue her character Jessica Davis’s journey of recovery from sexual assault. “In the first season you see her coming to terms,” Boe explains. “It ends with her finally being able to tell her father what happened to her. And when I heard we had a season-two pickup I was so excited … I just really wanted to see Jessica have a little light of hope.” Boe discussed portraying a sexual assault survivor during a Netflix Fysee panel on June 1. Watch her above.

Season one of 13 Reasons Why places Justin Foley at the center of Hannah Baker's story by featuring him in the very first tape. His role in her demise runs throughout the series, but essentially emanates from two events - his first date with Hannah and Jessica Davis's party junior year.
Justin first meets Hannah at a going-away celebration for his girlfriend Kat. In the days that follow Kat's departure, Justin and Hannah begin a playful flirtation that leads to their first date at Eisenhower Park. The two quickly fall for each other, and we see Justin insist on taking Hannah's picture to commemorate their evening. At the time, she is sitting atop the Rocket Slide, and feels the photograph may reveal too much since she's wearing a skirt. Initially, Justin relents but, as she comes down the slide, he takes the snapshot anyway. In an effort to ease Hannah's embarrassment,...

13 Reasons Why tells the tragic, unsettling story behind Hannah Baker's suicide. Each episode of season one is associated with a cassette tape, and each tape names an individual whose actions contributed to her death. Tape 9 addresses Justin Foley - his second in the series - but the events revealed on that tape largely refer to a girl that Hannah chooses not to name: "You'd been with the same girl all night," Hannah explains. "But I'm not gonna call her out by name even though, if you were at that party, you already know."
The party in question is the back-to-school celebration thrown by Jessica Davis at the start of their junior year. She and Justin met during Summer school and spend most of the evening groping each other. Eventually, they make their way to Jessica's bedroom to have sex, but it quickly becomes apparent that Jessica is too drunk to consent.

Still reeling from the loss of Jeff Atkins? So are we. With all of the flashbacks and dream sequences, 13 Reasons Why offers a lot to think about when it comes to Liberty High's star pitcher. For instance, did you realize Jeff's car accident happens prior to the events in the first episode? If you rewatch the season, you'll find Jeff only appears in Clay Jensen's flashbacks. Moreover, Jeff's death is the one Principal Bolan and many of the students are referring to when they mention a drunk-driving incident that rocked the community.
Because Jeff is mentioned in season two, you may want a refresher. Let's break down the six tapes that explain exactly what happened to Jeff Atkins.

13 Reasons Why blends the past with the present to show that even the smallest event can have a large ripple effect. If you've reached the third episode of the second season, you see one of those tiny moments come to life in the form of a simple message on a postcard. While Clay Jensen sits in Jessica Davis's room and questions her on Justin Foley's whereabouts, we see her glance toward a postcard stuck in the corner of the mirror over her desk. Clay notices the gesture as well and pulls down the postcard while Jessica has her back turned.
The camera then pans in tight to reveal that the front of the card contains a graphic that reads, "Greetings, From Oakland, California," while the handwritten message on the reverse side says, "Nancy, I'll always love you. Sid." We don't get an explanation in the moment,...

The first season of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why reveals the unfortunate series of events leading up to and following the suicide of high school teenager Hannah Baker. Following her death, the students of Liberty High are introduced to a series of tapes Hannah records to explain the events that led her to end her life.
One student, Clay Jensen, who had been particularly fond of Hannah, takes a special interest in the tapes. Unlike his peers, however, Clay doesn't actually do any harm to Hannah. Instead, Hannah chooses to include him in the tapes because she feels he needs to hear her side of the story.
Clay is a supportive friend to Hannah, often being a sounding board for her to vent to during their shifts together working at the local movie theater. Though he momentarily feels guilty for his near-sexual interaction with Hannah at Jessica Davis's house party,...

NetflixThe absence of Hannah Baker is palpable, although the series is high on drama and loaded with relevant topics. But the real question is - Is it worth it?Hemanth Kumar C R*Spoilers ahead In 2017, when Brian Yorkey’s adaptation of Jay Asher’s bestselling novel Thirteen Reasons Why made its debut on Netflix, it was an instant hit across the world. The series delved into the life of Hannah Baker, a student at Liberty High School, and her struggle to find love and relationships, left a long-lasting impression. It wasn’t just yet another teenage drama about how hard life at high school is - 13 Reasons Why did not just underline the trials and tribulations of a young woman, grappling with loneliness and heartbreak, but was also a scathing commentary on the bullying and systematic lack of failure to address the issue that has taken a toll on thousands of students across the globe. The first season followed the journey of Hannah, as she explains several reasons and introduces people at her school who were either partially or directly responsible for her suicide. However, it never found its closure and towards the end of the series, we are left with quite a few questions - will Hannah’s parents sue the school for their negligence or will they reach a settlement? How will Clay Jensen, a friend of Hannah's, come to terms with everything that Hannah confessed in her tapes? Who’s responsible for Hannah’s suicide? The second season of the Netflix series delves into all these questions and tries to weave an elaborate story behind the toxic culture in Liberty High School. In the process, it veers far away from the original story to give a wholesome picture of the events that led to Hannah’s suicide. One of the reasons why 13 Reasons Why (Season 1) worked so well is that it made us sympathise instantly with Hannah Baker, played by Katherine Langford. Her loneliness in a world filled with people who are mean and opportunistic couldn’t be more stark, but more than that, it was about a young girl questioning her faith in people around her. Except for Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette), who loved her unconditionally, Hannah’s tryst with her fellow students almost always ended in a tragic way. After portraying Hannah Baker as a victim, the second season shifts its focus on the students on the tapes and slowly, we begin to realise that there was more to Hannah’s story than what she revealed in the tapes. We are told that she was still in touch with Justin Foley (Brandon Flynn), despite what he did to her in the beginning of her school life. And more surprising is the fact that Hannah and Bryce Walker were friends for a little while, long before she bears witness to his monstrous side. But all this pales in comparison when we hear the nature of relationship which Zach Dempsey (Ross Butler) has with Hannah Baker, which prompts Clay to ask, “Could it have been me, if I was around that summer?”. In its pursuit of truth and connecting the dots, 13 Reasons Why Season 2 distorts the image of Hannah Baker that we have formed so far, and there lies one of the biggest issues with this new season. It makes you wonder if it was really necessary to reveal all the details about her life that the first season never addressed. If the idea was to give a deeper understanding of the events that led to the tragedy, then this just doesn’t make any sense. Her absence from the series leaves a big void, but Brian Yorkey, who adapted the series, finds a clever way to keep us thinking about Hannah through Clay’s eyes. However, the void is too big to fill, even when you see bits and pieces of Hannah’s life coming together, and it makes you restless after a point. To be fair, the show runners also highlight Hannah’s flaws - that she herself was a bully in a previous school and she ended up doing things which one would come as a big shock. This new perspective on who Hannah Baker really was slowly degenerates the impact of the story itself, but in the process, the series also turns more dramatic especially in terms of how it treats the characters coming to terms with their shame and guilt. This is what salvages the show after the first few episodes which struggle to rise up to the occasion. Two episodes in particular, one which focusses on Zach Dempsey’s version of what happened to Hannah, and student counsellor Kevin Porter’s (Derek Luke) confession are thrilling after the initial lull in the series. To see a grown man breaking down into tears, in a courtroom, when he comes to terms with his guilt is easily one of the defining moments of the series. Since the narrative is flipped from how Hannah sees the world around her to how the world saw and treated Hannah Baker, the second season expands into the nature of relationships between various students in the school. For instance, Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe) learns from her new friend Nina Jones (Samantha Logan) that she can’t let her past define who she is; Justin’s newfound respect for Jensen’s family makes him yearn for a better life; Dempsey learns to speak up; and Marcus confesses what a monster Bryce Walker truly is in front of the entire school, after he’s forced to choose between his friend and his future. And then, there’s Tyler Down’s (Devin Druid) meltdown from being a misfit into a teenager who’s utterly confused about how to vent out his frustration. As unnecessary as the first few episodes of Season 2 might seem, 13 Reasons Why manages to tie its loose ends to give a clear picture that high school is a brutal place, which takes a major toll on the lives of students. Neither their parents nor the teachers themselves are aware of what happens in the alleys at school, and it brings up another important question - Who’s responsible when something goes terribly wrong? The series also does a fine job in breaking down the overwhelming support that athletes get from the school authorities and how it leads to some of them turning into bullies, since there’s no one around to question their authority. As it reaches its season finale, 13 Reasons Why makes its intentions clear that it’s not going to restrict its environment to addressing mental health issues and bullying in schools. And in doing so, it leaves us stranded in the middle of the road because it’s not the same anymore. It was always about Hannah’s life and the people who failed her, but the more we delve into Season 2, it shifts the narrative to Clay and Bryce and his acolytes and turns the series into a reflection of the harrowing gun culture and sexual assaults in schools and colleges in the Us. There’s one particular scene in the series which is bound to make you squirm and it’s an image so disturbing that nothing will prepare you to deal with it long after watching the show. The second season might have built upon the foundation which its predecessor had laid down, but the new structure and themes that it addresses take the series into a different direction altogether. And towards the end, when you see that it isn’t going to end soon, it makes you seriously question - is it even worth expanding the series long after Clay Jensen tells the whole world how much he loves Hannah Baker? For me, that’s where the series reaches its finish line. But then, the temptation to continue milking a popular series is hard to resist, I suppose.

By the end of 13 Reasons Why season one, it's clear that Jessica Davis and Hannah Baker's stories are linked in a number of heartbreaking ways. Not only are they former friends, but they're also both victims of sexual assault at the hands of Bryce. Jessica's season one story ends with her making an important decision that will drive much of the story in season two: she tells her father that she was sexually assaulted - and in doing so, she also seems to make a decision that she's willing to tell the world what happened to her, if it means Bryce can no longer hurt any more young women.

The second season of 13 Reasons Why aired on Netflix on May 18, and already, people can't stop talking about the continuation of Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) tragic story. At the start of the sophomore season, viewers are immediately introduced to a new “mystery” that's instrumental in convicting Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) of rape — who is the girl on Tape 9? Question is, is it really a mystery at all? As fans of the show know, Hannah Baker left 13 tapes behind following her suicide that detailed the events leading to her untimely death.
